Rumor: WipEout HD crashing for users with large friend lists

There's no word on a fix, other than signing out of the PlayStation Network while you're playing. Obviously, this will prevent you from playing online. PlayStation Forum moderators are looking into the issue as a matter of urgency and hopefully we'll see a solution soon. We've experienced the freezing ourselves (and yes, our friends list is massive, thanks for asking), but an official cause hasn't been confirmed by anything other than anecdotal evidence at this stage.

I have a large psn list of friends, far more than 50... I have had no issues oining or hosting.
The only issue I have found is if you are signed out of the psn when in wipeout and try to go online it seems to always freeze my ps3 when trying to signin. but i only disconnect if my dsl goes out for a bit.

Its an evil plan from the creators... they want you to choose their game instead of your friends so you have no one to go to on Friday night, instead just play alone and buy more games

if you are getting crashes delete some friends or play offline (signed out of the psn)
you can still get trophies whilst not signed in

I've got near a 100 friends and this game freezes constantly.
I don't even have to go to Online and it will freeze.
So.....I went out a picked up Buzz until a fix is found for Wipeout HD.

What is this whole thing about having 50+ friends, is this like having 1500+ Facebook/Myspace friends?
I have one friend with a PS3 and he doesn't even play online that much.

I got it today, and i have about 50 people on my friends list.
I have had the odd occasion where the game pauses mid race for about a second, then carries on. online and offline.

This has happened on many titles, Team Fortress 2, the psn poker to name a couple.
Why don't the producers check these things out, instead of given as half finished products that need patching. Can we have free map pack for our trouble?

My ps3 has one user on the buddy list lol and it locked up in the attraction mode.

i have about 70-80 friends on the PSN and i have only been able to play one race because it keeps freezing on me (even while i'm in the menus)

WipeoutHD crashed the first three times I did anything in the menus with my main 60+ friend PSN account, but it worked fine when I switched to an alt account on my system.

This game has annoyed me already...first it took a millenia to download, now it wont even let me past the menu screen without freeeeezin'!

Keeps freezing in the menu for me too now. Was fine yesterday. Over 50 people on my friend list and also lots of music on the hard drive. I have the 60GB PS3 with BC.

It has crashed\locked up on me 4 times now. I do have over 50 friends on friendlist. Help... I guess I will go check out Buzz or head back to VP:TIP on XBox360. Sony, I am so trying to maintain lovin my dust collecting, shiny PS3 device...

Yes, mine crash too. I have 98 people on my friends list! So I had to play on my UK account, smh. I want to play on my US account w/ my friends who bought it too, so SONY fix it ASAP!

Have less then 10 friends and crashes. I am using a random playlist for audio.
