You'd be foolish not to buy WipEout HD at $20

One last piece of information has snuck out of the recent WipEout HD event in San Francisco. It's a small detail, but one that make or break your decision to buy the game: the price. You can stop holding your breath now, the price is almost ridiculously low. $20 is nothing when you consider what you'll be getting in the game. Don't forget, Europeans, you also get it nice and cheap too. For only $20/£11.99 you'd be mad not to pick it up once it arrives -- whenever that might be (judging from the amount of press the game is getting, we're betting it's soon!).

Yeah, that's a screenshot from the game. It's zone mode where the color of the level changes as you progress through the zones (kinda like laps).

I have wipeout pulse for the psp and i just can't get into it at all. But the PS3 version looks cool and I dont have a ps3 racer except maybe GTA4 if that counts lol! I may have to pick it up if online is great. Does it have trophies? lol had to ask because I know its going to get asked like 300 times.

The Wipeout games play _nothing_ like Mario Kart. There are weapons, yes, but they are a far smaller part of the gameplay.

If you're going to compare it to one Nintendo game, why not 2?

I'd call it a cross between Mario Kart and F-Zero. Mario Kart for the items and firing, F-Zero for the insane speeds and futuristic feel.

My only problem with the Wipeout series has been it feels too clean. Too generic sci-fi. I might pick this up still, I've got a friend who loves it, but I do prefer a bit more flavor in my games (such as pilots, personalities, etc.)

I love mario kart, but this game plays very differently (from my experience on the PSP). It's much more like a traditional racer where skill will get you ahead a lot faster. It doesn't have nearly the cartoon physics of mario kart, and definitely has a lot faster feel to it.

That being said, I don't think it would be bad if it were mario kart like, it's just not.

This is why many people buyed the ps3...because of the graphics and not the games :S im sorry if i hurt anyone but the psp game is not that great. Its just a glorified snes f-zero game.... It looks cool and all but the tracks are nowhere originals. For a psp enhaced game ( the psp game is $20 dlls now or maybe less ) this is pretty expensive. But i know many of you will buy it so... good luck!

The Wipeout series was out before F-Zero wasn't it? And it is not an enhanced PSP, it is the PS# version of the franchise, from PS1, PS2, PSP and now PS3.

Shut up. F-Zero is trash compared to Wipeout. This is Wipeout HD for the PS3 and it will have updated content with new tracks in the future. Take your hating elsewhere. There is a difference between a port (like the Wii always gets - crappy ports) and the same version completely redone in HD with 1080p visuals, high resolution textures, higher poly count models and a buttery smooth 60 FPS.

We know what ports are - we see it all the time on the Wii. This is no simple port as you would imply.

FYI - Nobody "buyed" a PS3. We bought it.

i have you all beat i have the original Wip3out from on the ps1 it had a reall weird long name and it was hard to play but it was a lot of fun

The sooner this game's out the better. I have all the Wipeout games released to date (&my fave is still Wip3out SE). It'll be cool if it has an online tournament mode with team races. Add a bit of co op to make things more interesting. I'll be piloting the EGX. This is going to be my game of the year! And for 12 quid! Game on!

Man I want to buy this so badly. The devs are so nice. This game is easily worth $40 yet the devs charge just $20. Dammit sony, hurry it with the PSN cards so a lot of other people (including me) can buy this game easily.

Something else that'd be sweet (and probably missing from the final build) would be full race customisation- eg.*number of laps*Toggle weapons (for example only mines and cannon)I'm thinking this would be cool because there's no eliminator mode, so instead you could race say 10-15 laps, then there's a better chance of getting some kills! I hope there'll be a forum on the Wipeout web site where devs can get some feedback from the fans (including polls on circuits to download from earlier games). Oh yeah and a Wipeout HD theme please guys.
