PSP Brite boxart shows direct PSP Store

This is the boxart for the PSP Brite Limited Edition 4GB memory stick pack. Notice anything interesting? PS3 owners among you might recognise two things. Firstly, the PSN logo, which the PSP has previously not been associated with. Secondly, the screen shows the PSN Store. The actual PSN store, not the PC-based website. Interesting. That means we should be seeing the direct PSP store before this bundle releases on November 30th. Will we be hearing an announcement regarding the exact release date for the WI-FI based store directly on the PSP soon? With the Tokyo Game Show just around the corner, it's a strong possibility.

The wifi store was announced with the ps3-linked infrastructure for ad-hoc games and all that other jazz at like E3 or something, wasn't it? I've known about it for a while :-/
andwhyisit @ Oct 5th 2008 8:42PM
The Wi-Fi store has a reputation that comes near the likes of Starcraft Ghost and Duke Nukem Forever. No-one will believe it is being released until it is actually released.

Yes, as the news post points out (and links to) the direct psp store was announced some time ago. The post is for the screenshot of the store.
Although I personally wont use it, hopefully the direct store leads to more users on the store and in turn, better updates (im looking at you SCEE).
Kspraydad @ Oct 5th 2008 9:04PM
The POINT isn't that the store is news...it is that the store is likely to be inplace by launch of the PSPBrite.
MBO @ Oct 5th 2008 8:58PM
That guy is freaky.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Oct 6th 2008 9:17AM
I think he's jolly.

Here's hoping for a Friends category with the same Message Box you'd access on your PS3 account along with friends list. In fact, with the built-in mic (or Skype mic), what about voice chat PSP-to-PSP? Or even video chat with the Go!Cam/Chotto Shot? They DID talk about a single sign-on (I think that was the term) for all PS media. If you can sign into your PSN account, what about seeing your PS3 Trophies? In fact, what about PSP Trophies?
Sorry, guys. Don't worry, I pinched myself and woke up from that dream.
vipre77 @ Oct 5th 2008 9:58PM
I like to call this the PSP Lite Brite. Remember the Lite Brite? Those sucked.
Ben @ Oct 5th 2008 11:21PM
Dude those were totally my 4-year-old pastimes.
Gurbinder @ Oct 6th 2008 10:27PM
lite brite-- making things with liteeeee. I still remember that commercial from a long time ago. LOL.
TM @ Oct 5th 2008 11:36PM
is the store a brite-only feature, or will it work for psp 1000 and 2000 models?
andwhyisit @ Oct 6th 2008 1:47AM
There are no differences in specs, so I would expect it to work on the slim. As for working on the phat, that is yet to be seen.
daniel-kun @ Oct 6th 2008 1:18AM
I wonder what direct access is good for when there's no content...
First things first, dudes.
Wazzim @ Oct 6th 2008 3:24AM
Yeah, I was thinking about that too. Sony is just so......weird this gen
Kspraydad @ Oct 6th 2008 7:30AM
Direct download of movies?
Hashbrown Hunter @ Oct 6th 2008 9:20AM
Well since this way nearly every PSP user will know that a PS Store actually exists, I'm sure traffic will build up. I think the PC Store was pretty much a beta and a small stepping stone to what they want to actually do with the PSP.
Plus the fact that Sony included a 4GB stick this time around means that they expect their users to download pretty heavily.
drepsp @ Oct 6th 2008 7:22AM
YES! Go Sony go! Release the PSP Store!
Christopher @ Oct 6th 2008 9:04AM
Really? Seriously? I mean how many people here are REALLY HINDERED from buying games from the PS store because they don't either already have a PC or PS3 to connect to it with. I could understand the PS3, but just about everybody at least has an old PC available, so i still don't see why this is big news.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Oct 6th 2008 9:17AM
It's a LOT more convenient Christopher. Most people don't want to have to use their PC just to download something for their PSP.
Pilch @ Oct 6th 2008 9:38AM
@ Christopher: I use a Mac, which means I haven't been able to use the PC store so far. I've been waiting for a long time for this for.
I'd like to sat 'it's about time', but I won't say it until I see it running on my PSP.
drepsp @ Oct 6th 2008 3:28PM
Uhh chris i have both a PC and PS3 im using my PS3 right know replying to your message. And i want a PSP Store because i don't want to use My PC or PS3
Hashbrown Hunter @ Oct 6th 2008 9:07AM
Am I the only one that is absolutely relieved and ecstatic that it looks to be software-based and not web-based?
THANK YOU SONY! (now all you have to do is release it)
trystero @ Oct 6th 2008 10:16AM
Hmm, good point. It does look software based. This, I think, would make it more likely to work on all PSP's, even the more memory limited original.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Oct 6th 2008 10:08PM
Which is totally fucking awesome! :D
Hashbrown Hunter @ Oct 6th 2008 2:54PM

I don't believe that the Nov. 30 release date that Amazon has posted has been confirmed. Any idea when the actual release day is? Pretty sure that they're not gonna release this badboy on a Sunday...
Hashbrown Hunter @ Oct 6th 2008 2:58PM
http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/psp-3000-north-american-details/
The 4GB pack is set to release in November, but there's no specific date attached, so maybe Amazon let the cat out of the bag?
LokeSTL @ Oct 6th 2008 3:16PM
When Amazon doesn't know, they pick the last day of the release month. If you noticed on the R&C bundle, it was first listed as Oct 31 then corrected when the release date was confirmed. When I called Sony to see if they had an actual release date yet for the 4GB bundle, they said that neither of the dates for either of the bundles is official. I argued with them about how their press release stated otherwise and was told that a press release will come out in the next couple of weeks stating these bundles' "actual" release dates. Guess we'll just have to wait and see if the R&C bundle comes out on time. I hope they don't wait long to release the 4gb bundle, I've already pre-ordered mine.

Hashbrown Hunter @ Oct 6th 2008 10:09PM
...you have two separate accounts don't you? Be wise not to post like this on Joystiq or they will massacre your internet credibility.
LokeSTL @ Oct 7th 2008 9:23AM
Had trouble setting up my account. For some reason it defaulted to the first part of my email the first time, but didn't change to "LokeSTL" on my first comment after I changed it in my account.
iNsaneMartyr @ Oct 6th 2008 2:47PM
Just think, if thier going to package a 4Gb Pro Duo, and promote the Playstation Store, why would there not be speculation on it being released as a firmware update.
Firmware 4.20 will be released on the PSP Brite, who's to say that it wont be implicated?.
If that boxart is real, expect what it promotes.
As for me, CFW FTW, Who needs a Store when its all free anyways ?
David Black @ Oct 6th 2008 10:11PM
People like you make my soul hurt. So let me ask you this, since it is all "free", when was the last time you went into an electronic store and stuffed your pockets with all the UMDs you want? Oh, that's right, you wouldn't do that because then your nandy-pandy ass would get rocked in your local jail....But when you can hide behind a computer then why not?
Hashbrown Hunter @ Oct 6th 2008 2:55PM
Who cares if there's a black guy on the box??? I don't see him as the color on his skin, why should anyone else?
Sunny @ Oct 6th 2008 3:02PM
This just in... Electronics stores all throughout the south go out of business due to all the racist idiots refusing to buy the new PSP. Thanks, Sony!
Gurbinder @ Oct 6th 2008 10:28PM
not cool man thats incredibly racist.
Justinwolf @ Oct 7th 2008 2:38PM
If Sony spent as much time on making games as they do making psp updates i would be happier.
vipre77 @ Oct 8th 2008 12:11AM
This means just about as much as all that adverts showing GT4 Mobile on the PSP back around the time the system launched... Don't mean nothin' until it's here...
Jp @ Oct 12th 2008 6:31PM
Wow. I don't know if you're serious, or just making a joke (in poor taste) but really, are you that racist? Really?
TM @ Oct 16th 2008 2:43PM
its out now...get firmware 5.00 if you don't believe it
