Incoming Bad Company update brings maps, bug fixes and trophies
Remember BattleField: Bad Company? Of course you do. Some of you are probably still playing it. If you aren't, then you soon might be because the game is due to get a shot in the arm before too long. After running a contest through which players could decide on which map pack DICE should start working on first, a post has gone up on the official blog to let us know that there will be other content coming when the map pack drops.
There's no indication on when that'll be, or if it'll cost us anything, but the accompanying patch will be free, at least. With this patch DICE are looking to fix several bugs, such as server lag and VOIP issues. There will also be various gameplay tweaks. Not only that, but three weapons, previously only obtainable through pre-ordering, playing the demo or signing up to the newsletter, will be made available to everyone for free. Check out the full list of fixes and tweaks at the official blog.
Finally (saving the best til last) the patch will add trophy support to the game. PS3 gamers are being spoilt by all these free, content patches. Not that we're complaining. We hope to find out when this'll hit soon.

Sadly there's no repair for mic problems or no clan match support. They would make this game pure gold. And then this would kick Cod4's ass.
Bran @ Sep 9th 2008 12:46PM
They do mention mic/voip problems. They said it was supposed to be largely addressed in Sony's 2.42 update, but that they will continue to look into it.
There's squad support, but not clan support.
This game just doesn't seem to get old for me. COD4 was good, but this does feel like a step up, especially in online strategy and tactics.
phinn @ Sep 14th 2008 7:47PM
I already does kick COD4's ass in my opinion, unless you must have clan support. I really never liked COD4, it always just felt like a camper fest, where I love the destructive environments and vehicles in this game. I play it all the time so I'm looking forward to this patch. I'm sure I'll continue to play this game for quite a while unless SOCOM blows it away.
Jonttu @ Sep 9th 2008 10:40AM
Awesome! :D

too little, too late. Game has been out too long with these issues and they should have been addressed really before launch. I am talking about VOIP and Lag issues, they have taken way too long to fix it, instead giving us a new gameplay option first. Already sold my copy and waiting for a good shooter like socom or Resistance 2
Popfrogs @ Sep 9th 2008 3:37PM
Yeah it pissed me off that it got Conquest mode before it got ANY bug fixes. The sound crackling, lag and nonexistent mic support made me quit playing. All my friends (who love to snipe) also stopped playing.
Too little too late I think.
Gaucho @ Sep 9th 2008 10:46AM
Am I the only one who liked CoD but not this game? i don't know what it was about it that i didnt like.
Wonderflex @ Sep 9th 2008 11:26AM
I know that I personally didn't like this game, but loved COD4. For me the game looked, and felt, last gen, with tacked on destruction. Sure, I can blow up just about anything...well...except for studs in walls, because as we all know, tanks can't take down buildings. On top of that, it felt a little too much like an arcade experience in comparison to Battlefield 2, which I love. So, fixes or no, I don't think I'll be playing.
Averna @ Sep 10th 2008 7:51AM
I didnt like this game because as an Australian you cant get into a match without a 1-3 second delay due to latency. Ill keep the game around for this patch but if the latency is still crap for 'the rest of the world' Im trading it for something else...

trophies!? count me in when the game price drop out =P
DeforMAKulizer @ Sep 9th 2008 11:08AM
Trophies?!! W00t!!!!
akalakabaka @ Sep 9th 2008 11:33AM
trophies will make me replay the game
ryan @ Sep 9th 2008 12:07PM
*notices the 3 comments above*
and to think a year ago people didn't want achievement-like incentive for replaying their PS3 games. but we all know we like our high gamer scores regardless of platform!
Nathanical @ Sep 9th 2008 12:19PM
i can only speak for myself here, but i couldnt give a damn about my gamer score, i just like that rewarding little 'ding' when u get a trophy! Its like bringing cookies into gaming!
DeforMAKulizer @ Sep 9th 2008 12:53PM
Same here Nathanical =D
That ringing jingle is HEAVENLY!!!! I also like to click that trophy icon in the xmb and see the games presented with their thumbnails hehe...
Popfrogs @ Sep 9th 2008 3:39PM
I'm with Nathanical although as soon as every game from day X forward gets support, people's attitudes might change.
I'm just in it for the dings.
ryan @ Sep 9th 2008 4:10PM
gamer score, dings, unlocks. it's all the same: useless extras that can be used for bragging rights! which were looked down upon before trophies!
Jonathan Nguyen @ Sep 9th 2008 2:50PM
Great news, I haven't booted this up in a couple weeks to play online, but the knife friendlies and quicker shooting after sprinting is AWESOME to hear. Even better are trophies. Good thing I haven't beaten the single player lol guess this will give me reason to. And I hope MP trophies are retroactive in which I would assume since stats are kept server side =)
James @ Sep 9th 2008 12:33PM
It's always the games that I don't own that get the trophy patches.
Where the hell is MGS4? I figured that would be one of the first to get a patch.
dongalos @ Sep 9th 2008 12:57PM
2.42 didn't fix mics, mines still freezing
i don't even plug mine in cuz i can't play with it ...in
koopi @ Sep 9th 2008 1:00PM
Finally ... now it'll be more satisfying playing this game!
Now we need MGS4 and GTA4! :)
KRIS_C_123 @ Sep 9th 2008 2:42PM
would you (anyone that wants to answer) say this game is a must buy game or a wait untill it goes down in price game?
im looking for new games because gta4 really doesnt cut it any more
kentuckyfried @ Sep 9th 2008 2:47PM
^ it's good as far as I can see from having played the demo. But it's not so awesome that you can't wait for a slight $10 price cut or whatnot. it's been out long enough, I'm surprised the price hasn't come down yet, maybe the cut is right around the corner when the patch comes is my guess.
"Not only that, but three weapons, previously only obtainable through pre-ordering, playing the demo or signing up to the newsletter, will be made available to everyone for free. Check out the full list of fixes and tweaks at the official blog."
That's so BS. Wasting a few hours of my life to play the demo to get that last "find all 5" item. Well, at least nobody else has to suffer. =D
bluedessert15 @ Sep 9th 2008 4:33PM
The only thing I didn't like about the game is the annoying ass vehicles (and the people that can't fight without a tank).
But I'll rebuy it for trophies hehe.
andy.taylor @ Sep 10th 2008 4:21AM
Thank you DICE!!! Now please just make the MP trophies retroactive! and please, please, please bring this patch out before BioShock, Fary Cry 2, CODWAW etc.
About time with the sprinting/shooting thing that was bloody annoying and out of 20+ hours in the game I've only ever spoken to one person!! So there are definate Mic issues!
Buj @ Sep 15th 2008 7:48AM
There are plenty of good games on ps3 to add trophies to like R&C, Assassins Creed, GTA4, COD4, Battfield Bad Company, and MGS4
