Burnout Paradise Bikes, in motion
Download to PSP
In an era where game developers and publishers are nickle-and-diming consumers with every single piece of DLC, it's refreshing to see Criterion and EA offer so much game-changing content in Burnout Paradise for free. This trailer finally showcases the bikes in motion, as well as the customizable day/night cycle. The trailer ends with a very honest plea for you to buy the game if you haven't -- especially with even more content coming down the pipeline. Us? We're waiting for the budget PSN downloadable re-release of the game, due some time this fall.
Expect the Bikes patch this week.

I so can't wait for this update
Andrew @ Sep 15th 2008 2:58PM
I cannot wait any longer. That trailer makes the bike package look better than I ever imagined. Criterion is the BEST.
Gaucho @ Sep 15th 2008 2:59PM
What happens when you crash? I i thought i read that because they have to keep an E rating, the bike doesn't dent and the riders don't fall off and go flying all over the place.
s0ya @ Sep 15th 2008 3:20PM
When you crash the riders disappear and the bikes crash like the cars do, in slow-motion awesome view!
Barry Morrison @ Sep 15th 2008 3:01PM
Same here. This update looks very cool...
John S @ Sep 15th 2008 3:02PM
I also plan on buying the game when it's on the store.
Gonzo @ Sep 15th 2008 3:16PM
The free DLC makes the advertising in the game very palatable.
I thought the PSN release was going to be $30. That's not very "budget" for a PSN download. You can get the disc used for cheaper; even at Gameslop, and that's saying something. I don't see why anyone would download this for $30.
Packfan @ Sep 15th 2008 3:18PM
If you want a used disk, then buy the used disk and give Gamestop even more of a reason to charge you up the a** for used games.
$30 is the retail for the title. Why would they reduce the price for the digital version? You'd be surprised HOW many people are doing to DL the game.
Gonzo @ Sep 15th 2008 3:55PM
No actually I'm not surprised at all.
Apparently there's alot of suckers who buy games. Look at how well Gameslop's stock has done in the past few years. Look at how many people buy a game system that's notorious for melting itself; some of them even buy two so they have something to play with while the original is being repaired. THAT amazes me.
They should reduce the price for the digital version because:
- you're not getting a disc which is easy to lend to a friend or sell if you decide you don't like the game.
-The entire game is installed on your HD
-It's no cost to them at this point. They've already made the money they expected to make on the game. Further sales are gravy. With no packaging costs, the only thing they have to pay for is maintaining server space.
Don't get me wrong, the game is well worth (especially with all the free DLC) it's original launch price, but only suckers are going to pay the retail price for a download when they can get the disc for cheaper.
I don't want to condone shopping at gameslop (because waiting on line there alone is more painfull than being charged up the a** when you're done waiting on line) but there still are a few other places to buy used games that discount used games a little more than $1.50.
Mooey @ Sep 15th 2008 4:34PM
@Gonzo:
You say there is no cost to them at this point.
Updating a game with new features and content costs tons time, development, and money. Have you designed a video game? Do you think that they can deliver something over night. Criterion has given us one of the best racing games of all time that renews and refreshes itself every couple of months. I don't see any bike models in this game so that means that they've taken the bikes from scratched and implemented them into the game. Oh yeah, let's not forget about sound effects for those bikes and throw in weather and day/night cycles... That stuff takes time to develop.
As for the "discs are expensive to make" argument: It costs probably a dollar for EA to publish. I don't see your point.
creyes4182 @ Sep 16th 2008 1:28AM
@Gonzo Dude its an awesome game and its worth 60 without the motorcycles. Stop being mr. negativity and buy the damn game. It cost them time and money to make the update.. not only that but its free an update like that would normally cost 10-15$ easy. So stop bitching.. don't buy it used and support these these guys. Buy it new at retail for 30$ and sleep easy knowing that the right people got paid for their effort.
Gonzo @ Sep 16th 2008 2:29PM
What makes you think I don't have the game? I have all the Burnout games.
I even think it's fine to buy it new. What you can't seem to get through your thick skull is the fact that any downloaded version of the game should be cheaper than a new disc of the game for the obvious reasons I stated before.
BTW other burnout- I believe the development of the free DLC is paid for by the advertising not continued sales.
acidwolvers @ Sep 15th 2008 3:33PM
I thought GT5 Prologue was $35 or $40? Why are people bitching?
Tom @ Sep 15th 2008 3:27PM
Got mine used for $22. Why wait for a $30 download?
Whoppy @ Sep 15th 2008 3:39PM
The game I've played the most this year, I hope the next gen SSX is as awesome as Burnout.
FreshJulius @ Sep 15th 2008 6:08PM
Amen, amen, and amen.
Burnout has been great and Criterion is by far my favorite dev... now if we can get this sort of performance for SSX, instead of that On-Tour/Napolean-Dynomite-Meets-Iggy-Pop BS that they last crapped out, I'll be ecstatic!
Oh, I did love the addition of skiers though!
Gambit07 @ Sep 15th 2008 3:50PM
Even if these guys do an open world paint drying game, I will support them.
Byron517 @ Sep 15th 2008 3:55PM
LMAO this comment is MVP of this thread! Thanks Gambit for making me spew out coffee at work!!
Packfan @ Sep 15th 2008 4:18PM

I am about to go buy the game later this week since I don't want to take up any hdd space.
HPDEdriver @ Sep 15th 2008 4:01PM
Amazon has it for $27.99 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping.
SuperGayParade @ Sep 15th 2008 4:33PM
That's hard to pass up, but I almost want to pay the few extra bucks to support digital distribution
Ngai @ Sep 15th 2008 4:16PM
Awesome game!!
sicklesdawg @ Sep 15th 2008 5:38PM
Release it on PSN already!!!
bfnh @ Sep 15th 2008 7:31PM
i own the game. bought it new. plan to download it and give the disk to a friend. i prefer to have a game on the hd because i can access and play it whenever i want.
DTXSFC @ Sep 15th 2008 6:54PM
Now just add some weapons (chain & billy club) and we got ourselves the next generation Road Rash.
LatinoLA1 @ Sep 15th 2008 6:55PM
Can't wait for this Bike patch, its been taking too long or at least it feels like it is...
KinjiroSSD @ Sep 16th 2008 1:29AM
When this hits PSN, its an immediate purchase for me. I currently have this game for the 360 but most of my friends are on PSN.
Call me a sucker but I don't mind paying retail for the download. I want to support digital distribution as much as possible. I can see them shaving a few bucks off as an incentive although I don't have to spend time and gas getting the disc version plus having easy access to the game and faster loading/streaming (i'm assuming).
I can hear Sony PR for PS4 now; Physical media is so last gen.
John @ Sep 15th 2008 9:03PM
I didn't like this game when I first played it, but I am tempted to buy it now just to support all their download niceness. If they can get enough people to buy it now, all their download is more than paid for.
