Rumor: New Metal Gear Solid title discovered
Always one to sniff out new trademarks, Siliconera points us in the direction of "Metal Gear Solid Existence." It's a name Konami filed in the Japanese Trademark database. We can't say for sure what this title will be used for -- is this some sort of new game altogether or is it the name of an MGS4 re-release a la Substance and Subsistence? It certainly seems to fit the shoe of the latter category.
However, all we have to go with right now is a name; there's not enough facts and evidence to say for sure. It might not ever be used. So for now, we're filing this under 'rumors.' Perhaps with Tokyo Game Show just around the bend, we might hear of something official soon.

As you said, it seems likely to be a re-release of MGS4....now with the demo theater. *sigh*
SoupaNova @ Sep 19th 2008 9:39AM
@ Neil
*sigh*?
i cant wait for a rerelease... i want more features for this game ^^ i'd be happy re-buying this game...
Metal_Gear @ Sep 19th 2008 9:52AM
-Demo Theatre
-Trophies
-Custom Music on iPod
-Lots of other weird and wonderful stuff that Kojima comes up with.
Insta-buy! For me at least.
Neil @ Sep 19th 2008 10:01AM
@SoupaNova
My point was it sucks that once they found out people liked the Demo Theater feature they stopped putting it in the "first edition" of the game and started putting it in the "second edition" of the game to give people a reason to buy what is essentially the same game twice.
reson8er @ Sep 19th 2008 10:34AM
@ Neil
While I do agree with you that it sucks that they do include the demo theater upon initial release, in reality that's a bonus feature, and not the game itself. If you want that feature, if its worth it to ya, you'll pony up the bucks, I know I will.
Besides, if you really like the game, they add a TON of new things to these "after releases". Plus I'm sure they really did not have time to include all the things since they needed to finish the game in 2008 lol.
Depending on whats offered, I'll get this, and I already purchased the LE.

Metal Gear Solid Existence...on 360 that is.
Yup I knew it all along. Just like all the rumors reported. MGS4's been out for quite a while and is starting to die down on sales. A 360 port will bring an infusion of some well deserved cash for Konami and Kojima for this masterful game.
Popfrogs @ Sep 19th 2008 12:11PM
LOL @ Fenix...you guys just never give up, it's pretty sad.
Lars @ Sep 19th 2008 1:28PM
Metal Gear is by no means a Playstation-specific franchise. But they always seem to go with the most powerful system. Therefore, a 360 port is very unlikely. Even die-hard 360 fanboys must submit the fact that the 360 couldn't run a game like that without some kind of quality reduction.
Roto13 @ Sep 19th 2008 9:39PM
"Metal Gear is by no means a Playstation-specific franchise. But they always seem to go with the most powerful system."
Uh, this is the first time they've gone with the most powerful system.
flubba @ Sep 19th 2008 9:40AM
They used the same name for the bonus disc on MGS3, which included the cinematics and gameplay part but you couldn't play.
Lars @ Sep 19th 2008 1:39PM
Yep. I've got a friend with that version.
Byron517 @ Sep 19th 2008 9:41AM
YES regardless of what it is I'm excited anything Hideo puts out is going to be sweet!!
Batzi @ Sep 19th 2008 9:42AM
Hell yea! Bring it on KOJIMA!
bambino @ Sep 19th 2008 9:56AM
Multiplat?
Chuck @ Sep 19th 2008 10:17AM
I would imagine not but as a Wii360 owner, I'd be very happy at the news.
Mmmm... Metal Gear Waggle
Byron517 @ Sep 19th 2008 10:21AM
I don't think that's possible nor do I believe Hideo would go back on his word after saying countless times that he was not making MGS4 on Xbox.. but who knows.. Eitherway I'm glad that something Metal Gear is coming out!!
benny boy @ Sep 19th 2008 10:25AM
doubt it.
ryan @ Sep 19th 2008 11:30AM
i remember a certain developer adamantly say that he'd cut his own head off if his game went over to another system 3 years ago.
AmericanNinja @ Sep 19th 2008 10:25AM
Its a new version of MGS4 that has trophies and MGO will use the PSN.
Kspraydad @ Sep 19th 2008 10:29AM
Konami is JUST a games company...not a freaking miracle worker.
psone @ Sep 19th 2008 10:42AM
Raiden as a playable character?
Yamster @ Sep 19th 2008 10:42AM
Nuh-uh. Existence was the bonus third disc packaged with the first editions of MGS3: Subsistence, which essentially put together cut-scenes from the game as a 3-hour 'movie'. Existence already exists, it's not a new game.
boltu222 @ Sep 19th 2008 2:30PM
Thats what I'm thinking too... its possible its just been trademarked late... or maybe just for a rerelease...
Aysir @ Sep 19th 2008 10:45AM
Dammit Yamster just beat me to it! I was gonna act all smart and say that too :(
ryan @ Sep 19th 2008 11:32AM
lol, rumor deflated.
will @ Sep 19th 2008 11:32AM
i would literally cum allover my 30" Cinema Display if this was a remake of MGS1 with the new engine.
Tom @ Sep 19th 2008 1:16PM
Hardly. The MGS3 version would be much better. The MGS4 engine was a piece of shit, like pretty much everything else about the game.
Rule of thumb: don't buy a game with the number 4 in the title. MGS4, GTA 4 and DMC 4 all disappointed. Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War was much more fun to play than any of those, and it was cheaper too. Spore is also a fun game, and Portal: The Flash Version map pack was better than the original game, which wasn't really that funny or innovative.
Don't believe the reviewers, people.
Lars @ Sep 19th 2008 1:37PM
I admire your independent thinking.
But I also think you're on crack for thinking the MGS3 engine is better than the MGS4 engine.
I definitely don't blindly follow reviews, but I enjoyed GTA4, it's a great rental for when you wanna just screw around and blow stuff up. I hated GTA3 though. The only GTA I really liked a lot was Vice City. I've never really been a DMC fan, so I can't really comment on that one. I found Bladestorm interesting but ultimately not for me. Spore is an excellent game! I think it deserves a 10. Oh and the flash version of Portal IS the original version. But that doesn't mean the Valve version sucks... not at all, it was great too, but more for the character interaction than the puzzles.
Cameron @ Sep 19th 2008 12:10PM
It's not a new game, it's the bonus 3rd disc on MGS3:Subsistence called Existence which plays MGS3's story out like an actual movie.
And no, MGS3 will NEVER EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR come out on the 360. It will require a serious retooling of the dialogue, since it makes mention to the cell processor being the key to winning the console war, and the dual shock 3 now having vibration, and the original playstation memory cards. Besides, it will require more than 6 discs to get everything on DVDs, so forget your wet dream about MGS and just get a PS3, it's MGS4 is head and shoulders above anything that will come out for the next 3 years at LEAST. The artistry and the game design really are that perfect.
doom saber @ Sep 19th 2008 12:20PM
I agree since I wonder how Konami would modified the Screamin' mantis cutscenes in the game.
If this was for a different console, that whole part has to be retooled, not to mention the ipod has to be changed into a zune and all the apple logos to generic computer ones. MS cannot have apple products be in the game since they are their rivals with the zune.
doom saber @ Sep 19th 2008 12:30PM
Basically, it would cost Kojima to change things that they paid royalities for somethin else unless they go with a fictional brand like instead of ipod, they went metal gear music player or something lame like that.
Lavat @ Sep 19th 2008 1:04PM
Expect it only to be a new MGO expansion set...And as it has said...It was registered independently from Metal gear solid 4.
Kojima is off the circuit right now and so is Ryan Payton...It is only Logical now that is MGO related...Which I am actually excited for.
Lavat @ Sep 19th 2008 1:39PM
And doesn't the fact that the name 'Existence' was already used for MGS3 scratch out any possibility of it being used twice for two expansions?
Tolkienfanatic @ Sep 19th 2008 3:09PM
Definitely gonna be the re-lease... and yes I am a sap and will almost certainly buy it >_>
zeltrec @ Sep 19th 2008 3:16PM
interesting..
Araskaz @ Sep 19th 2008 5:20PM
Did you guys know, that if you die during the Ocelot figth at the end, instead of saying "Exit" on the menu it says "Exist" ?
Could that be another hint to MGS Existence?
Jerry @ Sep 19th 2008 8:03PM
Sounds cool, but i dont think i will buy it again, maybe they must put an update for the game and having the same features.
blah @ Sep 19th 2008 9:43PM
i think they should just create a DLC in PS store so we can buy it. i really don't want to buy the same game again just for the bonus features.
George @ Sep 19th 2008 9:59PM
but there's a catch; there is already a "Metal Gear Solid Existence." MGS3: Subsistence had a bonus disc in the limited edition entitled "MGS3: Existence," and that was the movie-fied version of the game's cutscenes. Really well done and very watchable, too. Though a bit on the long side for a movie, it cuts out all the trivial bits of the game and makes it into something you can get the girlfriend to watch (and later play; I was pretty lucky.)
Still, MGS3 had two discs, three in the LE, each with a title. 1 was Subsistence, 2 (with the original MGO) was Persistence, and then 3 was Existence.
I assume they're just forgetfully re-using the name, but still...
kentuckyfried @ Sep 21st 2008 4:35AM
Maybe Existence is a standalone release of MGO that INCLUDES some method of playing MGO1!
That would make a ton of the hardcore original fans ecstatic.
Really? @ Sep 22nd 2008 9:13AM
I can't wait to see what happens when they find Persistence.
Jared @ Sep 22nd 2008 12:42PM
Good to see that John Wayne is in the game according to that screenshot
