How does an old movie on blu-ray work? I mean even with upsacaling it's still an old movie. How would there be any difference between a dvd or blu-ray old film? Rip off or what?
kevin @ Oct 5th 2008 9:31PM
they restore all the pixels that the old camera left out and make them into HD goodness.
Kamma @ Oct 8th 2008 1:28AM
I'm not sure exactly how it works, but they're definitely not a rip-off. Watching 2001 A Space Odyssey in HD was amazing.
ModeMan101 @ Oct 5th 2008 9:45PM
Depending on whether or not an adequate HD film transfer master already exists (most major DVD releases have been mastered in HD for several years now)... old movie gets transferred from film at 2K (sometimes 4K) resolution, is mastered onto HD archival/broadcast format tape, BD master file is created from that.
Galley @ Oct 5th 2008 10:58PM
Film is higher resolution than even 1080p.
Deviation @ Oct 5th 2008 11:10PM
35mm film has a resolution somewhere north of 4,000 lines, well over 1080p. Well preserved older films look spectacular in HD.
Popfrogs @ Oct 6th 2008 9:15AM
Deviation pretty much nailed it here. I can't add anything else...film resolution is super high on quality stock. Some films transfer better than others. For example, all of the Kubrick films destroy films like Blazing Saddles in quality. BS used junk stock to begin with, a cheap film, physically, so the transfer looks like crap.
leatherface @ Oct 6th 2008 1:39PM
guys, don't forget about the 120hz feature. that takes your Hd experience to another level. it feels like your watching it live.
Jeffy @ Oct 5th 2008 9:18PM
the happening was absolutely horrible YUCK!
Overgauss @ Oct 6th 2008 1:58PM
Would you go so far as to call it the Crappening?
Byron517 @ Oct 5th 2008 9:19PM

Wayne @ Oct 5th 2008 9:27PM
Whoops, someone left a bold tag open somewhere!
The_Punisher (MR ESC NOOOOO) @ Oct 6th 2008 12:36AM
Why is the rest of the stie bold today? Odd....
ModeMan101 @ Oct 5th 2008 9:36PM
Um, I liked Lady In The Water...
Lulu @ Oct 5th 2008 9:56PM
So did I. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.
georgel @ Oct 5th 2008 10:33PM
There is also people that actually like bush and mccain and palin too so anythings possible..lol actually i havent seen the happening or lady in the water so i cant say but my point is a lot of people like stupid movies too, thats why they exist.
DrunkRaba @ Oct 5th 2008 10:12PM
Loved the original The Amityville Horror, good creepy movie.
Ghost inthe Shell @ Oct 5th 2008 10:12PM
omg the Happening had to be the worst movie i have seen. Well maybe not the worst but it was close. it had so much potential and then all of a sudden ... yah its the plants . Are you kidding me it was like watching the ep of south park were global warming broke the damn lol
really plants any way im so happy interview with the vampire is out on blue ray i was just thinking about that movie. i have a question to every one though what are you guys doing with your dvd collection i seem to be getting movies i already own and i just end up giving alot of my movies to friends or what ever i would;t mind getting some money for them but i dont think theres any place that gives a decent amount .
if any one has any suggestions that would be grate
ill trooper @ Oct 6th 2008 1:44AM
Yeah, that's what we on the internet call a spoiler. Sort of a hack move to say a film sucks and then talk about the main plot twist that might have kept it interesting for those who haven't seen it yet.
ryan @ Oct 6th 2008 2:35AM
^
believe me, he was doing everyone who hasn't seen it a service. lol.
i loved Unbreakable and (most of) Signs, but that's about it for my M. list.
oglabogla @ Oct 5th 2008 10:53PM
I can agree on the happening but why does ps3fanboy always have the habit of forcing their opinions down on people? Adam Sandler is stale, who cares let people make their own judgement. Fracture is mediocre, who cares let people make their own judgement. As I see it this website is increasingly becoming a marketing tool...
jarhead906 @ Oct 8th 2008 3:40PM
But Fracture IS mediocre.
That's why there are thousands of video game review sites. There are certain criteria to meet in a game for it to be good. However, that still doesn't stop people that get off to piss poor quality from enjoying a game.
Atomu @ Oct 6th 2008 9:14AM
A marketing tool to get you to NOT buy movies? That makes no sense haha. I don't see anyting wrong with them highlighting a few of the gems. Everything they said is true.
Adam sandler is the only funny thing about Zohan, and if you don't like his comedy you won't like it. Interview is a classic, as is Carrie. And sleeping beauty is much older than other disney movies, so its true that many kingdom hearts fans don't know where she's from. (like my younger brother).
Maybe if they were telling bullshit like "THE HAPPENEING WAS THE GREATIST MOVIE OF OUR GENERATION, GO BUY IT NOW, THEN BUY IT AGAIN!" I could understad you getting so upset.
PSPDog @ Oct 5th 2008 11:05PM
I'll be picking up Sleeping Beauty. My daughter loves Princess Aurora.
Valr @ Oct 5th 2008 11:23PM
I don't understand the negativity towards The Happening. It was IMO one of the better movies of '08, as compared to Zohan, Meet Dave, Mirrors, upon others I don't bother to remember because they were so bad. Just because it's a NEW idea, people call it crap. I guess thriller/horror movies should just continue with mindless gore.
Nick @ Oct 6th 2008 12:47AM
It was a terrible movie. The "plot twist" was given right away and it was just a shameless environmental awareness movie. The acting was shoddy and there was nothing thought-provoking about it. It was a 90 minute borefest and thus a waste of $7.50.
Valr @ Oct 6th 2008 10:07AM
If you want a borefest, go see Blindness.
jq71586 @ Oct 5th 2008 11:31PM
How is God's name did The Happening get its picture up there over Sleeping Beauty?
Not able to find a blu-ray artwork pic of You don't mess with the Zohan?
Alex Gockman @ Oct 5th 2008 11:42PM
I don not know why you want to make Jesus inappropriate. He died for your sins. Why do you insult His name?
Deadpool @ Oct 6th 2008 2:16AM
Yeah I agree. Just because someone has a change of belief like Anne Rice or a change of mental stability like Tom Cruise doesn't mean you can bash them for it.
By the way...I had no idea that was Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. No idea...till the end credits. I was thinking it was Jamie Kennedy and his wackyness again.
solidslack @ Oct 6th 2008 2:16AM
Seriously, man? You're going to get uppity about Christ on a videogame blog comment section? Shouldn't you be handing out Bibles or hanging around abortion clinics with picket signs?
ryan @ Oct 6th 2008 2:40AM
Alan didn't insult His name. Anne Rice wrote about Vampires before and now she is writing about Him.
but mentioning His name in the same sentence as, oh say, Tom Cruise, yeah I can see that as kinda insulting. lol.
Atomu @ Oct 6th 2008 3:48AM
BaZING!
shadyplaya @ Oct 6th 2008 3:15AM
hey georgel,
a lot of stupid people hate good movies too. your point is irrelevant.
Jayme @ Oct 6th 2008 7:24AM
Nick
So i guess you did not like cloverfield.
devesto @ Oct 6th 2008 9:11AM
A few of those movies were really awesome.
The happening was quite touching, especially during the park scene. Seeing so many people frozen was quite a different experience.
There was a funny bit in the happening though, at the very end, at the scene in France. The park is shown with a lot of people shown, only 2 people are moving, everyone else is frozen, even someone on a bicycle :) the bicycle can be seen in the back and is not moving forward or back and is frozen with the rider on it, however for some reason it is not falling on either side :D
Was very disappointed when I saw that though
j.howlett @ Oct 6th 2008 12:31PM
i liked the happening, mark's character got on my nerves a little but that was his character. lady in the water was a good story that just needed some refining. M Night tells these stories that people seem to overlook in search of the twist.
j.howlett @ Oct 6th 2008 12:37PM
sinbad, amityville, and beetlejuice are good movies. i remember the first time i saw faces of death. the collections are good this week.
Ether02 @ Oct 6th 2008 1:11PM
I like the zohan it had me laughing the whole movie. I guess I am a adam sandler fan water boy, little nickey, and the wedding singer were hilarious too me.
BlingOnMyWrist @ Oct 6th 2008 4:27PM
I hope they're paying you to watch The Happening.
What a retarded movie...
