MTV Games clarifies AC/DC Rock Band Track Pack details

Speaking to Variety, Paul DeGooyer of MTV Games clarified a couple of elements concerning the AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack. The game will be available exclusively at Walmart. The tracks are exclusive to Rock Band for "a term" but no specific timetable has been set. AC/DC members won't appear as avatars in the game, you'll just be covering the songs.
The game will feature partial functionality when compared to the other Rock Band titles: "All four instruments (guitar, bass, drums, mic) are used, you can "tour" through all 18 songs on your own or in a group, there are score duels and tug of war. However, there's no online capability ... In addition, there's no character creator."
Now we have some good news and some bad news. The good news is, all the songs on the AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack can be ripped onto the PS3's hard drive, free of charge. They will now function like any other tracks you have downloaded from the PS Store (including online capabilities). The bad news is, you can transfer the songs once. This is done so you can't simply share the disc with your friends or resell the disc once you have transferred the tracks.

Why is this not DLC?
HaloEleven @ Oct 1st 2008 4:57PM
Probably due to AC/DC's marketing alliance with Wal-Mart. Their new album will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart too.

wow they just ruined my plans... :(

I want this, but if it $40 I do not know and rip it once ehh
Brett from Atlanta @ Oct 1st 2008 6:00PM
Keep your eye on your local blockbuster, if they have this, camp out and grab it and use the rip feature before anyone else does. 3 dollar acdc live DLC
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 1st 2008 10:53PM
No, don't look out for your local Blockbuster. Look out for the entry you're commenting on, the one that says that it's exclusive to Walmart (and also Sam's Club).

So what happens if your ps3 breaks?
JSK @ Oct 1st 2008 6:06PM
Are these two statements contradictory? Someone wanna clarify this?
"However, there's no online capability"
vs.
(including online capabilities)
Are these tracks playable online or not if other users have them?
iamkid @ Oct 1st 2008 6:32PM
not exactly, no. it says including online capabilities because its saying the tracks function the same as ones you download off of the psn, although im not sure how online capabilities are related :/
...so maybe it is. dunno

I think if you're playing with a friend, you both (/all) have to have the exclusive songs (be it DLC, or this disc...)
I know I'm not able to play songs that I've downloaded that my friend hasn't, whenever we're playing online, so I imagine that this will work the same way.
iamkid @ Oct 1st 2008 6:31PM
so is this just sort of like a rock band filler, like GH rocks the 80s and aerosmith? if so, wouldnt it have made more sense to release it before RB 2 came out?
Kahuna @ Oct 1st 2008 7:27PM
It doesn't look like its a bad news that ripped only one time thing. It looks prettry fair to me...
Josh @ Oct 1st 2008 7:38PM
I don't really care that I can only rip it once, I more than likely won't rip it anyway, just to save HD space. I'm still buying it, I've wanted some AC/DC to play on RockBand forever, and this is way more than I ever expected, I'm super excited about it.
RavenPaul @ Oct 1st 2008 9:34PM
This is garbage. They don't have enough good songs for me to buy a disc. I'd download 2 or 3 if they ever release it for DLC. Damn this exclusive rights bull$h!t. And good for walmart for getting exclusive Cd rights, who buys Cd's anymore?
davebo @ Oct 1st 2008 11:26PM
I really love Rock Band and love to support their business model with good DLC, but unfortunately AC/DC's lawyers or whoever has gotten in the way and mucked up what would be an otherwise great addition to this franchise. I'd like a fair amount of those songs, but I'm not going to be pressured into buying the songs I don't care about if I know I'll be screwed if the hard drive craps out or gets a bad sector one day.
nakedatthecomp @ Oct 1st 2008 10:48PM
I wonder how much I'd get back for it if I bought it at EB games, ripped it, and returned it right away....
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 1st 2008 10:52PM
You wouldn't get any back, since you couldn't even get it there. Read the article, it's exclusive to Walmart and Sam's Club.
Damian @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:42PM
How are you screwed if your hard drive craps out? You can still play the songs off the disc, you just won't be able to rip them again after the first time so you're not out anything.
