Yah! for Sony Cat!
Seems that Curing Cancer Platinum trophy may exist!
Lars @ Sep 18th 2008 12:44PM
I had downloaded that a few months ago, but I couldn't understand what the heck was going on.
Kristopher gonzalez @ Sep 18th 2008 12:45PM
That Toro "game" rocks!
I wish they would introduce it to the western market.
Jerses @ Sep 18th 2008 12:46PM
what? for read stuff??? they should patch the music with trophies..
Platinum - Get over 20gb in mp3 files
Gold - Every mp3 should have its own cover
Bronze - Delete 20 corrupted files
Cesarcsrf @ Sep 18th 2008 12:52PM

The 1st trophy is just play the game. Nothing to do with september or an update.
Metal_Gear @ Sep 18th 2008 1:08PM
They really should add Trophies to Folding@Home, obviously not curing cancer but every few folds you get, you get a Trophy. That will really help the program will all the Trophy whores that are out there.
On The Matrix Online forums, there was a MxO team, and one who contributed the most that month got a special rank on the forum.
jarhead906 @ Sep 18th 2008 1:48PM
Is anyone else having problems with the program not counting your complete Work Units?
I've done at least 10 since F@H released, but it says I've completed 0. I don't know if this has to do with me being part of a team ( I joined the PSM magazine team, which is now Playstation: The Official Magazine).
wilboss @ Sep 18th 2008 2:12PM
@jarhead 906I've had exactly the same problem, completed 3 separate units and not one has registered. The one time I was by the PS3 when a unit finished it came up with some sort of server connection error then just started another unit - surely if there's a problem connecting it should save the data and try a bit later, not just chuck it out and start again!?
heypaul @ Sep 18th 2008 2:13PM
I've been having that problem for ages. Even the patch they released a few months ago that supposedly solved the problem didn't solve it completely. I'm not sure if it's actually not successfully transferring the completed Folding data or just not locally counting the completed work unit. If it's the latter, no big deal, there are other things like trophies to stroke my online ego that I don't really care for a high work unit count. If it's the former, they should really sort it out, as they've probably lost 20 work units of data from me in the last month alone.
Emyrs @ Sep 19th 2008 12:36AM
keep in mind that since there are thousands of people running Folding, it will happen that two or more may be decoding the same package. If someone else finishes the unit before you, they get credit and you dont.
Fane @ Sep 19th 2008 1:25AM
Emrys is not quite right. They need multiple runs of each simulation, so you aren't racing other "folders", but there is a time limit for each simulation (which you could see if you looked at the project profile, but which wasn't given in the main data for some unknown reason) by which it needs to be finished for you to get credit. I don't know if the new client gives the time limit anywhere. Moral: only start a simulation when you are willing to let your PS3 fold until it is finished.

@Kristopher gonzalez
well u can still download it through the japan playstation store and in a way u really don't need to know how to speak or read japanese tu get tha trophies since there basically straight fowards or u can check out walkthroughs on gamefaqs, but im sure u know about this already though...if so awesome
Gambit07 @ Sep 18th 2008 1:47PM
I think the whole point of this is to get the Japanese crowd to get into trophies.
Momba14 @ Sep 18th 2008 1:56PM
there should be an option in this game to change it to English.
R_Shackelford @ Sep 18th 2008 2:10PM
WTF? This crap actually adds to your trophy tally and level experience? Just running/updating the program? Just "reading"? I'm not familiar with this app, but couldn't one just open and close the "Toro Station" over and over?
They may be trying to get the Japanese folks into trophies, but garbage like this is just going to diminish their value for everyone else. How about Hardware Trophies? Bronze: Watch a Blu-Ray movie. Silver: Turn on your PS3 once a day for a week.
Effing stupid.
stargateheaven @ Sep 18th 2008 3:32PM
It takes a long time to do. And the stories are interesting. And quite funny too.
Morouxshi @ Sep 19th 2008 11:55AM
I dont know how entertaining or funny they are because I cant speak Japanese. But yes, you can go over and over and over, just press X and it continues on until they wave goodbye. Sometimes they ask you questions and you have to select whatever the other option is.
I got 3 last night while I was watching TV. :)
All you need is a JP account to download the program, and then you can use it with your US account. easy as pie.
Morouxshi @ Sep 18th 2008 2:38PM
I think it's sad that I downloaded this off the JP PSN store when I got my PS3. Theres a few guides around the web to figure out kind of sort of whats going on.
Now I have JP trophies to confuse my friends!
rgoff31 @ Sep 18th 2008 2:41PM
I have it installed, I can't do much in it because I can't read Japanese. For some easy trophies I'll give it a try.
Harold @ Sep 18th 2008 2:53PM
Hold on. If you download this with a Japanese account your trophies will be added to your Japanese PSN account, not your regular account, right? Is there anyway to get these trophies on your US PSN account?
rgoff31 @ Sep 18th 2008 3:18PM
It downloads in your JPN account, but is available to all your PS3 Accounts.
stargateheaven @ Sep 18th 2008 3:32PM
Download with JP account. Play with your regular account.
SnazzyD @ Sep 18th 2008 6:59PM
As for Folding@Home, it does not keep a running count of your lifetime units, just the ones you have done during the current session. It's not a bug, so relax...
flubba @ Sep 18th 2008 3:16PM
In the game, press X to bring up the menu.
Choose the spinning globe with cat ears by pressing X again, this will bring up the next menu, choose the third menu item here and then choose anything.
This gave me Trophy nr 2, I might have allready read 2 things before...
Vintsukka @ Sep 18th 2008 8:59PM
Thanks, this helped out a lot!
Khaled @ Sep 18th 2008 11:40PM
Thanks!
Devil240Z @ Sep 18th 2008 3:35PM
mainichi issyo is really cool, there should be an english version.
I try to read it but my japanese sucks.
KROTCHY @ Sep 18th 2008 3:39PM
Hi everyone!
I have a problem with this "game" ... I started and didnt do nothing just loading ... what can I do with this?
Lil_Mermaid_Girl @ Sep 18th 2008 3:43PM
It loads very slow. Just give it time. I also got an error and told me to push circle button, but the game loaded fine afterwards without re-starting or anything.
Lil_Mermaid_Girl @ Sep 18th 2008 3:39PM
You only have to have a Japanese account to download it. Then just install it and you can play it on your main account and get the trophies for it on that account.
The trophies are easy to get, but the game is more than just reading. There are mini games (against cpu and real people), customizing your house and shopping for stuff (you get points cash for reading stories too), etc. I really wish Sony had let this come stateside and to Europe too. It's free and could have exposed more gamers to it. Plus it could have been marketed to attract more casual gamers which is a big market that sony doesnt really have yet (until LBP anyways). Oh well I guess... :(
They really should implemt the way this game gives news to people into Home though. Say when you're in your home you could log onto a virtual pc or through the psp, or even reading a virtual newspaper, and then have it go into a sequence like Mainichi does, but instead of Toro the cat have a popular U.S. sony character (say Clank), give the news since he's kinda the smart type that would know the news. That could be an interesting way to give more depth to Home and gve gamers more news (Mainichi gives news about games, weather, local businesses, etc. updated all the time. I read one about japanese tennis stars). Clank could give news on stuff like that geared towards the region in which the player is in in Home.
Sinistar @ Sep 18th 2008 7:32PM
That's a pretty good idea on using Clank for the US version.. the squeaky nioses that the cats use when moving around get annying lol
Phizzy @ Sep 18th 2008 3:50PM
It's romanised 'issho', not 'issyo'. Why do people keep writing that? Is it because of the noobs who keep reverting the wikipedia article because they've watched Naruto so they think they can speak fluent Japanese?
stargateheaven @ Sep 18th 2008 4:44PM
It annoys me too. LOL. Although they could argue it's the same.. Even on a japanese keyboard if you type issyo it comes out the same.
Phizzy @ Sep 22nd 2008 4:24PM
Yeah, issho = いっしょ and issyo = いっしょ, but いっしょ is ISSHO. Both turn into it but it only changes back in one way.
King @ Dec 8th 2008 3:05PM
Yea, しょ is definitely sho (shi + yo) not syo...
Devil240Z @ Sep 18th 2008 4:10PM
mainichi issyo is really cool, there should be an english version.
I try to read it but my japanese sucks.
kazenoshinobi2 @ Sep 18th 2008 5:07PM
I had this game... I guess this are easy tophies. Where's Toro Station?
Vintsukka @ Sep 18th 2008 8:49PM
I downloaded and started using it. I have no idea what is going on on the screen but it's funny as hell!
I got the first trophy when I started it and the second one after going through three news items, but then I didn't get anything after ten times. There were only 8 items and I've gone through them all twice now. Does it only register news items as being read when they're new? Does this mean I have to wait till they update to get the trophies?
Vintsukka @ Sep 18th 2008 9:57PM
Nevermind... I was only reading the guides, not the actual news. Here's a translation of the menus that helped me:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps3/file/943341/53482
Khaled @ Sep 18th 2008 11:40PM
Thanks, I just got my first trophy!
Warner Young @ Sep 19th 2008 4:18AM
How do you get this game to start correctly? I got through the license agreement screens, but I end up at a screen that (if I'm translating correctly) says I need to set my date/time correctly first by pressing the PS button and ending the game. There's a small graphic of a spinning clock in the bottom right corner. The game won't let me past this point.
KROTCHY @ Sep 19th 2008 5:11AM
Ive got this problem too ... anyway thanks the translation :) Maybe we have to change the date&time or else ... Im a european, U?
Khaled @ Sep 19th 2008 8:28AM
I used to get this, but now it works fine. I reinstalled it.
Vintsukka @ Sep 19th 2008 8:37AM
Set your system's clock via internet. (Setting -> Date and Time Setting -> Date and Time -> Set via Internet). That should do it.
KROTCHY @ Sep 19th 2008 10:06AM
Thanks Vintsukka, thats working ;)
MR SMITH @ Sep 19th 2008 12:25PM
this game doesn't work 4 me either and i hav tried everything that other people hav sed
Warner Young @ Sep 19th 2008 4:07PM
Vintsukka, so you mean instead of setting the date and time manually, to make sure the system gets it from the internet?
In any case, thanks. I'll give that a try when I get home tonight.
Warner Young @ Sep 19th 2008 11:03PM
Vintsukka, thanks. Getting the date/time from the internet fixed the problem. Now I'm, uh, happily (?) watching my cat/creature/thing cleaning his apartment.
I notice that their Toro Station news items actually seem to have a lot of info buried in there: how to do voice chat, making sure people know about the LittleBigPlanet beta, etc. Not really what I expected at all.
