White Knight Story will feature online co-op mode

Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki PlayStation reveals in its latest issue an online co-op mode for the Level-5 RPG White Knight Story. This online mode is independent of the story mode, but will feature characters from the single-player mode. Here is how it works: a lobby will accommodate 16 players, who will then be separated into groups of up to four in order to tackle quests and challenges. This mode will also give players a way to chat with one another. White Knight Story will be playable at TGS, so we'll let you know our thoughts on the game when we get some hands-on time with it.

So it will be something like ff tactics; psp version.

Sorry if i sound stupid, but how does it sound like final fantasy tactics? =p
Also, why fill up 16 slots and then split into 4 groups? why not go into 4 slots straight away? What if i want to play with a certain freind? is it pure chance? =p

Well in tactics you had the main quest and the side quest which you could only play with your friends. Im guessing that all 16 of you will be on the same team, going after one objective, starting from different location. so your friends will still be there for the support.

sounds good. cant wait to play this. hopefully its early 09 and not christmas 09 for america.

Well translation tends to take a while, so I would put your bets on a mid-09 release stateside.

i remember lord of the rings rpg ( ff x clone) and it have 2 players mode...it was really slow because you only have 1 turn :S. Imagine playing this with other 3 more people it will be like this
youre turn - player 2 - player 3 - player 4 - enemy 1 - enemy 2 -enemy 3 = 10 min and you only pressed the X button and did a simple atack... boring, i hope this turns out to be something like kingdom hearts but not a turn based game.

The party system seems to be more similar to FFXII's (which is similar to an MMO's system) where you're in a party and different people attack at different times based upon what actions you did last.
But WKS/WKC is also incorporating a realtime element in to the combat where you control the actual action of the character.
They might have changed this by now, so lets just wait until the hands-on to make judgments.

I think you guys are seriously lacking imagination. First off why would it be turn based, it uses the same kind of active system that most RPGs these days use. Why would they suddenly turn it turn based for multiplayer?
It seems to me each group of 4 probably gets some sort of quest to complete. Same principles MAG or Resistance 2 is working off of. Sony seems to share its techniques with all groups under its roof.

Some of you guys must not have been following any news about what the battle system in WKC will be. You go into the options and select your moves from a list. in battle you chain the moves together. it's real time battle but with a twist and yes. others can chain in their combos with yours too. say player 1 attacks a monster and hits them in the air. you come in and attacks them while in mid air. get it? okay. OR if there's more than one monster you go off and do your thing to help the party out!

But can I play with someone sitting next to me? This is something I wish all RPGs did. Fingers crossed for split-screen! :l
suki vee @ Oct 8th 2008 5:24PM
why split screen? why not just play in the same area on one screen to make the experience more enjoyable.

Also, I thought it was like the Online Mode for Phantasy Star Online from Sega.

Go back and watch the first (high def) trailer of White knight. The one that was released a couple of E3s ago. If you look carefully at the map select screen, you can clearly see some icons that says "Online" suggesting you can play the mission online. I'm surprised no one ever noticed that.
