Skate 2's lead platform will be the PS3

Unhappy with the quality of Skate for the PS3? The producers apparently felt the same way -- developer Black Box has stated Skate 2's lead platform will be the PS3 -- this is due to the inferior version of Skate PS3 owners received when the Xbox 360 was the lead platform. For Skate 2, producer Jason DeLong and his team are aiming for the following: "The goal is that if you put both versions side-by-side, you will not be able to tell the difference."
Are Scott Steinberg's words from back in July coming true? Hopefully more third-party developers will choose the PS3 as the lead platform from now on to ensure both versions are on par with one another.

So basically use half of the PS3 so the 360's feelings aren't hurt.

I doubt that they're out to really utilize more than half of the PS3's power anyway. Now Final Fantasy XIII is a different story; I can't wait to see how that turns out.
It's great that developers are coming around on the PS3 being the leading platform. We're definitely seeing it a lot more now than we were a year ago. If it continues to yield positive results it'll definitely become commonplace.

i can't wait to see what the full potential of the PS3 really looks like. is there a meter in your PS3 that can tell how much it's using?

Well with EA getting most of their stuidos and trying to ge the rest on the ps3 lead platform since they did say q3 07 that they would be doing so because they see the ps3 as taking off from 08 onwards and now they are saying it is easier for them to port from ps3 to 360 than 360 to ps3 - it only makes sense for these developers to choose ps3 as lead platform if they want both games running equally as good.

The only thing that worries me about this strategy is that they could employ some kind of averaging scheme. They may make a game less attractive or less processor intensive on the PS3 just so it ports smoothly to the 360. If this is the scenario they're employing, we'll probably never see any EA games truly take advantage of the Cell or the storage of Blu-ray.

EA don't really do exclusives so they wouldn't do that even if they were porting it from the 360 to the ps3 - we'd have the same problem if either system were their lead platform.

Hrm. Last time I read about Skate 2. There were problems with the early build of the PS3 version while the 360 version was running pretty well. It was being demoed on the 360 as well.
Time will tell I guess.
I might get the 360 version anyway because I think the thumbstick would be better for tricks with the 360 pad. Will have to try a PS3 demo first though.

Ign for an example liked the control stick on the ps3 version. They said it has more radius compared to 360. Ign is known for pro 360. The 360 version did look better and ran smoother than the ps3 version, The control stick was a lot better on ps3.

This is great news! Skate rulz!
nakedatthecomp @ Oct 7th 2008 2:09PM
sweet, I didn't even really think anything was wrong with the first version, so if they can somehow make the second one better, that's even more awesome!

Ok, some of you already mentioned it but i'm gonna yell it out one more time. When are we going to see developers actually use the full power of the ps3. Cause nowadays all we hear is the ps3 is taking the lead graphically.
Back in time (haha) when the 360 ruled there were a big graphical difference when comparing ps3 and 360 games - and developers did what they could to get the best product on the 360 but now when the ps3 is taking the lead developers are throttling down on the ps3 because 'the two versions should look completely the same' - WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH THOSE DEVS?!?! Are they paid to do so by ms? XD OMG!
kentuckyfried @ Oct 7th 2008 5:39PM
yeah, that doesn't make any sense that developers would want the two games to look exactly the same, especially if the ps3 can possibly do more. I'd really hope that Sony's doing something to discourage that sort of behavior, b/c in the long run, that would hurt them as the consumer would have lesser incentive to buy ps3's if "...the 360 can do the same, only for less."
