Newell says Valve needs to invest in PS3 development
So does that mean we can expect to see a PS3 version of Zombie-pocalyse-em-up Left 4 Dead? Newell states that Valve doesn't "have the bandwidth. For The Orange Box, EA did the PS3 version. They're interested in getting a PS3 version done. We just have to figure out where the resources can come from." Probably not until after the 360 and PC versions, then. Still, it's great that Valve is going to be looking into PS3 development at some point in the future. We're just hoping it's sooner, rather than later.

Don't talk nonsense, HE may have done in the past but now he's admitting VALVE don't have the bandwidth to handle more versions.
I just want a timely, highly polished version of HL2: Episode 3 on PS3. The PS3's far more than capable, Source on PS3 just needs a lot more love and commitment.

The source engine needs to die. Look at how ridiculously out dated it is. I'll admit that it's still useful and good, but imagine what they could be using instead.

Um.. this is almost a complete opposite of the article that Joystiq posted. All Valve said was they had a lack of bandwidth and that there wouldn't be a L4D or TF2 updates on the PS3 or something like that.

Then here we are, down the track, with the PS3 continually picking up sales and new exclusive titles, the promises Sony broke in the past 2 years finally coming good and the console improving right across the board and he shows interest.

Ha, Valve is on the downward spiral, the only game that I still play from them is CS source, other than that I never buy any of the other garbage they create. HL2, is boring as hell.

i had halflife2 for PC, and played portal at a friends, and they are fun and great for what they are but I can care less if source engine doesnt get optimized for PS3. source engine is outdated....

The developers at Valve probably didn't want to learn how to use the PS3's architecture. That's really no excuse, however, when you look at how many PS3 owners there are. There aren't as many as PC or 360, but there are still millions of people out there willing to buy Valve products that own PS3s.

He said quite loud and clear that the PS3 is a waste of time. Subsequently PS3 owners said loud and clear that Gabe Newell and Valve is a waste of time.

I really don't understand why there is always so much hate towards developers. Sometimes I wish I didn't try to keep informed.
I mean stuff like this always kinda changes my view on the games that developers produce. If I knew nothing about all the politics that goes on behind the scenes and just focussed on the games they produce I think I'd be better off.
Having said this Gabe Newell is a total douche!!! Won't stop me from buying his game's if they're good though.

Well, there is hate towards developers for many reasons. People hate on EA for releasing low quality rehashes with poor QA and releasing patches to fix things that never should have made it to the gold release.
People hate on Gabe/Valve for trashing the PS3 at every opportunity. But in Gabe's case it's even worse; not only did he say the PS3 sucked/architecture was too crazy/would never code for it, Valve dumped their game off to a junky EA studio in London. Some say the port was pretty close to the Xbox version, I don't know as I haven't played it.
He still isn't talking about making games for the PS3. All he's saying now is that it'd be a good idea to port the (aging) Source engine to the PS3 so that _other_ developers can make games using the engine. Since Epic's Unreal engine has had either bad games or poor results on the PS3, the market for a licensed engine on the PS3 is still wide open and Valve could use the revenue stream. Especially since they know the PS3 is going to be growing in numbers for years and will be around for a very long time before a PS4 debuts.
At least, that's how I see the situation.

I've read all the news and understand all of this, but developers make the decisions they make for a reason. Despite what has been said and done by developers, i'm sure it's all been done in the name of profitability which is fair enough.
I mean at the time Gabe was probably just pissed cause he saw what was an unnecessarily complicated architecture in the PS3 and didn't see the PS3 user base to be big enough to justify the production costs. Now with all the positive momentum of the PS3 he does see profitabilty and is changing his mind.
People always seem to take a negative view on posts like these saying things like "I won't buy his game" among other more personal insults based solely on politics which is my point. The bottom line is PS3 has one more developer with a proven record of pushing out great games and people should be happy.

As for Valve... Counter Strike was great (when I was 15), I could never even beat Half Life 2 (because of loss of interest half way through), Portal was great (but wasn't even their game initially?) and I have interest in L4D, but I won't cry if it never comes to PS3.
Point is, I have tons of games to play on the PS3 despite what people want you to believe. I could care less if Valve invests fully in the system. If they do, they do, if not, bug f-ing deal.

I think its a good thing theyre looking into PS3. As much hate as there is for this guy from the PS3 camp (arguably deserved), more games, without being botched port jobs (Orange Box), cannot really be a bad thing. If you wanna boycott them, just dont buy the games. I for one do not want to miss out on a great game just because i disslike its developer.

Just look at the picture of the man, he spends so much time stuffing his face, he can't be bothered to change his shirt for publicity shots (ewww...egg stains running down his front)..i can just imagine him sitting at his desk(heavy duty chair), keyboard to the left, graphics pad to the right, and a 1 pound sub stuck in his gob, bits of food all over his desk, burping, salivating and farting, ordering the poor tea boy to go and get more donuts...the image makes me feel physically sick...maybe when he suffers a heart attack (and the machine used to revive him is 'cell' based) then he can look back at the irony...w@nker!

Who cares? Valve is the most overrated game dev. in the industry besides Bungie. The Orange Box was overrated as hell, the only decent game on there was Portal and that wasn't even that great. I still don't understand why Half Life is considered so legendary. Now everybody is overrating Left 4 Dead when it looks like a PS2 game and a standard FPS.

When you consider the other shooters around, Half Life is pretty much platinum (atleast if Halo 3 is gold). Left 4 Dead is hyped because there aren't many PC co-op shooters that are specifically designed for it. That being said, L4D should be pretty good for the PC community.
The only alternative is still Zombie Mod on Counter-Strike (or Counter-Strike: Source).
About the graphics; I thought the same thing lol. But it looks like valve has stepped in and upgraded all of their models to a TF2 engine representation of HL2-like designed characters (lots of facial expression movement and the lot). It passes... this time.
I'm debating on whether to get it or not. (I never even touched TF2 more than 3 times total)
