Firmware 2.43 now available to download

Strangely, there's a new firmware update available on the PS3. However, it doesn't appear as though you're required to download it. You'll have to choose to manually update your system by accessing Network Update from the XMB. Considering the rather minute jump in the firmware version number (2.42 -> 2.43), we're assuming this update doesn't do much. Stay tuned.

Update: The firmware update will improve Japan's PS Store and video rental service. No need for non-Japanese PS3 owners to update.

Ugh, fix my broken 60gb PS3 already! I can't play DVDs, BluRays are messing up, any time I try and go to the in-game XMB or try to leave it, the game freezes up... just a multitude of problems that is really leaving me polarized. Please fix my problem, Sony! I don't want to lose something that's so difficult to find. =(

thats sounds totally like your drives lasers going out sorry to say.No firmware can fix it,I've replaced two so far and yours is just about to stop reading games too.If your under warranty send it in if not grab a new laser and git to crackin er open

maybe it wil fix the pink tint on the bottom of the tv screen whenever the background of the XMB is set to black, over hdmi.

I have a Samsung 720/1080i. I'm not exactly sure that a $1600 plasma set sucks balls though. Anyway, I'm looking to sell it and get me a $2200 LCD to see if the problem gets fixed. I was able to correct most of the bleeding by reformating the HD and adjusting the settings on the console and tv and now the pink color bleed is sporadic. I would have exchanged the ps3 but my local store don't have any more of the 60GB.

As sony said no need to install the update if you're out of japan region. I did anywayz and nothing happened. They also said it themself if you do so nothing will happen

I got this today and the only thing I saw for a different is when you go to your account way on the left side on XMB menu you'll see a "Turn Off System" That is the only thing I saw in 2.43 update

Japan Specific Update- Only Japanese region PS3's are required to update. You can manually update through the system update function on the XMB in other regions, but it won't add any new features.

...Did the update used to start as soon as it finds it...?..like i was reading the eula (good for a laugh...) and it was downloading in the background...accepted it and it was at 50%..

Never noticed that before...probably been there for ages :P

Didn't notice anything different about the JP Store...but i find it funny that on the LBP advert thing it has a FUN! Sticker on it :D ..like we need to be told.. :P

I recommend downloading and installing, the release notes are never complete, an update that apparantly made some game software work better also silently updated the bluetooth stack making my keyboard sync everytime instead of after random number of attempts.

This was on button masher website. They say this a quote from the PS Blog.

"Hi, everyone, I wanted to give you a heads up about PS3 firmware update (v2.43). Unlike previous updates, firmware v2.43 is specific to the Japan region, and only PS3 users there will be required to
install the update. PS3 users in all other regions will not be prompted to download v2.43. However, if you manually initiate a firmware update by clicking on “System Update” under the XMB’s Settings icon, the v2.43 update will be available, regardless of where you are located.

Users outside of Japan do not need to perform this update if your PS3 system software is on version v2.41 or later. However if you do perform the update, it will not cause any issues with your system or add any new functionality".
