Zone mode edited in final version of WipEout HD
If you read our preview, we said that WipEout HD's Zone mode was one of the most intense experiences we had the pleasure of racing through. Unfortunately, it appears the mode has been seriously toned down, most likely to pass epilepsy tests. In our preview, we said that the floor textures would respond to the music playing in the background, changing color suddenly when appropriate. The reactive floor textures have been removed for the final version of the game, and now Zone mode looks much more sterile. In fact, it reminds us a lot of the Zone mode found in the PSP games, WipEout Pure and Pulse. Granted, it still looks very nice. However, it saddens us to know that we may never have a chance to play a mode notorious for its sensory overload.

pat1202003 @ Sep 11th 2008 6:17PM

But seriously it still sounds cool even though its been toned down.
DeforMAKulizer @ Sep 11th 2008 6:23PM
I hope they have an option to give you epilepsy hehe... Well, i dont mind... Still one of the best PSN games to come... =D
Averna @ Sep 12th 2008 3:58AM
Remove the word 'PSN' and I agree :P

When will Sony be releasing the Uncut Epilepsy Edition? That's the one I want to buy.
duckhunt8 @ Sep 11th 2008 6:53PM
They should sell 2 versions:
Epileptic Edition
Normal Edition

I wish there was an option to turn the "crazy" version on, instead of removing it altogether. Seems like that would make everyone happy.
leiwei @ Sep 11th 2008 7:25PM
They probably don't want the probability of an evil brother giving their younger sibling a seizure by turning the "Crazy version" on. ;-)
leiwei @ Sep 11th 2008 7:26PM
^ meh what am I thinking. possibility.
CM @ Sep 11th 2008 7:29PM
Older brothers _do_ suck. :)
(sigh)
Ash @ Sep 11th 2008 8:05PM
could they just put that in the options or something to switch it on and off?
Whubbsie @ Sep 11th 2008 8:52PM
can you die from an epileptic seizure... cos if you can't I don't see any reason to cut it out. :p
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Sep 12th 2008 1:52AM
Not sure about dying... you could bite through your tongue though. Which I'm guessing isn't pleasant.
Eggy @ Sep 12th 2008 5:02AM
Depends on the type of seizure. Continuous seizures can be life threatening. Look up statis epilepticus.
sibbor @ Sep 12th 2008 12:01PM
For fuck sake, can't they just learn how to use options for nice features like this!? Epilepsy mode: ON
seedaripper1973 @ Sep 12th 2008 10:15AM
GAH! if it isn't nutters, murdering innocent people in the name of videogames and getting em banned..now we have epileptics getting games toned down due to 'their' condition..now im not trying to sound bad ass, but obviosly they should know if certain games are going to cause such a reaction..and if not 'PUT IT ON THE BOX' clearly.(besides there are drugs available to 'quench' the condition).
I dont suffer from epilipsy (obviously) so, i cant see why i should have to pander to a small percentage of the population who do...
where is this going to end??? people with heart conditions complaining about certain scenes in horror games and getting them cut??
(in all firness theres plenty of movies out there that have 'strobe' effects, but do they get cut? do they eckkers like
be918 @ Sep 12th 2008 9:35AM
How exactly does an epilepsy test work? Is it what I think it is?
deafwing @ Sep 12th 2008 1:00PM
SCEE Should really give users the option to turn that on / off , and set it to off by default ... O_O
