PSP firmware 5.00 also coming soon to US, PC Store temporarily down
While firmware 5.00 was confirmed for Japanese release this week, it appears that America will also follow suit. The big update in 5.00 is the ability to access the PSN and PLAYSTATION Store directly from the PSP. The PC-based Store will be temporarily down in the interim.
While this is great for our Mac-owning friends that weren't able to purchase games in the past, this deal will be far more enticing if it ensured that our weekly PSN updates were slightly more robust than wallpaper downloads. Let's hope that the US can have a downloadable lineup as great as Japan's.

They have all the official details over at Sony Forums and they said all first party Sony games will have UMD, and a PS store release

oh wow. Mac users couldnt use pc store earlier? Thats like a slap in the face to apple. If sony did make a pc store for mac users imagine the boost in sales. Its good for both of them. So why is Sony so stupid to not make it compatible for macs?
Kspraydad @ Oct 13th 2008 1:28PM
Do you have any stats as to the cross ownership of PSP and Macintosh computers? I doubt it is worth SONY's time and money.
sintax @ Oct 13th 2008 2:08PM
I fell into this category and had to download PSP demos to my PS3 and transfer them that way. It worked, but a built in store will be much nicer.
joeybeast @ Oct 13th 2008 2:25PM
I have a mac too. Had to use parallel for this, lost my USB cable.
Can't wait for the update.

I have Windows 2000 and I have been unable to download things from the store as well. My PSP has been a literal paperweight for some time. Once this is done it will be time to kick the dust off of it and check out some new demos! Thank God! This took way too long.
Gurbinder @ Oct 13th 2008 4:28PM
actually what are the stats to the cross ownership of PSP and Macintosh computers? I am curious.
Sony will always be Sony. I feel for the Mac owners. Kspraydad just because not many people who own macs dont own many psps doesent mean there are people out there with macs and psp.
Anyhow I wonder how fast this psp store is going to be anyways, on any internet connection. Has anyone tested it out yet?
adam @ Oct 13th 2008 12:11PM

Errol @ Oct 13th 2008 7:16PM
Maybe this is what Sony has been waiting for. Maybe, when the firmware has been released, they will finaly start releasing more games and PS classics on the stores, and give us the same treatment as Japan gets.
Yo Shock!! @ Oct 13th 2008 12:25PM
Hmmm how come i can still go on the pc store?
atastysammich @ Oct 13th 2008 12:30PM
So you can buy Guilty Gear Judgement before they start the upgrade! go go go go
KarlW @ Oct 13th 2008 12:38PM
Let's hope Europe isn't forgotten...
I mean, come on, it's the same playstation store. It's just being accessed from another device.
Kspraydad @ Oct 13th 2008 1:27PM
Full screen keyboard...you think this is what they meant by a keyboard coming by late 2008?
Gurbinder @ Oct 13th 2008 1:39PM
I doubt it. Probably changed it to look like the ps3 keyboardor something like that. Atleast they redesigned the xmb, atleast thats what they say. But seriously sony i need that keyboard. For me typing on the psp is like taking a dump.
Kspraydad @ Oct 13th 2008 8:51PM
Taking a dump is one of the better times of the day...the current keyboard is worse.
drdre74 @ Oct 13th 2008 2:13PM
being a mac owner this is good news. I hated having to hook my psp up to my PS3 just to get stuff. But I guess it didn't matter since PsP has been pretty dead for awhile but looks to be picking back up with the new game line up the rest of the year into next. Resistance looks great and I'll buy that since it was done by the studio that did the syphon filter games which i loved.

I'm really excited about the RSS text support. It would be great reading the latest news on bed before sleeping. PC store functionality is as exciting to me because for some reason I am not able to download anything through the PC.
TM @ Oct 14th 2008 12:09AM
I hope version 5.00 releases soon...maybe it will coincide with me getting a psp 3000......
terry @ Oct 14th 2008 12:58PM
Who cares about Sony not supporting MAC!It is just proprietary business as usual. Besides, Apple will make the touch more powerful and you will see darn good games for the touch, watch! Look at the app store. That is just a taste of what's to come. And Sony is so freaking slow releasing stuff. It took them nearly three years to double the ram on the psp. What is that all about. Sucks.

5.0 is out
