God of War III's script could be loooooong

Apparently the game will be a "very specific three-act experience," meaning we can look forward to a beginning, middle and an end. That's good to know, considering too many games seem to follow the "opening sequence, game, closing sequence" format. Thankfully it seems that the PS3 isn't just allowing for improved gameplay experiences, but improved storytelling, too. Fine by us, bring it on.

Yes, but Kojima had alot of loose ends to wrap up. Most of the loose ends for the GoW franchise were wrapped up in GoW2 and Chains of Olympus for the PSP. Plus as much as I like MGS4 it was more movie and a little less game towards the end. Since the GoW script is significantly shorter as gamers we might not have that problem. Besides her script could just be dialog. That may not include all of the camera directions, stage directions and etc for the programmers and animators to incorporate.

MGS4 script 800-1000 pages long ... for reference.

Try playing some japanese games, they run on the plot alone, all you do in select what next to do from a list that appears between every 500 boxes of dialogue, lol
dip @ Sep 16th 2008 3:45PM
What the hell Japanese games do you play?
Amol @ Sep 17th 2008 1:22AM
Galge/Eroge probably =p

It's a long script but a script also contains descriptions, not only the characters lines. Also, you make it seem as if it's 120 pages of Kratos dialogue when it's supposed to include everyone's dialogue.
Anyway...the quaterman says we won't see this game until 2010...I hope he's wrong. GOW3 should be amazing, I hope it gets released next year.
joeybeast @ Sep 16th 2008 5:33PM
I say even 2010 is a bit optimistic considering they probably need to start from scratch. I can't recall Santa Monica studio release any PS3 game.

Well, as long as there is a balance between gameplay and cinematics, I am all in. Actually, I am all in regardless but I would appreciate a good balance. GOWIII = WIN.

this could mean more cutscenes than there are gameplay, seeing as how the average action/god of war title is 15.
or it could be 20+ hours due to the added cutscenes. i'm hoping for the latter.
Danny F. @ Sep 16th 2008 2:46PM
GoW2 was pretty much around 15 hours of gameplay altogether so figure with the much longer script we could be looking at around at least 25-30hours minimum. Especially since, as someone has noted, the script is slightly longer the MGS4.
I hope so, sometimes the GoW story can seem a lil short, not that its a bad thing but I really want this title to go into depth of the story and not simply make it into a action movie only. I have confidence that the GoW3 title will definitely be "THE" system selling title the PS3 needed. Of course summer 2009 seems to be the time this baby will come out >_
ryan @ Sep 16th 2008 3:59PM
someone noted the script is slightly shorter than MGS4 not longer. about 900 pages shorter.
HardBoiled @ Sep 16th 2008 1:50PM
I always thought the storytelling for GOW and GOW2 were fine in my books .. i cannot wait for GOW3 cause Zeus .. is going down * points down *
anthonyjh @ Sep 16th 2008 2:08PM
That's... not that long? It's about 45 minutes to an hour and half, generally speaking.
I was in plays in junior high that had longer scripts.

I will sacrifice 3 goats a day until I own god of war 3.

"Thankfully it seems that the PS3 isn't just allowing for improved gameplay experiences, but improved storytelling, too."
Yes, it's all thanks to the PS3 hardware that three-act stories have a foothold -- finally! -- in mainstream gaming.
I know you write for PS3 Fanboy, but could you be less of a slobbering douche about it?
doc j @ Sep 16th 2008 3:22PM
Don't hold back, tell me how you really feel.
warpig @ Sep 16th 2008 5:25PM
Does it really matter about the length of good game/script?
Adjsteam @ Sep 17th 2008 2:24PM
mgs4 is too long, less script more game
