How helpful are TGS press kits? Well, let us know. Here's word-for-word what we're told about the stories of FFXIII and Versus. (Let us know if you see any similarities.)

They have no more in common than any other 2 Final Fantasy titles.
Square Enix is ending the numeration of the series for the time being. Instead of a FF game every year (or every 3-4 now as it seems), we will be getting new additions to the FFXIII 'series'
FFXIII, Versus, Agito, Hearisis (yet unannounced) and likely several more. All having different stories, characters and game mechanics.

Wrong both are set to take place in the same world. It seems that FF13 will be earlier then FF13 versus because in Versus there is only one crystal left while in FF13 there will be several crystals. They should have a lot more in common then other FF games.

who says FF13 is strictly a pure fantasy universe? and on that note, who says that FF13 vs. can't include Dragons and Goblins respective of the title's own style?

@ryan: False. Both games take place in the same universe. Take any of the other Final Fantasies and they do not.

dude, did i say that they were different universes? No. i already know they take place within the same world. read carefully again.
i said FF13 may not be a pure fantasy Universe(in the D&D sense), but FF13 vs. may include dragons and goblins within it's own STYLE. not a separate universe. STYLE. they are in the same realm, different styles.
also FFX and X2 take place within the same world. so...?

versus looks great but they better not put goofy monsters in it or people people jumping and making strange poses just to shoot with a gun...oh..wait that is final fantasy.
Csmisi i agree with you... FFXIII will be like...o"oohh we all have cristals and stuff" and Versus will be like 1000 years later and people will be like "oh noes there is only one cristal that like controls the univers and its balance and its falling in the wrong hands"... This seems to me like FFVI...

Versus has apparently said only for the Playstation 3 in its trailers. Hopefully it stays like that.

Reuben, you got it all wrong. FF XIII is coming on every platforms everywhere EXCEPT for Japan, where it remains a PS3 exclusive.
My bet is that it will change, and will only go through a timed exclusive deal since the X-Box 360 has been gaining some grounds there with the recent release of a few JRPGs. Of course, they still have a long way to make it to the PS3 install base there, but I guess only time will tell.
After all, FF XIII was said to be PS3 exclusive in the first trailers of the game, and we all know what happened to that.
S-E criticized SONY for the apparent lack of marketing efforts since it didn't sell well in its first year. When you develop a blockbuster like FF XIII that costs tens of millions to produce, you don't want to release it on a platform that has no legs. So I understand S-E for going multi-platform where the 360 is more popular than PS3 (i.e. America).

And what about their damn crystals? Do you whine about the mushrooms in Nintendo's games? Zombies in Resident Evil? Or rings in Sonic?
Crystals are responsible for most of their best games in the series (I-IV-V-VI-IX and XII) and has almost always been at the core of the franchise. So I don't see why you'd have anything against them.

im replying to your wrong reply: Bear in mind, that Mario, Resi, AND Sonic have all gone really shit. Sonic unleashed? Please. They should have stopped like 6 games ago. Not to mention Mario and his stupid little mushrooms popping up in everything with nintendo written on it. Even Resident Evil 4 is pants, what with the whole zombies but not zombies, survival horror but not, and not being able to leave that stupid bitch's ass to die of mutated ringworm poisoning.
