I wholeheartedly agree with you on the headset issue. I would love to see in the future a headset bundled in with the PS3.
ryan @ Oct 16th 2008 9:00PM
seriously. if you pay $399 you should expect a headset to come with the console by now.
Dartmerc @ Oct 16th 2008 9:22PM
Yeah, you should expect free games, extra controllers, huge HDD and a camera!!!11
Or not.
The PS3 costs $399, take it or leave it.
ryan @ Oct 16th 2008 10:20PM
no. the competition offers a free headset right out of the box.
just throw one in. if you are serious about supporting your online community and seeing it grow, help the consumer ease into it right from the start. i don't see how you can spin this.
deathxrebirth @ Oct 16th 2008 10:48PM
Good points, but as Dartmerc was saying, where do you draw the line?
The PS3 has tons of included features already. Why didn't MS include HDMI straight-away when they were touting hi-def? No Hi-def movie playback capabilities without an add-on. No wireless network without an add-on. No storage option on the lower end models, etc etc.
The point is, yes, a free, flimsy headset would have been nice. But don't act like you are not getting all the bang for your buck.
ryan @ Oct 17th 2008 1:13AM
well, to be straightforward, they were going for what counts: to set their audience up for an online gaming experience. not an HD/movie experience.
i would take out HDMI cables for a headset anyday to be honest, and so would many people that can't/decide not to take advantage of an HD monitor setup.
morningdrive @ Oct 16th 2008 8:01PM
wow that is a horrible ps1 game where is mgs1 man!!
PSN: John-Paul-Jones @ Oct 17th 2008 12:20AM
MGS1 is a definite buy for me if it's ever released on the American PSN Store. I'm wondering why the Japanese PSN Store got it first, yet the Metal Gear series has sold remarkably more in North America than in Japan.
=\
TanZong @ Oct 16th 2008 8:01PM
Nice update! BTW, Lunatics Unite is not a demo, it was part of the Motorstorm Pacific Rift demo post.
Gambit07 @ Oct 16th 2008 8:02PM
What the hell is Lunatics Unite?
Gambit07 @ Oct 16th 2008 8:11PM
removed, alrighty.
Radek @ Oct 16th 2008 8:04PM
Where the hell is Soldner-X: Himmelssturmer?
Gambit07 @ Oct 16th 2008 8:12PM

JerJerBinks @ Oct 16th 2008 11:12PM

Lord_von_Punx @ Oct 16th 2008 8:09PM

mr samsara @ Oct 16th 2008 8:10PM
Regarding headsets: what's the deal? I have a motorola bluetooth headset that a buddy gave to me so we could chat when we played Warhawk. It used to work fine but usually doesn't work while playing anymore. Is this a Warhawk issue or is there a PS3 issue I'm unaware of? Is the PS3 headset somehow different? :noob:
Averna @ Oct 16th 2008 9:04PM
I think its been an issue with warhawk for ages now., although the devs are blaming sony
fiziks @ Oct 17th 2008 2:33AM
It's a problem on Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company too, so it is Sony's fault..
Kozalicious @ Oct 16th 2008 8:11PM
Whatever happened to Age of Booty? Was it delayed and I just missed the boat?
Gambit07 @ Oct 16th 2008 8:13PM
not out yet, out on XBLA...
Confucius @ Oct 16th 2008 8:12PM
HAHA !
Too bad socom does't work, or else it would have been a great addition to the Thursday update.
Phil @ Oct 16th 2008 8:20PM
why should i get a bluetooth headset?? well, you can guess i am deaf or hearing impaired. then i dont need a bluetooth headset. i can buy it by downloadable verison!
krztov @ Oct 16th 2008 8:25PM
yeah i agree on the headset thing, its a pretty good headset, been using it since tuesday night. really comfortable, crisp sound and it has the added features of seeing on the ps3 itself the battery life and such.
Shadow_Modder @ Oct 16th 2008 8:33PM
Well, the you should get the headset bundle if you don't have a headset or don't like your current one. For those already have another and are happy with it, they shouldn't bother, but yeah, paying $60 for the bundle is a good deal. I'm happy with mine, too bad SOCOM has too many issues right now..
DiRT @ Oct 16th 2008 8:52PM
...issues... like a complete lack of single player content...
playcrackthesky @ Oct 16th 2008 9:01PM
What are you talking about Dirt.
You know very well that they never intended it to include single player, its only a multiplayer game, which is exactly what you would want from Socom.
I cant believe you think that's even an issue, gronk.
The real issues are the errors people are receiving and the inability to connect to games.
Single-player mode missing, geesh...some people know how to get under my skin all to easy.
wem003 @ Oct 17th 2008 12:34AM
I have to agree with DiRT...
I am all for multiplayer online games, but come on - at least offer a single player campaign.
Sometimes I want to play at my own pace, not have to wait for games to start, server lag - or the server not even being there, wow - what a launch for this.
As a big SOCOM fan - I have been out of touch with it for a while though - I was disappointed that it was online only.
deathxrebirth @ Oct 16th 2008 8:37PM
Personally I'm looking into a USB "wired" headset. Anyone know of any good and PS3 compatible ones?
I just don't like using my bluetooth one anymore. Too many disconnects and background noise. Plus, charging it is getting annoying.
Sneeches @ Oct 16th 2008 8:55PM
dude, I picked up the PS2/PS3 compatible USB one by logitech off ebay for like 20$. Just do that and it's perfect btw.
sony87 @ Oct 16th 2008 9:08PM
I recommend that you buy the bundle with socom even thou right now there is a lot of server problems. I had the same problem with my old blue tooth headset it would disconnect all the time but the ps3 head set is all some. The voice quality is better no back ground noise and easy to work. All you have to do is connect the headset through usb to the ps3 and bam now you are in sink with the ps3. I hope that helped.
deathxrebirth @ Oct 16th 2008 9:22PM
It did help. Thanks to both of you.
I was checking out that USB one on amazon and it got a lot of mixed reviews. So I dunno.
I would really like to go wireless, honestly.
As for blue-tooth, I have a moto one from my phone which sucks, and I got the Jabra one that came with Warhawk and it too, sucks.
Maybe I'll wait for a bit more reviews for the official one to come out.
Does anyone know if the SOCOM one comes with the dock?
sony87 @ Oct 16th 2008 10:04PM
Yes the ps3 headset that comes with socom bundle comes with a dock too. The blue tooth that comes with socom is the official ps3 one not a socom headset so if you do want to buy the official ps3 headset you are better off buying the bundle.
wem003 @ Oct 17th 2008 12:35AM
Just curious - does the old USB headset from the PS2 work?
It did work somewhat with a windows machine on some stuff.
Sneeches @ Oct 16th 2008 8:51PM
um....where's soldier X and age of booty? i thought they were suppose to be released today?? WTF SONY
Mark @ Oct 16th 2008 10:06PM
Why does the 360 get Tom Clancy's End War demo and we dont??
PSN: Erdie @ Oct 16th 2008 10:40PM
Anyone try the Motorstorm demo? It sure didn't impress me much.
Brent @ Oct 16th 2008 11:45PM
hmm downloaded the Saw theme it showed up as corrupt WTF
Melzas @ Oct 17th 2008 2:32AM
Why doesn't ps3fanboy list the japanese store updates? There are lots of demos and stuff that comes out earlier there plus some exclusive content.
fiziks @ Oct 17th 2008 2:33AM
I'm glad I don't have to download the set 2 and 3 add-ons for EOJ to get the set 1 trophies like the developers made it sound...
anthonyjh @ Oct 17th 2008 7:09AM
If the final product is anything like the beta, I'll pass on SOCOM and just get the headset. The whole experience was bollocks.
tom @ Oct 17th 2008 8:10AM
ive got a sony ps2 headset it works fine for cod but its quiet on warhawk and often doesnt work on battlefield.
i recently got hold of a dead cheap xbox and i have to say the headset reliability and chat options are far better than the ps3's.....which is annoying.
joey_numbers @ Oct 17th 2008 12:32PM
I love being able to play top quality games without ejecting a disc. I just wish I had a bigger hard drive. Too much good stuff.
matahtak @ Oct 17th 2008 5:32PM
I disagree with the headset thing. I rather buy it on PSN so I can have it on the HDD without having to bother with the disc. I did the same with WarHawk. I'd love to see more full games like this just available to buy on the PSN. My Nokia BH200 works just as great for the PS3.
