Dead Space includes Burnout & Bad Company demos
Being one of the biggest publishers in the world has its advantages. One of these advantages, particularly in EA's case, is being able to pull from their catalog of games for extra content. For example, the PS3 version of Dead Space comes with two demos for other EA titles: Burnout Paradise and Battlefield: Bad Company. These demos are accessible from the XMB, where two Blu-ray discs will appear once you insert the Dead Space disc. One for the game itself and the other titled "EA Demos."
These demos need to be installed, but can be run without having the disc in the drive. In other words, it saves you having to download. Not exactly a selling point, but definitely a clever way for EA to leverage their other publishing properties.

or....i can just download the demos from the psn witch is the same freaking thing
Strike Man @ Oct 15th 2008 8:18PM
Yes, because we all know that every single PS3 owner is connected to the PlayStation Network...
Cidi @ Oct 15th 2008 8:20PM
Well not all people have a Internet connection or want/can download demos i.e. only slow internet or download limit. If they have enough free space on the disc white not use it. I thinks it`s a nice addition although I would prefer Demos from newer games like a Mirrors Edge demo :)
Meximanly @ Oct 15th 2008 8:27PM
Good luck with that. The Burnout Paradise demo has been taken off the PS Store for quite some time now.
I find this an interesting marketing strategy to say the least. It's not like they're forcing you to put the demos on your hard-drive so it's like an extra option for those who don't have internet access. Good move in my opinion.

Those that have a limited bandwidth or slow Internet connection (or even none at all) can gain great benefits from this.

Hey guys, sorry I re-iterated what the other posters said at the top. My browser had a delay before I knew that they were going to post the same thing what I was about to say.
=\

PSN: Erdie @ Oct 15th 2008 8:20PM
Well, that's one way to fill up the BD.
kentuckyfried @ Oct 16th 2008 1:59AM
They should've put demos for newer games, or better yet...EXTRA exclusive ps3 Dead Space levels/content
rohan @ Oct 15th 2008 8:23PM
well not everyone is connected to the PSN, what if they have the 20 GB launch ps3?? it is actually go business in part of EA especially having the ability to download and store it on the PS3 without having the disc in the drive. Nice thinking EA even though they are few and far apart.... but lately they seem to be coming faster and faster(goes to find news flash if hell was frozen over)
aahatimy @ Oct 16th 2008 9:31AM
I have a 20GB - well not 20GB anymore - launch PS3 and it can connect to the internet, it's called using an Ethernet cable.
RasenganFury @ Oct 15th 2008 8:25PM
Not a bad idea. Although i have already played both of those demos, it's still a nice addition.
Kenneth Sy Su @ Oct 16th 2008 12:24AM
yeah i agree
it is really smart to do something like this
it is pretty much free advertising
ricky @ Oct 15th 2008 8:32PM
reminds me of the good old days, like when the demo of Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX was on THPS2.
iamkid @ Oct 15th 2008 11:35PM
i remember that.
Robert @ Oct 15th 2008 8:33PM
That multiple icons feature would have been nice on the MGS4 disc. one icon for MGS and one for MGO (or for any dual online/offline game)
rohan @ Oct 15th 2008 8:39PM
dam ur right
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 15th 2008 8:43PM
Or Stranglehold SE. They could have an icon for the game and another icon in Video to watch Hard Boiled. The UI in-game for Hard Boiled really sucks and they should have just treated that as a video that was playable via the XMB like any usual Blu-ray Disc movie. But hey, that's just me. What do I know?
playcrackthesky @ Oct 15th 2008 9:32PM
Stranglehold? Damn someone actually plays that?
Strike Man @ Oct 15th 2008 10:05PM
The game was a fun throwback that wasn't as bad as people made it out to be (in my personal opinion, of course). Flawed, but certainly not swill.
As linebeginstoblur pointed out, in order to access Hard Boiled, you need to launch the game, then select the movie from the menu, and for all that trouble, you're treated with awful movie controls and tiny subtitles (depending on the resolution). I seem to recall Midway's excuse was that the Weinstein's (who supported HD DVD at the time) would only allow Hard Boiled to be released on BD if only PS3s could play it, not standard BD players. The idea is that it wouldn't impact future Hard Boiled HD DVD sales down the road. *cough* *cough*
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 15th 2008 10:13PM
It's not a bad game. Not a great game, but not a bad one. I bought it for two reasons: I enjoyed playing the demo, and I wanted Hard Boiled in HD. It's upsetting to see that one of the main reasons I bought it was handled poorly.
monkeyninja @ Oct 15th 2008 9:13PM
sony has a survey and when u finish, ur entered into a giveaway for a new ps3 game of ut choice

I think the publisher's may found their answer on how to leverage the capacity of Blu-ray if there is still some space to be covered.
Elias @ Oct 16th 2008 7:30AM
Actually Activision-Blizzard is bigger than EA.
stargateheaven @ Oct 16th 2008 7:58AM
They used to do this on some PS1 games.
Dirty @ Oct 16th 2008 10:31AM
Must be all that left over space on the blu-ray.
