Burnout Paradise Trophies are
now live. Simply stick your disc in the tray and start playing and you'll be prompted to download the latest update. Check out the
full list of Trophies in order to prepare yourself for what you're in for. Unfortunately, it seems that trophies will
not be retroactive in
Burnout Paradise. You'll have to start a fresh game in order to acquire all these shiny prizes. We imagine some of you might be quite angry about that. Feel free to let loose in the comments but, please, don't shoot the messenger!

You got to be kidding me!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
There is no way, NO WAY, i'm playing it for another 6 months from the beginning to get trophies.
ARRRRRGH!
Sparx221 @ Sep 25th 2008 7:15AM
Wow 6 months? your pretty slow.
JoeTheBlow @ Sep 25th 2008 8:37AM
Unlike you, i have a life.
MrDaBucket @ Sep 25th 2008 9:07AM
Then don't get the trophies
duckhunt8 @ Sep 25th 2008 11:55AM
A life? Lol! I have college, work, friends and free time to juggle, which is what I'd count as "a life," personally.
I got to 100% in maybe... 2 weeks? Could have been 3. Still, it's so funny that you need an excuse to be a slow gamer. Especially one so lame as "I have a life." Next time I'd just stick with "I don't play very often."
RavenPaul @ Sep 25th 2008 3:21PM
I agree, no way I'm playing that again for some stupid trophies. The game isn't that great, and even the motorcycles are boring. I'm sick of all the trophy garbage. I think they're all ridiculous.
deadmeat3171 @ Sep 25th 2008 5:39AM
way to break a promise criterion do you know how long i have been working on that stuff still dont have a burn out licence
mutleymcladd @ Sep 25th 2008 5:42AM
True, downloaded and no trophies ! I am sure they said they would be retro as the save is linked to the PSN account ! Maybe something which will update in time ? or the patch is broken !
Swamp Donkey @ Sep 25th 2008 8:26AM
I think the idea is to keep people playing it, so their copies won't end up being sold used. People who own the game will keep playing to get trophies, and new players will either buy a $30 copy new, or download it for $30. Criterion and EA keep making money on an old game. Very smart business model.
JoeTheBlow @ Sep 25th 2008 5:45AM
READ THIS!!!!
http://www.criteriongames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8177
We may be ok, you absolutely need a fresh PSN profile save to get new trophies, but Burnout uses its own savefile too.
So back that up to a mem stick or something, delete your save and profile, make a new profile, reimport gamesave.
You won't get everything, some things are stored online and you can only do once, keep an eye on that thread for more info as they're only just testing it now.
alkeels @ Sep 25th 2008 5:49AM
Luckily for me i only picked this game up yesterday, but some people are going to be well Pi**ed, and they will definitely not want to start again from the beginning after 6+ months of play - Criterion need to sort that or they are going to have a huge uproar, and people will just stop playing the game altogether. :-(
rizza @ Sep 25th 2008 5:51AM
I did not get an update when I started the game up. Maybe this is a lie and patch isn't up yet. OR maybe it was released by mistake without retroactiveness not added!? I'm going to be pissed if I gotta do everything again... which I won't.
fid @ Sep 25th 2008 5:57AM
absolutely gutted
101% cars/101% bikes and nothing to show for it
was looking forward to my first platinum trophy :(
you have to delete your game save and start again if you want to get all the trophies
I think i'll be skipping these trophies, as I've already invested an inordinate amount of time in this game!
JoeTheBlow @ Sep 25th 2008 6:10AM
I am fucking STUNNED!
Forever they've been saying it would all be retroactive, and it would be pay-day for us all.
Now at the last SECOND they say, "oh wait, you'll have to play it for another 5 months, do everything again, to get the trophies".
What a MASSIVE fuckup, for the first time i'm very disappointed in Criterion. :-(
I.AM.IRON.MAN @ Sep 25th 2008 6:11AM
wow, just wow!
i don't have this game but i feel real bad for those of you who have continued to progress thru the game believing that you'd still get your throphies!!!
Criterion have been really good to it's customers with all the FREE addons, but this is a bit shit.
i know when i heard trophies were coming to ferrari challange i stopped playing it and waited for the patch...
ratedrsuperstar @ Sep 25th 2008 6:15AM
I already have 95% of the trophies so screw that.
Christian @ Sep 25th 2008 6:17AM
While I see how people are frustrated I guess at the end it was trophy policy which caused this and not Criterion not caring enough. I guess it turned out in the end that with retroactive trophies available one could just copy save games around and without any effort get almost all trophies.
JoeTheBlow @ Sep 25th 2008 7:13AM
They'd been proudly boasting for months that because of the way they linked your save game to your PSN account that was impossible, and so retroactive trophies were fine, like Warhawk did.
Looks like they messed up massively and didn't realise till the last second. Shoddy work for otherwise legendary devs.
stargateheaven @ Sep 25th 2008 7:30AM
They said they could still do it for burnout since save games are locked to your PSN account. This is why you can't find any saves on the net of the game anyway.
Chris @ Sep 25th 2008 6:17AM
Your entitled to a full refund on your purchase price of the Trophy patch, form a queue!
bassist @ Sep 25th 2008 6:18AM
"Burnout Paradise saves are locked to your profile. We had hoped to use this to retroactively award trophies, but we discovered during testing that this is not possible."
I guess they tried...bummer though.
JoeTheBlow @ Sep 25th 2008 6:18AM
They actually shouldn't have bothered, its just pissed off about a million burnout players.
If they had linked it to the new PSN version of Burnout that would have stung less.
What really hurts is that they guaranteed it, look back at previous posts and podcasts and every time they said "whatever you do now will get you a trophy in the future, it will be pay day".
Did they only test this out, like, yesterday?!
TeChNiC12s @ Sep 25th 2008 6:22AM
is anyone else not getting a prompt to update? bc im not.
Mana Knight @ Sep 25th 2008 6:31AM
I didn't get it either.
I know people love to put the blame on Sony for stuff, but it this case it's fully on Criterion. I remember Eric Lempel himself said in the Firmware 2.4 FAQ posting that trophies are not retroactive at all. That's what he said. Criterion themselves said they could do it. What makes me wonder is if at that time period (July 10th), whether Criterion even had any code written for trophy implementation back then (I bet not).
ThorSkaagi @ Sep 25th 2008 7:32AM
i'm not getting one either. WTF
warlock7 @ Sep 25th 2008 8:23AM
Nope. I haven't been offered to download it either.
calvin @ Sep 25th 2008 8:29AM
i'm not either. hopefully criterion pulled it and is fixing it to make the trophies retroactive! if they are then i don't mind waiting.
warlock7 @ Sep 25th 2008 8:36AM
More likely is that the update is going by region at a particular time of the day...
ftrunks @ Sep 25th 2008 6:22AM
This patch is complete bull then, I'm NOT going put all that time I did into this game again to get trophies.
I just F**king wish criterion had told us this from the start and not get us excited for something that we should have got already.
This trophy patch is moot!
warlock7 @ Sep 25th 2008 8:28AM
When the Warhawk trophies weren't retroactive you should have gotten the idea...
Driller-fil @ Sep 25th 2008 6:24AM
This is worse than buying an xbox....
im at 89% playing the game about 8 months and even skipt school today to donwload it as soon as its live and now this....
why they said hey our game will be retroactice buy it ???
JaffaBoy @ Sep 25th 2008 8:15AM
Mate I think you need to stop missing out on school time... it's 'skipped school' ...just joking with you :-)
This is frustrating and I am surprised with these guys that they didnt suss it out earlier
Kieran @ Sep 25th 2008 6:32AM
UK only so far, no US patch.
Also - the trophies are easy (well that's what everyone has complained about anyway) and as a seasoned Burnout player I expect to complete them all in less than 20 hours. There is literally nothing there that is time consuming apart from the licenses which you can earn with as little as 60% complete in the game.
Seriously, not a big deal - its a pain and criterion really should have communicated this beforehand, but meh - it'll be fun and you can still kepp your 203% save game backed up for later.
Laurens Holst @ Sep 25th 2008 10:10AM
I think the issue that people are having is (at least the article suggests) that you actually have to delete your savegame and start from scratch to get the trophies. That is, you can’t get them by just doing the trophy requirements again on your existing save. Not sure whether that is true, but that’s what I’m reading.
Zampano @ Sep 25th 2008 2:22PM
True, Kieran, the requirements for getting the trophies are not that hard, but since your save is tied to your PSN ID, if I want my B:P trophies to be linked to the account I've had since launch (and where all of my other trophies live), I would have to delete my hard-earned 100% completion and start over from scratch. All of the Stunt Runs, Marked Mans, Road Rules, Showtimes...EVERYTHING. That is WAY harder than getting the trophies.
That said, I wish people would be more fair with Criterion - they have given us fans an unprecedented amount of totally free DLC, and not just new skins, but truly new content. I agree that they must have known about this before today, and I'm surprised that they didn't make an announcement sooner (they had to know that not doing so wouldn't go over too well), but with the state of the world/economy/election here in the US, whether or not trophies in a game are retroactive is pretty effing unimportant.
djhsecondnature @ Sep 25th 2008 6:33AM
The thing that has annoyed everyone including myself is that they guarenteed that they would be retroactive, and they were so chuffed with themselves for it. They have obviously known for some time that they couldn't but decided not to inform people. I got to 102% yesterday and now I have to start over, yeah I'm pissed.
El_Horno @ Sep 25th 2008 6:34AM
I did no get the Unchartd trophies as I was not doing everything all over again.
Bollocks if I will do the same for this. After being so happy with Criterion due to the amount of free content, the fact they stated the trophies would be retroactive when they are not leaves a sour taste in my mouth...
Whoppy @ Sep 25th 2008 6:35AM
:D
Whorepigs. I thought I was going to get my first platinum trophy. Don't know if I can be arsed to redo the whole lot though :(
Would've been nice if they had said earlier.....
lord_of_valhalla @ Sep 25th 2008 6:53AM
I just lost all respect in Criterion. Criterion up untill this point were pushing the game industry forward with free dlc, but they ruined everything with this. They obviously haven't realised how may hours people have put into this game!!!
Poor show!!!
deaftly @ Sep 25th 2008 1:33PM
oh shut up, they didn't even have to give us trophies in the first place.
Driller-fil @ Sep 25th 2008 6:56AM
is there a way to backup delete and replace the save to ehave trophies?
Nick @ Sep 25th 2008 7:03AM
Oh come on guys, your all idiots (except people not complaining), they have given more than enough free content for nothing - other companies would charge atleast 3.99 for adding in motorbikes etc and yet they hit one little glitch, and unable to fulfil a promise and you jump on them like this, I for one hope they never do free DLC again as none of you guys deserve it!!!
rainking187 @ Sep 25th 2008 7:29AM
The problem is that unless they just tested it yesterday they've known for a while they couldn't do this. Never felt the need to mention it until the update came out. If they had mentioned that they had tried but couldn't do it a lot earlier I'd be less mad right now.
djhsecondnature @ Sep 25th 2008 9:08AM
Yeah it's mainly the fact that they were like "we're offering retroactive trophies!". But they're not and they've known for a while.
davo @ Sep 25th 2008 7:05AM
ahwell... they have given us the best and most FREE downloadable content than any other game, I'm not going to complain about this. I just wish other companies would be as good to their games as criterion have been with burnout.
sam @ Sep 25th 2008 7:05AM
kk gonna break the disc in half
cheviot2 @ Sep 25th 2008 5:29PM
I already did.
Random Hangman @ Sep 25th 2008 7:16AM
Hmm... bit of a change in attitude from the last time, everyone.
"We love Criterion", "Amazing amount of FREE content" etc etc. Now, they offer a download that really doesn't make any difference (let's face it, trophies are only there to challenge yourselves or show off to mates) and everyone suddenly hates them because it's not retroactive! They've offered massive additional content that most other devs would have charged you for!
Fickle, people... very fickle.
rizza @ Sep 25th 2008 7:37AM
1. The bike patch screwed up all my car events. Everything thing I got was erased except %complete.
2. Trophies being retroactive was a lie.
3. They could have given us a heads up that they weren't retroactive before we all got 101% bikes.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Sep 25th 2008 11:22AM
It's not so much about the trophies themselves; I can deal with that and will have to decide if I want to replay the entire game. No biggie.
The problem is this team that has treated their fanbase so well these past few months lied to us right up to the release date of this patch.
