Unreal Tournament 3 patch fixes bugs, in case you care
We can't help but wonder why Epic has decided to patch up Unreal Tournament 3 so late in the day, but they've done just that. The patch fixes a long list of problems, including AI issues, stability problems and other tweaks and improvements. It should be live by now -- simply place your UT3 disc in the PS3 drive and it will ask you to update. Of course, that's assuming you're still playing the game. Are you? If so, you probably won't be for long, what with WipEout HD (among plenty of other stuff) arriving tomorrow and Blu-ray releases ramping up from here til Christmas. Still, a free patch is a free patch.

I sold this ages ago. I wouldn't be playing it anyway even if I still had it.
I'm too busy playing the AMAZING LittleBigPlanet beta. (Seriously, everyone should buy this game when it comes out. It is literally brilliant.)
Anyway, with WipeoutHD coming out tomorrow and the slew of amazing games in the next few months, you have to wonder why Epic even bothered.

I bought this game a long time ago with my 80 GB PS3 and since it didn't have the HDMI cable, this game was hardly visible to play on my HDTV equipped with the A/V cable. Unfortunately, I sold the game before I bought an HDMI cable (months after I got the PS3) but I don't know why it took me so long to buy a cable. It could have been a better experience for me if I had it beforehand.
:(

This comment system is soo annoying.
Vannoy @ Sep 24th 2008 5:51PM
Tell me about it, with all the comment hijacking going on (you know when someone comment on a post where they have nothing to do with the actual post itself) it's sooo freaking annoying..

WHERE IS THE SPLIT SCREEN THAT WAS PROMISED!?
JerJerBinks @ Sep 24th 2008 6:00PM
Actually, they said that split screen would NOT be coming to the PS3 version. There was to much work for so little gain to retrofit the game for split screen. Sucks, I know.

Haha I just was playing the game right before this for the first time in a while. It really is a great game, I'm definitely going to play it more.
When I'm not playing Wipeout, that is.
maxpontiac @ Sep 24th 2008 5:56PM
Almost bought this game, but the lack of spilt screen ruined it for me.
Now if they patched the game for trophies (shouldn't be hard with the 360 version having achievements), people might give it a second look.
Sentai_Powa @ Sep 24th 2008 6:11PM
Thats funny, i was thinking about plopping this game in for some Bot Killing Fun, since next to no-one plays it online anymore....................but the Bot's Are really smart on the higher settings, so they give me a good run for my money.
And if you want split-screen, you'll have to buy the 360 version, since the PS3 version is more like a Direct port of the PC version, witch also lacks splitscreen.
But beware, the 360 version has No user Mod support and you can't use a Keyboard and Mouse (but in the PS3 version, you can, =D).
KRIS_C_123 @ Sep 24th 2008 6:12PM
is this a good game?
was thinking of buying it a while back but had no money and its bound to be cheaper now
Sentai_Powa @ Sep 24th 2008 6:17PM
IMO yes.
But youll pretty much only be playing against Bot's (its online Commuity died along time ago), but on the high settings, they are smarter and harder than any human player ever could be.
if you can find it on the cheap, pick it up for sure. Killing the Bots never gets old.
And you can use User mods in the PS3 version, in fact you can direct download to your PS3 from UT3mod.com.
benny boy @ Sep 24th 2008 6:16PM
I wouldn't buy it if I were you.
There are soo many better games out there. Especially in terms of FPSs: COD4, even the original Resistance I think is better than UT3.
If you do buy it, I think you'll find it pretty enjoyable at first but you soon start to find it to be completely un-fun (if that's even a real word).
ajiezer @ Sep 24th 2008 6:17PM
If you liked previous games you'll love it, it's one of the few games that I have enjoyed playing against the PS3 instead of humans
benny boy @ Sep 24th 2008 6:24PM
It is really cheap now though so there's no harm in giving it a try. I think opinions are split on this game. I just felt it was too bland and lacked any fun or soul.
dblakenz @ Sep 24th 2008 6:28PM
No. IMO. I sold it long ago. There is no single player campaign, well there is, but I would hardly call it a "campgain", otherwise its just a multiplayer game of you vs bots since no-one is playing this online. I just didnt find it that fun, but hey that's just me, rent first, but I would say keep your $ for one of the many many other game's that will be more fun and that will be comming out soon!
KRIS_C_123 @ Sep 24th 2008 6:29PM
wooh that was some quick replying thanks,
ive never played any of the other ones but this looked good when i first seen it, what you are suggesting is i should buy it because it is a good game but buy it for cheap so its not that much of a waste of money, if im disapointed with it, sweet, you have aided in the buying of a ps3 game, how does that make you feel?
awwwww crap my noodles are burning :(
ajiezer @ Sep 24th 2008 6:15PM
It would be interesting to know the list of bug fixes so I can decide if I'll play it again :P

You know, articles like this really annoy me.
This game is one of the biggest graphical powerhouses on the PS3, it simply is stunning. The gameplay is the best UT, or any deathmatch style game has to offer, but this article just treats the game like 3rd-party garbage.
Sometimes i'm ashamed to be reading this site.
Sentai_Powa @ Sep 24th 2008 6:29PM
Yeah well, what can ya do.
And yes, PS3fanboy, some of use ARE still playing this.
Just not against each other, but against Super Intelligent Bot that can kick our asses harder than any mere human ever could.
KinjiroSSD @ Sep 24th 2008 6:29PM
I still play UT3 off and on. It was a step backwards from UT2k4 in some regards but I still think its a pretty good game. I've been a fan since Unreal Tournament and played alot of twitch shooters before COD4-esque shooters became relevant.
Popfrogs @ Sep 24th 2008 6:42PM
The horrible lag ruined this game for me. Luckily an Ebayer gave $40 for it.

Thanx for the link
Gambit07 @ Sep 24th 2008 8:16PM
This thing was at $20 at my local Target and I didn't pick it up, instead I picked up Eye of Judgment for $35, excellent game, can't find any additional cards though...
Sentai_Powa @ Sep 24th 2008 9:48PM
Well, you missed out on a fun game.
But that is IMO.
Brute @ Sep 25th 2008 1:14AM
I have a problem, when I try to invite a friend to my game it says "package "core" content is not installed" or something like that, and it says the samething when I get an invite and I try to join. Does this have something to do with the patch? Because it has never happened before.
Anyways, UT3 i one of the best games on consoles right now and the mods are really great, it's a shame that almost nobody bought the game. Altough I think this UT3 is exactly as good as UT2004, if not better.
Yaster @ Sep 25th 2008 3:34AM
I play this game regularly. I have no intention of trading the game in, even when there are 2 top games of completely different genres coming out. There is still room for this great shooter and this patch is most welcome (and a little overdue as the PC equivilant came out ages ago)
retro @ Sep 25th 2008 7:16AM
I'm amazed at the number of negative comments. This is a fantastic game but only on-line. There are still players but many are clan based which need a password. The mod maps are great but nothing compared to the brilliance of SANDSTORM.
A great game esp if you like twitch shooters.
Kesi @ Sep 25th 2008 10:22AM
IMO, UT3 is a vastly underrated game. I've gone through a lot of the best games on PS3 (Resistance, CoD4, MGS4, GTA4, etc) and this is the only one I can't seem to put down. Personally I only play online and I've found that the lag issues have improved a great deal since when it first came out. While it's certainly not the largest online community out there, there are definitely a lot of good players and I never have trouble finding a game.
Unfortunately with Socom, R2, LBP, CoDW@W, and all the other fall/winter games coming out, I do think a lot of the good players will be jumping to other games..at least 4 a while
Neomorphix486 @ Sep 25th 2008 10:55AM
Glad to see they are still supporting us! I play this game at least 3 nights a week for about 2 hours a session and there definitely is no shortage of talented players out their still playing this. my 16 player matches i host fill up very fast on most nights.
Keefe @ Sep 25th 2008 12:03PM
I also really enjoy this game. Picked it up for 20 bucks and I've loaded a bunch of the mods. It's gorgeous and it has the same great UT gameplay. And I know it's frowned upon, but I bought a USB keyboard just so I could use keyboard/mouse on it. And I wish more PS3 games supported that because I'd rather just buy FPS games for PS3 since they look fantastic than upgrade my AGP video PC. But that's just me. Glad to see other UT3 fans out there.
[Mxl] Billy @ Sep 26th 2008 1:39PM
UT3 is a good game, it has cool graphics, great price ($19.99 on Target right now) and it does have people playing online.. I never have troubles to find a match....
