SOCOM: Confrontation public beta to be patched

We know that a number of you have been having problems with the SOCOM: Confrontation public beta. Well, there is finally some relieve in sight: it has been announced that a patch will be applied today at 5AM PDT/8AM EST/12PM GMT. There will also be server maintenance at that time for about 1.5 hours.
According to the SOCOM blog, the Public Beta 1.10 Patch won't fix everything, but it should "address a number of stability and late joining issues," lower the volume of the proximity chat by 50%, add support for European EULAs as well as dedicated servers for Europe and Australia. They are also looking into other issues, with a promise of "more updates to both the server and client in the future."

I love the beta despite its problems.

There you can see my review of the beta. I love it.
doss @ Sep 9th 2008 7:15AM
good to see they're fixing it up slightly before the qore influx
frankym @ Sep 9th 2008 8:58AM
Wow.....forgot about the Qore users
Mein Bratwurst @ Sep 9th 2008 7:19AM
If they would bump up the movement speed just a little and reduce the crazy recoil of guns it would be a really great game. I know the recoil discourages all the spray and pray people but it doesn't feel very socomish not being able to run and gun as effectively.
I really disliked the game at first but it is starting to grow on me. Hopefully /6 pulls through and makes this the best socom game ever. Better than S3 so far though. The game has some serious potential.
Brett from Atlanta @ Sep 9th 2008 9:44AM
I agree with you for the most part. I dont really mind the movement as much. You can put on light camo and go faster. I actually kinda like the risk reward factor between using light medium and heavy camo. You are 100 percent right about the guns though. The recoil is ridiculuous. They definitely need to adjust it. Not a lot, but enough where I can fire more than three shot without my gun going practically straight up in the air. All in all though, I am loving this game, it's been far too long since the last socom, and if sony supports this game like they do warhawk with lost of game modes and expansions, then it will be the best socom ever.
Kristopher gonzalez @ Sep 9th 2008 10:53AM
Recoil is fine, it's the bullet spread that is an "issue".
The speed is fine as well, you can adjust it by wearing light armor and less addons on your weapons.
recon @ Sep 9th 2008 3:50PM
socom wasn't really about run and gun, it was about, tactical movement, teamwork
Mein Bratwurst @ Sep 9th 2008 5:25PM

Say what? My post is further down.
Oh, and yes. If this is a proper beta, I want a proper feedback system.
Phil @ Sep 9th 2008 7:37AM
I got the key the other day...Where do I download the beta? (Could not find it on PSN.)
sean @ Sep 9th 2008 7:50AM
if its a code you probably have to go to account management and click where it says enter PSN card or promotion code. something along those lines.
w00zzy @ Sep 9th 2008 3:33PM
Don't go into the store. Just above it on the XMB use Acct. Mangmt. Enter the code add follow the directions for redeming prmo. code or card.
Jajacey @ Sep 11th 2008 7:09PM
Do you have an extra code? I stil haven't received mine and I'm dying to play it. Thanks if you could give me a reply if you can or not.
alphaVI @ Sep 9th 2008 7:41AM
Oh, does this fix the 45 minute loading screens, constant slowdown and weird pop-up?
This REALLY is a BETA.. I'm disappointed.
Kicks @ Sep 9th 2008 8:24AM
Were you really expecting a 100% polished game out of a beta? Companies run beta tests to get an influx of user experiences and bug reports. I'm glad they're doing this now before the game hits the shelves and then they get negative press and reviews because of it. I've never played a bugless beta....
Rob Bourne @ Sep 9th 2008 8:59AM
@Kicks
This is a 100% game. The real beta testing was done in closed conditions - this is another glorified demo (like the CoD4 'beta'), proven so by the absence of a feedback/bug reporting system.
I look forward to this patch, I haven't played the game properly as the framerate issues and loading times just drove me insane.
DarkSide_Killer @ Sep 9th 2008 12:08PM
Bob, it is not a 100% game how you said. It still be a beta. Maybe an alpha was the close beta, but you can't know how it works with million of people playing it. It is not the same play the a close beta like you said with maybe 100, 1000, 2000 players? like if you play it with thousand of players at the same time (20,000, 30,000, etc). In programming you can't expect that things works 100% without problem. Allways you are going to find troubles because you CAN'T test all the variables. It is impossible. I am a programmer and I know what I say.
On the other hand, they need to fix how claymores and C4 works. I like the manner like Claymores works in COD4. I like SOCOM very much but I would like to put mines like Claymores and when someone walk near of it it explode. I don't want to be checking to press a bottom. Other thing, it is very difficult to snipe.
Rob Bourne @ Sep 9th 2008 2:02PM
Don't worry, I won't argue with your superior knowledge, being a computer programmer and all (wow!).
Fact is, this game is coming out next Month. In it's current state (I haven't tried the patch yet as I'm not home), it's a sloppy mess. They have a lot of work to do if they want to get this to an A-grade level.
Look at CoD4. A similar stunt pulled with the 'beta' opened up a Month before launch, only they got it right and released a near-perfect teaser which will no doubt have helped the sales. The same goes for Halo 3 with it's Crackdown deal.
I am not a programmer, but I still know what I'm talking about. SOCOM is currently terrible and needs a lot of work if /6 wants the full release to be a success.

tony @ Sep 9th 2008 8:52AM
they need to fix the sound. when i was playing i could only hear people talking and music and no sounds of guns, explosions, or anything. its a lil hard not to die when you cant hear guns firing to even know that someone is around.
sub-net @ Sep 9th 2008 3:47PM
nah, thats a problem with your install buddy, sound works just fine
Phizzy @ Sep 9th 2008 9:15AM
I know it's beta, but I've been completely unable to get into any games. Seems more like an alpha to me, betas should be completely playable but a bit buggy.
Christian @ Sep 9th 2008 11:44AM
Sure they do lack a way to report bugs manually, but people have to realize that a lot of bugs they will be able to find automatically through this type of large scale testing. I am sure they are running a ton of data gathering and analysis on their server and whenever you experience slowdown for instance they get a message in their log file.
JAH75157 @ Sep 9th 2008 11:50AM
I've had no problem getting into games other than long loading times. why would they decrease the proximity chat volume? i have a hard enough time hearing it as it is. as far as i'm concerned i'd be happy if the made the reload time a bit slower, a party system, and finally made it so you don't have to find a new room every 2 rounds cause it freezes your ps3 if you stay in the room for 3.
(IRE)Wolfman @ Sep 9th 2008 12:16PM
You have been invited to take part in the limited multiplayer demo of SOCOM: Confrontation on PLAYSTATION®3.

I think the the game needs alot of fixes and I don't think it will be ready for its current release date. I guess time will tell
Ab @ Sep 9th 2008 3:24PM
Does anyone have an extra beta code they can provide me with? I don't want to wait any longer for the Qore download!
me @ Sep 9th 2008 4:48PM
yo my screen goes black after i click agree on socom server agreement it loads for 2 seconds then black screen freezing my ps3 anybody have a clue? part of mass in servers?
rdetrhfghj @ Sep 13th 2008 3:01PM
Sound issues. Starts out fine, but then i lose all sounds. Music and chat still on, but nothing else. Scrap music and Chat and leave on the important sounds.
