SergeantCorbett @ Sep 12th 2008 5:07PM
w00t! lookin good
VeganTnT @ Sep 12th 2008 5:39PM
are we looking at the same list here?
This looks like a very expensive list in terms of licensing but I don't see many songs of quality.
La Bamba, Eye of the tiger, on the road, hotel california, and livin on a prayer??
I don't want to play that! It's like a bad kareoke night with a fake band
I was tired of Freak on a Leash, misery business, and dammit about a month after it came out!
The reason I liked having two games like this was because I could play casual/hard songs on rock band but I can put in guitar hero and play things like DragonForce or tenacious D
HernanGL @ Sep 12th 2008 7:07PM
yeah, but I think is good to have Tool, Dream Theater, Ozzy, Hendrix, Interpol, Satriani etc. on the track list, things RockBand doesn't have... (oops DT is on RB2 XP)
Roto13 @ Sep 13th 2008 10:13AM
"It's like a bad kareoke night with a fake band"
Which isn't the entire premise of Guitar Hero?
nakedatthecomp @ Sep 12th 2008 5:21PM
half of these are already on Rock Band, and the other have suck!
nakedatthecomp @ Sep 12th 2008 5:21PM
...err...*half
shortyvs @ Sep 12th 2008 5:39PM
Half? Try 13.
nakedatthecomp @ Sep 12th 2008 5:58PM
forgive me for just skimming the list, some of us are busy!
shortyvs @ Sep 12th 2008 6:44PM
lol. and some of us procrastinate by commenting on articles!
lorddshadow @ Sep 12th 2008 5:21PM
rock band has way better gameplay but guitar hero has a way better track list. and i guess that's what counts in a music game. sweet home alabama live? sweetness!
Ethan @ Sep 12th 2008 6:56PM
are you serious guitar hero has better gameplay.
90 % of the songs on rockband were easy as hell on guitar and drums (exept run to the hills) even on expert. Plus hammer on and pull offs sucked in RB
macserv @ Sep 13th 2008 10:04PM
I don't think it matters which game HAD better gameplay. What matters is the next version, and GH clearly has the innovative edge this time. The drum set has three pads and two cymbals (5 discrete inputs) while Rock Band still has 4 pads. The GH:WT guitar adds touch-sensitive areas to do pitch bending and other effects. No such changes to the RB guitar.
Based on that, and GH:WT's new gameplay elements (battle of the bands, etc), I was pretty much sold on GH over RB this time around. The song list was the only potential sticking point, and now that's clearly no concern. Add-ons will only make the picture prettier.
I fully expect the fine developers at Harmonix to leapfrog Guitar Hero with new innovations sometime in the not-too-distant future. For now, though, Activision wins.
AmericanNinja @ Sep 12th 2008 5:32PM
Rock Band 2 FTW!
xtole @ Sep 15th 2008 8:03AM
dude rb2 blows
shortyvs @ Sep 12th 2008 5:37PM
...I'm sorta torn now. I compared both games' lists and there are exactly 31 songs on both of them that I'm looking forward to playing. I think the deal breaker is that I've already established a library of Rock Band DLC, coupled with that fact that the Rock Band 1 on-disc songs can be transferred. That will more than double the songs available on Rock Band 2. Oh yea, and Rock Band 2 will have Foo Fighters' "The Colour and the Shape". In fact, none of the other reasons matter expect for the latter.
duckhunt8 @ Sep 12th 2008 6:53PM
If you have the extra cash then just buy both games. The peripherals are going to be cross compatible (that even includes Rock Revolution).
Averna @ Sep 12th 2008 8:36PM
Yeah grab one bundle and the other on disc... just deciding which bundle I want to get.
The GHWT bundle actually looks a bit better, imo.
Luan @ Sep 12th 2008 6:46PM
I thought +44 was gonna be in that... at least blink still is
shalter24 @ Sep 12th 2008 5:44PM
This list looks better than Rock Band 2 to me...
Now if only they could get as much DLC and price it properly...
Fane @ Sep 12th 2008 6:58PM
To all:
Before we get too wound up debating which group of songs is better (I'm leaning toward GHWT), we should realize that many of these songs will likely be available as Rock Band DLC and (possibly) vice versa.
Also both lists are excellent, especially compared to the 30 or so songs in early GH.
Kornkid @ Sep 12th 2008 5:45PM
Freak on a Leash! Hellz yea!! I want this game so much more now :P
TXCrowe @ Sep 12th 2008 6:10PM
Thats just sad.
Really, Korn?
I have about 500 albums you should borrow to show you the error of your ways.
Kornkid @ Sep 12th 2008 8:20PM
lol, no need. I was just playing around. If i do actually purchase this game, it will not be because a single song by Korn is on the game.. in fact, though my name may be Kornkid.. I honestly don't find myself listening to them that much anymore. I listen to a variety of music now, everything from Pink Floyd to Children of Bodom. Honestly.. if it's a form of rock/blues/metal, I'll listen to it. =D plus I'm more excited to see artists like Joe Satriani and Jimi Hendrix on this game.
HHH @ Sep 12th 2008 5:59PM
Real gamers don't worry about song list. They worry about how the charts are made, how it plays, and how it fits with the song.
TXCrowe @ Sep 12th 2008 6:13PM
Thats SO bs.
Really songs dont matter??
Lets get you some hellaciously charted Britney Spears, Coldplay, and Jonas Brothers, and see how much FUN that is.
These games are ALL about the songs offered.
Richie_Tozier @ Sep 12th 2008 6:28PM
Well, that settles it, i'm buying Rock Band 2. Its got way more Metal. The only way i'l end up buying this is if they let people use the song maker to make songs that aren't in the game like Painkiller or Souls of Black.
Max @ Sep 12th 2008 6:39PM
WHAT!? NO RADIOHEAD! i'm getting rock band then.
kevin @ Sep 13th 2008 3:02PM
Motörhead - "Overkill"
idiot.
bulletwolf @ Sep 17th 2008 11:35AM
kevin, RADIOhead, not MOTORhead. lrn2read.
aeturnus77 @ Sep 12th 2008 6:51PM
i was almost sorta looking forward to GH:WT altho i will buy RB2 as soon as it's released... but after seeing this set list.. a few songs i'd like to play, 1 song i'd love to play(pull me under).. and then a bunch of songs i wish i wouldnt have to hear again in my life. RB2 has some tracks like that, too, for sure.. maybe i'm biased as obviously i'd want to play some good technical, complicated music in these games and i'm not looking to just play some fairly uninteresting songs... that said, I don't know if i'll be spending the money on this disc, there just is not enough substance there. RB1's set list is better than this, and I spent a the majority of this year playing that 20 hours a day it seemed.
... however, if they added Falconer or Sonata Arctica or Opeth or Sentenced or the like(or some other RATT or some Dokken and non-Final Countdown/Carrie Europe songs) for DLC, i may be tempted to pick the game up.. ;]
... and now i have One Way or Another running through my head >.
HernanGL @ Sep 12th 2008 7:08PM
Opeth!!!!
Sonata Arctica!!!!!
rufio311 @ Sep 14th 2008 12:47AM
311 BABY!!!!!!! YES FINALLY!!!
Alun @ Sep 12th 2008 7:54PM
anyone know if guitar hero world tour will have ps3 trophy support like rock band 2?
nillaP @ Sep 12th 2008 7:50PM
BYOB sweet!!!
kloz @ Sep 13th 2008 3:18PM
I think this game is going to be great with all those songs i like, bu it will still be kind of weird singing in spanish to some songs but overall i think this game will be a greatest hits( exept we will never see it to be lowered to 30$ lol)
Waqman @ Sep 12th 2008 8:20PM
You can tell they are holding back on alot of stuff. No "All Along the Watchtower" from Hendrix? Oh wait there's always DLC. Anyways I'm still gettin Rock Band 2. Because there is a slim chance that the Clash' London Calling will be available as DLC in the near future.
PSN ID -- TheUnforgivenII @ Sep 12th 2008 8:27PM
If you want to play a real HARD Drums game, go to the arcades and play with Drummania.
ballernaz @ Sep 12th 2008 8:28PM
what happened to low by flo rida (travis barker remix)? i was seriously looking forward to that
oh well, guess theres still santeria, and hotel california, and u can just buy the RB game and it works with the guitar hero instruments
puffpappan @ Sep 12th 2008 8:51PM
Did anybody but me notice that there are actually a few spanish lyrics in there, and one swedish!!! How the #%% did Kent get stuck in there?!?!
Not that I mind, it's practically my favourite band but seriously, how big an audience is Sweden? Or maybe it's just a trick to learn the rest of the world some of our beautiful language? ;)
Christ-ian @ Sep 12th 2008 10:32PM
You're crazy if you think this is a better setlist than RB2. GH3 was a better list, I'll give them that, but besides a select few fantastic tracks (maybe 1/4 of them), it's just OK. Rock Band 2 is almost fantastic across the board. Plus, you know.... GH's DLC sucks balls.
Howard @ Sep 12th 2008 11:59PM
Mars Volta FTW
Patrick @ Sep 13th 2008 12:10AM
I've always thought that Rock Band should have had some 311 DLC. Drumming along with Chad Sexton...awesome.
All in all, this looks like an awesome setlist. Far better than GH3.
chr0nicblazer @ Sep 13th 2008 12:31AM
i just preordered the ghwt bundle.. but several of these songs are on rock band 2's track list. personally i think this game's songs will appeal to me a little more. but honestly these track lists are all about oppinion.
Munky @ Sep 13th 2008 3:17AM
Wow. I could care less about most of the songs here, but some are worth price of admission. I mean Eagles, Tool, Satch, and Hendrix. Also one of my all time favorites is on here: The Joker. Band on the Run is a fun addition too. EVH slips in on Beat It which is cool. BTW, where the heck is VH? They've never been ones to turn down a royalty check. Lets see some Hot for Teacher!
Jvoles @ Sep 13th 2008 8:11AM
I wasn't sure which game to buy, but seeing Tool on this list just confirmed my purchase.
Superbean @ Sep 13th 2008 9:40AM
Im picking up both anyways but man have i been waiting 4 a good while 4 da setlist so i can go listen 2 them 4 practice. theres alot of good songs here n since instruments are gona be compatible then i culd buy jst one bundle. GHWT bundle looks way better thn RB2.
Roto13 @ Sep 13th 2008 10:15AM
And here I thought cross-compatible instruments would cut down on the fanboy whining.
I hate the internet.
elephant_stone @ Sep 13th 2008 10:33AM
as a Rock Band and Guitar Hero virgin can someone advise me which to get? Im leaning towards Guitar Hero as I like the look of the above set list, its the original, and it has a studio in the new version!
Plus I live in the UK and Rock Band 2 will be out in like, 2012 or something stupid.
nakedatthecomp @ Sep 13th 2008 1:12PM
that's a tough one... Rock Band seems to have more songs (all but three from Rock Band 1 can be played in #2) and much better DLC support, whereas Guitar Hero, you have to switch between discs to play all the songs, and have much less frequent DLC... however, RB also seems to be really lagging in UK, what with just being released and all, so it's a tough decision. See if you can find a definite release date for RB2 in the UK and go from there - my personal opinion is that RB1 and RB2 plus all the DLC every week are much better than any Guitar Hero. Try to find that release date and go from there... good luck!
