Tetris falls into LittleBigPlanet
It's amazing the kind of games people can create in LittleBigPlanet. You can do so much more than platforming -- you can do racing too! And now, it appears you can also recreate Tetris, the classic Russian puzzle game. Just watch this video to see!

Dahk @ Sep 25th 2008 11:25PM
DOOD THATS FRIGGIN AWESOME.
Can you program those things to like disappear when a row gets filled? How the heck do you do that?
Averna @ Sep 26th 2008 4:04AM
CHRIST! That is an awful lot of wires. Goes to show that we are going to see some VERY interesting things from the community. All my ideas just got stomped by watching this :(
Happy_man @ Sep 25th 2008 11:34PM
That was just awesome, I wonder if that was in the game or if it was user created.
AlterEgo @ Sep 25th 2008 11:48PM
user-created
Neil @ Sep 25th 2008 11:46PM
I don't know, that level kinda looked more tedious than fun.
Popfrogs @ Sep 26th 2008 12:25AM
Looks like a cool proof-of-concept to me.
ryan @ Sep 26th 2008 12:11AM
yeah, it looked kinda sloppy and i can't see playing it beyond the length of this trailer. but at least it's a bit more functional than Human Tetris. :P
Neil @ Sep 26th 2008 12:23AM
Hehe....true. lol
AlterEgo @ Sep 26th 2008 1:32AM
You have to understand...the beta has only been available for a few days. This guy has made this in less than 2-3 days. AND it's only the beta....which MM has said that it's an old build and missing a lot of features that'll be available in the retail version.
It just shows the possibilities and an outlook on things to expect when people put their minds to it.
Have you seen any other levels? There's some reallllly unique stuff there. =]
LatinoLA1 @ Sep 25th 2008 11:48PM
That is pretty cool, seems like there really getting a lot more things out of this game then what people though it would only be, which was just stages you go through...
SnazzyD @ Sep 26th 2008 9:27AM
"more than what people thought it would be"? Dude, this game has been wowing people for well over a year now due to its very open-ended nature and nearly limitless possibilities.
Remember that the beta hasn't even been out for 2 days and people are creating some pretty cool things. Imagine how good the levels are gonna be 6 months from now!!
francisco @ Sep 25th 2008 11:54PM
coool!
ryan @ Sep 26th 2008 12:17AM
eh, it's kinda cool i guess. expected. like every Mario world 1-1 level that will be made on launch day.
personally, i can't wait to download people's own interactive pop-up fables and quests. i'm no creative genius but i can see people doing some amazing things with this.
Daniel @ Sep 26th 2008 12:32AM
agreed, this is truly cool...this game is going to be so great
zecomer27 @ Sep 26th 2008 12:19AM
omg tt's really COOL XD
....but the control seems to be clumsy
Whubbsie @ Sep 26th 2008 12:31AM
Now that impressed me 100 times more than the design school made thing, can I still get beta codes from eurogamer? I need to play this now.
Gervin @ Sep 26th 2008 10:50AM
The design school level stunk in my opinion. A very ugly Shadow of the Colossus level? (Emphasis on 'very ugly').
My only reservation on this game is that I'm neither talented, imaginative, nor patient enough to create the levels I'd want. THis game will frustrate me to no end reminding me of my own inadequacies. :)
Philip @ Sep 26th 2008 12:35AM
awesome background music
cookie @ Sep 26th 2008 1:07AM
this dude sucks at tetris!
but yes this is pretty awesome...
Riseer @ Sep 26th 2008 12:58AM
Amazing guess you can do whatever you want in LBP.Will pick this up for sure, got some good ideas what to make and my ps eye ready to help.Way to go MM keep it up.They will prob keep it updated too add new things in it.
KingKRule @ Sep 26th 2008 1:13AM
So was that music in the game or was that imported into the game? cause as a musician I'd love to put my songs into levels I've created in LBP, but from my research thats not possible. Adding my own sound track would make my levels so much more epic
chimaera9 @ Sep 26th 2008 1:36AM
I've been wondering the same thing, because I'm a musician also and would very much like to put some custom tracks into this. Where did you read that you couldn't?
Thomas @ Sep 26th 2008 4:03AM
I heard that this could be possible with a future update but was not top priority at the moment. Seems to be kind of problematic too i think. Maybe the game has to re-encode the mp3-track to make a small sound file within the level files you have to download. But we know nothing - ask the developers :-)
Averna @ Sep 26th 2008 4:06AM
I think it was constructed one note at a time, which explains why it is so disjointed and short.
In the interview on the psblog *gag* the art director mentioned that one of the sounds people can use is a kick drum, so I would imagine there are other samples you can use to make your own music/effects/etc
Eggy @ Sep 26th 2008 5:33AM
The tones are created with a "machine" build in LBP. Someone on neogaf posted highres pictures of the contraption. It's not background music.
Amiculi @ Sep 26th 2008 9:31AM
Looking at the image linked in a previous comment, it looks as though the wheel across the bottom is what's producing the music. With that in mind it seems wholy possible to create far more complex music in a similar fashion assuming you had the patience to do multiple wheels. Doing something more complex than a single loop would be a pretty huge endeavor I think.
KingKRule @ Sep 26th 2008 6:16PM
It may not be the way I would like, but it looks like this wheel thing is probably the only legal solution we'll be getting. Better then nothing I guess.
Nate @ Sep 26th 2008 8:15AM
that... is amazing
wtf @ Sep 26th 2008 8:48AM
Ew. Who wants to play a frustratingly slow game of Tetris on this thing? Not me. Brownie points for effort though.
SnazzyD @ Sep 26th 2008 10:13AM
So don't! There will be hundreds, if not thousands of new levels every time you boot up the game. I would love to give it a try, and see it more as a POC of what can be done.
That's the thing about this game, you get inspired by features that others have incorporated, and if they decide to share the object you can re-engineer it yourself in your own levels.
As for the music, you cannot at this point import and use your own. The biggest issue has to be file size, and we all know how huge sub-optimized audio files can be. Instead, you get a range of sounds and music to play with using a re-mixer incorporated into the game, with sound/music events triggered by a number of things such as proximity or contact, etc.
This is nothing short of sheer brilliance...
nakedatthecomp @ Sep 26th 2008 7:42PM
...Tetris is Russian?!
Fane @ Sep 27th 2008 4:28PM
Da.
Caden @ Sep 27th 2008 4:41PM
haha thats what i was thinking!!! the lbp site said beta's on monday, do you think that thay are going to be on lbp site or eurogamer again?
