Rock Band guitar compatibility & music export patch now live

Better late than never, right? It's been nine months since we first talked about the guitar compatibility patch that allows Guitar Hero III controllers to be used with Rock Band. That same patch was blocked by Activision and, we assumed, would never see the light of day again. Now, however, it's finally available. We've tried and tested it and it does exactly what we assumed it would -- allow Rock Band players to play 4-player without having to pay an extortionate amount of money for a second guitar.

Not only that, but the patch also includes the music export feature so that all (well, most) of your songs from Rock Band will be playable in the upcoming sequel. It costs $5 to export your tunes and takes up 1.52GB of HDD space. Well worth it, in our opinion.

Wow that's awesome. I've been up all night so I'll have to try it out tomorrow. that means my room mate and I can finally play again (my drums are broken) even if it does mean I'll have to use the craptastic GH3 Guitar and my room mate will just have to settle with the abused Rock Band Guitar with a broken Whammy bar. He likes to play on medium only so... it shouldn't affect him too much.

They extended the warranty on all of the Rock Band peripherals through October 1st. You can get that strat replaced for free.

Shame the patch isn't out in UK/EU. I bought Rock Band Solus today to use with my Les Paul and as there is no patch I have a game I can't play. :(

I thought RB was out in the UK tomorrow? I was planning on getting RB solus to use with my GH3 guitar but not until I see confirmation of the patch hitting Europe.Can someone post if/when the patch becomes available in the UK? Ta.

Both the compatibility and the release in Europe. Why even bother? Oh.. because Activision is about to take Rock Band by storm in every region except North America and they're trying to pander to the masses. Too late dickwads.

Shame on Activision blocking this for so long.

Bottom line - RB gets GH people to migrate to RB but not the other way around..very bad business thinking by Activision

It really sucks that we can't delete individual songs with the export option, like 360 users can. I REALLY don't want to play "I'm So Sick" or "Dead On Arrival" in online play.

Voice your opinion in this thread to add a "Delete Song" option.

Are Rock Band controllers compatible with Guitar Hero III and Aerosmith now as well? I own rock band and wouldn't mind just picking up the game for Guitar Hero, but I'm not buying the instrument...

I have refused to buy Rockband since its release (almost a year now...) because of this stupid incompatibility. Maybe now I will actually buy it.

I wish they'd patch GHIII now as well.

ps 3 fanboy this patch also fixes missed notes in some dlc songs and lowers the gold star cutoffs on songs too!!!!!!!!!! those are two pretty important things to mentions as well.

If there is no patch for rock band in europe then rock band 1 will be an even bigger flop here then i think it will be. i mean if you already own gh3 and have had it for a year or less why would you want +4 guitars in your living room? come on give us the patch!!!!!
