MGS4's Payton joins a different kind of 'MGS'
That particular "MGS" we refer to would just so happen to be Microsoft Game Studios. The rumors regarding Payton's shift from Metal Gear games at Kojima Productions to work on a new Halo title are true -- well, half true.
Speaking to Edge Online, Microsoft bigwig Phil Spencer sets the story straight noting that Payton, along with other industry heavy-hitters, have been initiated into the Microsoft fold. Meanwhile, the other half of the rumor regarding Payton directing a new Halo game is still yet to be proven. A rep had said that the team is currently working only "on upcoming and existing Halo games." So, what does this all mean for you PS3 Fanboy readers? What do you care? Well, if you've grown to like Ryan Payton for his stint on the Hideoblog podcasts and all the work he's done for MGS4, then you'll have to say your good-byes -- he's batting for the other team now and it looks like they're going to be keeping him quite busy. We still wish Ryan the best of luck.

I believe the phrase goes along the lines of:
"Weak....sauce."

Good games are good games. I'm not a big believer in purchasing games based on great game designers. A rushed schedule could kill the end product in one fell swoop. I don't mean to dismiss his or anyone's credentials or accomplishments, I just feel upper management can kill a talent in the years long development process. That said games to me are an art and all benefit from great art regardless of the medium (ps3, wii, x360)...I just don't have the time to take in all 3 art froms ;)

Why do they want him? So they can make Halo a great game like MGS? That will never happen, Halo can't be good, there's just to much crap, and the story could have been so much better.
Well, at least I'm glad for Payton.
kevin @ Oct 1st 2008 3:55PM

As much as we don't like it, it can't be helped. The man has to be in Washington and he has to work, unless he wants to commit professional suicide.
DeathroW @ Oct 1st 2008 4:08PM
"Batting for the other team" ? Uh, Kojima productions are not on anyones side - mainly just for the metal gear solid games since they did grow mainly on the playstations.
Majed Athab @ Oct 1st 2008 4:09PM
The games he's mostly worked on are PS3 and PSP exclusives. His fanbase pretty much lies tied in with Sony fans. Anyway, the man's gotta expand. Props.
NightHawk @ Oct 1st 2008 4:08PM
Benedict Arnold!!! I better not see anything from the Metal Gear Solid Series in a M$ game or else!!!
Popfrogs @ Oct 1st 2008 4:18PM
Wow, Microsoft is buying project managers now too?
Is there anything they _can't_ buy?

Well one thing i think i read is that his mom or someone in his family was sick or he wanted to be closer to home. So this could just be a simple move where M$ offered him a job that was close to home and Sony couldnt do that.
Shinogu @ Oct 1st 2008 4:37PM
Nice to hear he's back into games, shame it's locked to another platform, even bigger shame it's on Halo. Good luck, Payton.

Always funny to see people get upset over things they don't think through. Real life isn't dictated by fanboy reactions folks, people take jobs where they are available and will reward them with good pay.
I would love to see the fanboy mentality stop any of you from taking a job. Hell, each of you "M$" haters would take a job from them in a heartbeat if it paid well and gave you a good life. Here comes the "No I wouldn't!" b.s.
fiziks @ Oct 1st 2008 4:54PM
agreed, I don't like the microsoft but I'd contribute all my professional knowledge toward their products and the longevity of their company if they hired me
cwyze23 @ Oct 1st 2008 5:35PM
actually There reactions aren't as bad as i thought it would b Good luck 2 Payton MGS to MGS Lol
KarlW @ Oct 1st 2008 4:55PM
Maybe now he can tell us why MGS4 doesn't have trophies.
AJ_3 @ Oct 1st 2008 5:45PM
+1
cwyze23 @ Oct 1st 2008 5:37PM
sorry I meant *their*
Dahk @ Oct 1st 2008 5:39PM
I think they might get him to help expand into the Japanese sector, since Microsoft has stated that theyre gonna step up their Jap game. Heck, X360s are out-selling PS3s these couple weeks lol.
And he's got good contacts, and probably good product marketing experience way over there. So props to him.
zecomer27 @ Oct 1st 2008 8:45PM
oh well....at least it isn't kojima lol XD
dandan @ Oct 1st 2008 9:14PM
He is not Kojima. Who cares
Doug @ Oct 1st 2008 9:25PM
What you expect from an american.
magicianoffear @ Oct 2nd 2008 9:38AM
Oh well, not a big loss really. Yes he helped improve MGS4 but he was not what made MGS4 as great as it is. That is all Kojima and his team, he was a part of it and important for what he brought to the team but alone he does not count for very much.
