Infinity Ward pegged to develop Call of Duty 6
These game announcements come earlier and earlier, don't they? No sooner had Call of Duty 4 come out than we started hearing rumblings of Call of Duty 5. Now, that game isn't even out and we're hearing word that Call of Duty 6 is already being planned. But Treyarch won't be at the helm, it'll be Infinity Ward working their magic. That's literally all we know about the game.
We're not sure whether Infinity Ward and Treyarch will keep alternating year-on-year, or whether Activision has so little faith in Treyarch that they're hedging their bets for 2009. The least we're hoping is that COD6 won't be set during World War II. Though it still boggles our mind that we're already talking about the game, when its predecessor hasn't even been released.

I too think WWII settings are gay and over played now-a-days. There's seemingly about 2.3 million WWII games already on the market.
flynn110 @ Sep 16th 2008 5:20PM
calling something 'gay' is much worse than setting an fps in wwii. are we in 4th grade?
farfisa @ Sep 16th 2008 5:27PM
Don't ask, don't tell.
Emophia @ Sep 16th 2008 6:07PM
I like world war settings if they're well done, but I don't see anything wrong with his usage of the word 'gay' as 'lame'.
Averna @ Sep 17th 2008 12:05AM
I am over the WWII setting too, but hey at least it looks like a decent game. May have anique weapons but I used the M14 in COD4, so I see a big issue really.
The Dark Trooper @ Sep 17th 2008 6:39AM
@Emophia
Maybe If you weren't such a cunt. You would see that the use of the word 'gay' insults the millions of homosexuals out there. They already have to put up with enough of this no Gay Marridge bollocks, Without having to put up with your shit as well.
RossGough @ Sep 17th 2008 10:08AM
christ..
that was quite aggressive!
Akio @ Sep 16th 2008 5:06PM
Ha its true they cant stop
hawk4lifeci @ Sep 16th 2008 5:06PM
Can I put my pre order in now?
Duffman @ Sep 16th 2008 5:10PM
It would be better if they did like Insomniac and produce two totally different genre games every year. That way you don't get bored with the every year crap syndrome that plagues e.g. NHL/FIFA series.
Popfrogs @ Sep 16th 2008 6:32PM
That's the trouble with the entire sports genre. It reaches a peak to the point where every year is a number/roster update. Madden 2k9 probably just added grass blades to the field and left everything else the same.
DeathroW @ Sep 16th 2008 5:09PM
Too bad it will probably suck, like CoD4.
Seminole @ Sep 16th 2008 5:43PM
Shut your mouth! Take that back and leave my COD4 alone.
I can't believe they went back to WW2 for COD5. All I grew up with was WW2 FPS's and I'm sick to death of them. Hopefully COD6 follows a COD4 format.
Swamp Donkey @ Sep 16th 2008 10:56PM
lol, you don't usually see people bagging on COD4 as much as Halo 3.
How about this one...
"People still play COD4?"

No more then the modern type games are being
released.
example's socom series,rainbow six series,merc series,
ghost recon series,mgs.
So that was a given that IW would make the next
game.
I think it's a good plain give each game maker plenty
of time do their own thing on the style of game
they want for the next installment.
Twinturbo120 @ Sep 16th 2008 5:27PM
This is just ridiculous
Gman @ Sep 16th 2008 5:31PM
Hells yeah. I can't wait. But seriously, is COD ever going to belong to just one developer?
kentuckyfried @ Sep 16th 2008 6:04PM
Unlikely, unless IW becomes so huge that it more than doubles it size.
Even then, when a company gets bigger, it becomes less efficient. I think they like their mean, lean aggressive size as-is for the most part.
will @ Sep 16th 2008 5:48PM
you really didn't see this coming? i thought it was common knowledge they'd be switching off?
thinkofmeasmra @ Sep 17th 2008 12:54PM
as did i...it really doesnt mean the next one will be modern, since Infiniti Ward did COD2
The1stMJC @ Sep 16th 2008 6:01PM
As long as this dont take place in WW2 or or in space I will check it out. God there too many space and world war games. What about C0D6: the 12 day war.
rollntider @ Sep 16th 2008 6:24PM
as a bonus for the xbox owners the RROD will happen on the 12th day, they can be rewarded with Bill gates sending them yet another system.
Popfrogs @ Sep 16th 2008 6:27PM
Rumor has it Treyfail will make COD7 an American civil war game and use the sixaxis's motion-sensing to reload your Springfield musket. Picture up and down yanking motion.
lorddshadow @ Sep 16th 2008 9:27PM
COD9:Samurai Warfare?
"Use your left stick to run while swinging your controller to swing your blade while knocking down lamps at the same time!"
Sauvage @ Sep 16th 2008 6:14PM
Lack of originality prompts sequels!! It's a quick buck, like PES, Fifa, Madden, NBA etc. If you compares games to films, just look at how much everyone liked Star Wars episodes 1, 2 and 3 or Aliens 4.
Dartmerc @ Sep 16th 2008 6:31PM
Wait, wait..
when was World at War dubbed COD5?
I've never seen a source for that, if someone can point me to one I'd be appreciative.

I don't like this churning out of games every year.. It cheapens the I.P IMO.
That's why with the Fifa games I only buy the World Cup editions.
Jah916 @ Sep 16th 2008 10:33PM
another 60 bucks for a mulitplayer game ;/
ryan @ Sep 17th 2008 12:08AM
it won't be called 6 since the next CoD won't be called 5.
ryan @ Sep 17th 2008 12:11AM
and btw, 360fanboy's COD6 shop looks better.
shack_up @ Sep 17th 2008 9:37AM
I think it is a great 1 2 punch. Treyarch is in the WW2 realm and IW is in the modern warefare realm. Think about it. The 2 year split between each developers game gives them time to really polish there games. It is so much worse to push a game out year after year like the so called EA games that don't change much. Feels like you are giving them a yearly subscription. with this type of development they have the time to work on the game and give it the added content that gamers want and it does not leave out the group that likes either the WW2 or MW areas. Great work activision. others should take note.

Look at the Swedish blog, lol. :)

If Treyarch was smart, this new cod5 would be set in Vietnam not WW2 or ww1. Or maybe a civil war simulator would be cool, but honestly Vietnam would be a great game, if it was made true to vietnam, very dark and not a fun war like ww2.
joe @ Sep 17th 2008 11:56AM
Call of Duty: 'Nam
Brian @ Sep 17th 2008 4:29PM
YAY... Infinity Ward > Treyarch. Treyarch reminds me of a stupid guy named Trey.
Clif Watson @ Sep 17th 2008 6:55PM
Its always made sense to me. If you want to put out an annual title and it take 18+ months for development than you'd have to work with more than one developer. Same thing with movie productions. If Warner Brothers only put out what they could make in their own studio with their own resources they'd go out of business.
NOW if its going to be WW2 one year...and Modern Combat the next...well Activision is getting money from me every other year. I would hope to see CoD5 sales LOWER than CoD4 so that when Treyarch is up to bat again they might step out of the tired WW2 genre come CoD7. Even CoD7: Vietnam = Hell would be a nice change for them!
