ABBA coming to PS3 via SingStar
So Guitar Hero gets Aerosmith, Rock Band gets The Who and SingStar gets ... ABBA? Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has just revealed SingStar ABBA. We don't know if we have to write any more to generate comments out of you.
"We are thrilled to be collaborating with ABBA to bring their tracks to SingStar this Christmas," said David Reeves, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "The popularity of this iconic band continues year after year, and we know SingStar fans will be delighted to add this selection of classics tracks to their SingStar collection."
Hopefully, fans that currently own SingStar will also be able to simply download tracks off the SingStore, instead of having to buy this retail disc. Y'know ... the SingStore? Sony, will you ever update it again?
[Thanks, Kspraydad!]

Makoto99 @ Sep 10th 2008 12:04PM
This just in - to counter this bold and daring move, 2009 will see the release of Guitar Hero Legends: Aldo Nova.

Who the hell is Abba?
Jerses @ Sep 10th 2008 12:11PM
how many gamers out there loves abba? Abba is to old for gamers.. This game is doomed.
Why not make singstar "regetton"... or "rancheras" those will be a hit in mexico.
Livi70590 @ Sep 10th 2008 12:16PM
There's nowt wrong with Abba.
farfisa @ Sep 10th 2008 12:56PM
How many gamers out there love Singstar?
Probably about the same number.
pros @ Sep 10th 2008 2:19PM
whats regetton?
Abba is still a none band, regetton was a fad 2 years ago only in us.
DiggerDaniels @ Sep 10th 2008 4:15PM
Clearly you know nothing about the gaming market.
1) these kind of titles are what drives PS3 into the hands of mainstream consumers, not desperate 360-style fire sales.
2) Abba is HUGE in Europe (the biggest gaming market).

You know what i am starting to get really peed off with Singstar, I thought the whole reason for the Singstore was so you could download songs to you collection instead of having to buy more disc's like the old PS2,
Why is it that they are starting to bring out so many versions.
I got Singstar when it first come out and loved the idea of Singstore, but it seems they only use Singstore to put out the Cr@p songs, and save all there good songs for new releases. I.E Singstar Vol.2 - Singstar Vol.3 - Singstar Disney - Singstar Abba
I would love to see these come to the singstore, but in the back of my hurt and bruised mind i just know that they wont.
WHY NOT - they would probably sell a whole lot more.
Or is it just me and the fact that this bothers me!!
Daniel @ Sep 10th 2008 1:05PM
My understanding is that there are two different ways of licensing for d/l and physical content. It may be easier to get certain songs on a physical disc release than it is to have them in the Singstore. But, I definitely agree that there needs to be better content... and less European pop groups would be a great start.
digiboi @ Sep 10th 2008 3:51PM
Can you say present?
Average age of PS3 owner: 35+
That said - hit the guys up to buy presents for their Mama Mia loving wife.
Smart move fiscally - not exactly my cup of tea.
elephant_stone @ Sep 10th 2008 12:21PM
urrrrgghh
I just threw up over my keyboard!!
I gather these disks are aimed at the elderly or little girls - who dont know what the internet is?

What’re you talking about Andrew? New songs are coming in every two weeks afaik, there was an update just last week… http://threespeech.com/blog/2008/09/singstore-update-for-september-4th/
Andrew Yoon @ Sep 10th 2008 12:26PM
Not here in the US, unfortunately. It's been many weeks without any word from Sony as to when the Store will update.
Ayrkain @ Sep 10th 2008 12:45PM
Not true. They did delay the update for the US, but it also says so when you log into the Online portion. Checked it last night.
DiggerDaniels @ Sep 10th 2008 4:10PM
I see Andrew Yoon got caught with his PS3-hating lies again...
Eggy @ Sep 11th 2008 4:59AM
Ohh FFS leave the guy alone. If you think you can do better, apply for the job. You'll learn very soon how hard it is to keep up with all the rumor and speculation.
francisco @ Sep 10th 2008 12:26PM
wtf is abba? lol
kevin @ Sep 10th 2008 2:31PM
i have no idea. LOL
Deaddy @ Sep 10th 2008 12:47PM
Ah, the SingStore is crap, especially in North America. I'll pick this up for my mom, she just saw Mama Mia. May have to import it, I guess. I'm gonna have to buy those new PS2 discs to get any good SingStar content, what's the point of launching the PS3 version in NA if they aren't going to support it at all?
Mana Knight @ Sep 10th 2008 12:48PM
This must have a retail presence because several people out there don't have internet connection (or their PS3 connected online, some would be surprised how many don't have their PS3 connected online) and there are some who lack credit/debit cards for PSN purchases (PSN Cards are still limited). I could careless, since I kind of rather have it on disc anyway.
TimBob @ Sep 10th 2008 12:59PM
If any of you tell my wife about this I will track you down and inflict some kind of pain. ;)
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Sep 10th 2008 1:07PM
Someone needs to close their italics tag.
Brinstar @ Sep 10th 2008 1:13PM
ABBA is huge in Europe and the big wide world outside of the United States, and SingStare is big amongst many non-gamers. I for one am glad that Sony are continuing to target non-traditional gamer demographics. Diversity of product is a good thing.
It would be nice if Sony would support the North American SingStore as much as they do Europe's, however. :-(
Zyrodra @ Sep 10th 2008 1:31PM
Erm...didn't they confirm a Queen Singstar a while ago? So to say Abba is Singstar's answer to Rock Band's or Guitar Hero's is not right =P
Dr. Strangepork @ Sep 10th 2008 2:11PM
For me access to this type of music through the store is essential. It is popular (maybe not to you, but to others for sure) and it creates a party atmosphere when used.
More importantly I think I could get my wife to join in and take lead on some ABBA songs.
Hoping for a US store release. But not hopeful.
Let's hope Sony gets their act together in the way it uses its store for US players. Although I feel like it has been this sad since launch.
RavenPaul @ Sep 10th 2008 2:34PM
SingStar ABBA is really going to make me buy gaystar. How about some SinStar Rammstein!
Deaddy @ Sep 10th 2008 2:58PM
You think singing is gay? You sound sexually confused.
Just @ Sep 10th 2008 3:54PM
When you start SingStar, the video shows you guys downloading songs and then singing them. Why can't they just release song to the SingStore?
If you check thier FaceBook page, they just asked people from NA to use the Sony Forum and not the FaceBook page. No one from Sony ever reads the forum, so I just guess that no one cares about SingStar in NA!
Windmill @ Sep 10th 2008 5:51PM
Hey I must say *I* got very exctied about the idea!
Perhaps you Yankees aren't down with it, but in Europe and in Australasia, ABBA was pretty huge! Even though I'm 17 I'm still a fan, and my mum was a HUGE fan! I am TOTALLY buying this for her for sure!
Matt @ Sep 10th 2008 6:18PM
I'll be the first to admit that many of us gaymers will be thrilled about this! They know their audience and I know about 10 gaymers who play singstar and 0 straight guys who do...all i'm saying is Sony knows who they're selling this stuff to...AND THANK GOD BECAUSE I'M EXCIIIIITED!
Matt @ Sep 10th 2008 6:18PM
Not that ABBA is only appreciated by gay men...I know plenty of people who love ABBA!! and come on people...MAMMA MIA is a huge smash broadway musical (just hit 16th longest running of all time) and the movie just came out...sony will sell these babies!
