TGS 08: Sony's booth - reality vs fantasty
Click for bigger PlayStations
Our statistics show that you, dear reader, are most likely to be of American origin. As a result, you probably don't have access to the Japanese Home beta. It's a shame, because it's the closest you were probably going to get to attending the Tokyo Game Show this year. The Japanese Home "Events and Media" space was updated, allowing those who were unable to reach the show to walk around in a to-scale mock-up of Sony's booth. But just how close does the in-game model come to the real thing? Scarily close. We've attempted to recreate the screenshots by photographing the booth from the correct angles. In each image, the top half shows the Home version and the bottom reveals real life. Thankfully, the real booth was nowhere near as empty as it is in Home. Perhaps a release of the open beta, timed to coincide with TGS, would've allowed even more people to check out their upcoming wares. Opportunity missed.

I can't wait for home to be released. One of my friends managed to get into Beta. The graphics and realism looks pretty cool. However, I do agree the opportunity was missed.

totally awesome. I know its not really possible now, but wouldnt it be sweet to go up to each ps3 and try out a new demo of a game without having to install like stream the same demos at the shows.
KZ2 im looking your way.

But if they know what it should look like first & is all planned before being built on the beta.. course it will be close.. not really all that surprising..
Surprising is that I thought Home would actually be on par with the Sims 2.. not Sims 1 as it looks in these pictures..

What do you mean on par with Sims 1? Sims is a game / simulation. Home is a social networking application / game lobby.
Or do you mean graphics? If so, then I won't bother commenting; I don't think you would understand me (no offense).

yeah, visually I mean.. It's just something I expected of it, a more accurate looking Sims 2, with a smooth frame rate..
But then I also expect it to be like an MMORPG lobby when you 'play'.. been on Phantasy Star Universe.. if you've been on this you'll know what I mean.. but people spouting rubbish in text bubbles, filling the screen - it does luckily have a mute though..

It's pretty cool how in those pictures, the corner of the booth/display looks like the ribbon background in on the PS3/PSP theme.

i think the real life booth has better graphics. it also moves at a silky smooth 60fps, even with that many character sprites on screen at once. i can't wait to pick this one up. :P

What are you talking about, the Home version looks way better, your just a fanboy of reality!
AJ_3 @ Oct 15th 2008 1:39PM

francisco @ Oct 15th 2008 2:23PM
will home have trophies anyways? lol
ps92117 @ Oct 16th 2008 10:56PM
that is a cool idea of recreating the sony booth on home but would 'n it be cool if you had companys like ea and 2k make virtual sports turnament on home and actualy have a real audience oh and i dont think its gona have trophys cause it is a free softwear you only give trophys to purchable stuff so people would want to buy them
