The mystery of Sony's 'unannounced' TGS games

Remember all of those unannounced TGS games? That's a rhetorical question. We know full well that you remember them, because many of you won't stop harping on about them in our comments section. Let's get one thing clear, in releasing that press release Sony was revealing a portion of its TGS show floor offerings. The rest were left as a surprise. They were "unannounced."

Many of these games were titles that we'd seen before, such as Killzone 2, Nobi Nobi Boy and White Knight Chronicles, however there were some games that were revealed for the first time during the show. Titles such as Demon's Souls (which was actually technically announced just prior to the show, via Famitsu) and Quantum Theory. Sony's lineup was strong but, sadly, there were no megaton game announcements. So now you know the mystery of the "unannounced" games, can we get back to looking forward to all the awesome games we do know about?

Did you really expect 11 new, different titles? ELEVEN? That's way too much. I only expect maybe 2-4 per game convention.

I did not say that. I meant that it was very unlikely of Sony to show off 11 brand spanking new titles just for the PS3. It's not their style. Remember E3? One of the only big announcements for the future was MAG and that was pretty much it. Sony likes holding on to their exclusives, and they have pretty damn good reason to.

Well if you did your homework, you would've known that ALL of the major game websites (including IGN, 1UP, Joystiq, Gamespot, GamePro, and more) reported this. It was a major misinterpretation.

Everybody misread what Sony mean't. That's what PS3 Fanboy is saying. They mean't there will be 11 games playable at TGS that they haven't annouced( to be playable not unannouced as in games they you never heard of before) hence why each psot on the internet features a list of games of playable ones which are the annouced ones :).

I did read the article. I also read many other articles and took a look at the press release. It was just a list of playable games in their booth. There were, however, 11 other games that would be there. They just weren't on the list and thus, unannounced. This fact was just lost in translation.
Sony never said "we will be revealing 11 never before seen game" as articles all over the web seemed to indicate.
I do feel your pain though. I believed all of the articles too.

At this point I could care less about unannounced games. I just want to play all those insane games that are coming including:

Resistance 2
Killzone 2
MAG
GOW3

OMG i completely forgot about MAG! its been so long and there hasn't been anything i know about on it. and ya, resistance 2 is coming out soon so i'm not to worried about that and with the announcment with retribution add-ons or whatever, that made my day. killzone 2 would be nice to have some more info on. and GOW 3, i'm not expecting anything on that till like next E3 lol

What a bunch of BS. This was one of Sony's worst performances in any game shows in the past 5 years. No on stage key note or presentation, not even a playable Shirokishi (W.K.C) demo, not a single word on ICO's new game, no interesting RPGs, nothing. nothing, nothing, nothing.

You are kinda to blame for this yourself cause it came off as if theses unannounced games where things we had yet to EVER hear of and acted as if some of these could have possibly be megaton-announcements.
Sorry but that is just my opinion. I'm happy enough as it is with LittleBigPlanet coming out, so you didn't hear anything from me about TGS 2008 before and most likely will not ever.

unfortunately, there was no spin, this was a show for the asian crowd, for that area, those titles were INDEED unnannounced.

Or was there ever a press release that stated that these titles were completely new and also unnounced on NA as well? if so, please show it to me?

like I said.. I hope they won't come down to using PR or marketing scheme to build up hype and promotions from the gamers. Those types of hypes might work long ago when game magazines were the only ways we gamers get news.. but not in today online community where announcment from anywhere in the world will be known by gamers immediately.

If you gonna said "well.. they haven't been annouaced yet in ... so it's new to them" i'm afraid we're going down to PR path of "well... they're new games cuz we havne't annouced on this city.. or well they're Exclusive for the day of November 10 to certain console, or well.. they're Exclusive cuz we have an unqiue DLC character, or ONLY on PS3 experiences cuz you're press button X, Y instead of button A or B."

First time I write on this board.
I think that Sony has learnt to make its game top-secret.
Every time they announce something, M$ arrives with their sacks of money to buy it or to copy it.
S-E, I'm looking at you!
If you wanted money from GAMERS, why didn't you show anything for the largest and quickest selling piece of hardware named Wii?
I was disappointed by Sony, but I actually prefer to see an exclusive just 2-3 months before the release, when none can rip it off.
At last I enjoy the idea of having something even identical to Gears on the PS3, because we lack of a game of that kind.

I think that should be DYNASTY WARRIORS 6 empires. You have it as DW 5 empires. I really hope that it is DLC, if so I will get it, if not I will curse the franchise one last time.

I admit, I was fooled and very exited. Sony could use something BIG like a list of 11 NEW games to counter all the ones Micro$oft steals from them (funny, my Firefox dose not spell check that spelling does yours?) Oh well.....I'll never look forward to another game show this generation.

I didn't set high hopes for this show so i'm not depressed in any way.
Patience is a virtue, wait until Team Ico's new game arrives you'll forget this show even took place.

I think people need to start expecting megaton announcements to only really happen at focused events held by the company making those announcements; and to only have these happen closer to the release of the that product. E3, GC, PAX, TGS, did anything huge really come out of any of those this year? No don't write Final Fantasy 13. It was shocking to be sure but announcing an already known game is going to be available on another platform is hardly a megaton announcement, unless you're one of those.

With a very strong lineup for the holiday and both Killzone 2 and Infamous targeted for Feb-May, I wouldn't expect to see any big announcements until Sony Gamer Day 2009.

it was megaton for Microsoft to announce FF13 at E3 and megaton for them to announce Tekken 6 at the TGS. Sony has really, yet to have a megaton this year and folks were hoping they would show something at this TGS.

with or without a Megaton tho, their software lineup is pretty solid. you can even say that they don't need a megaton, however that would be saying that you don't care for surprise announcements also.

I think quantum theory looks great, it may look alot like character modles from gears of war, who cares I think it looks more interesting. Its awesome yakuza 3 is exclusive, and white knight chronicles looks better everytime I see it. I think it's another win for sony big time, micro's only announcement worth anything was getting tekken 6, see a pattern?
