The PSN is down ... well, parts of it

It looks like the PlayStation (gotta love that lowercase!) Network is currently down for some "temporary unscheduled maintenance" -- specifically, the PlayStation Store, account management and registration functions. You know what's not down? Online gameplay. It looks like Sony doesn't currently have a time frame for when the PSN will be fully functional again, but as soon as they announce it, we'll relay the information to you.

[Update] -- It looks like the PS Store update will be delayed as well. It will "likely follow as soon as things are back to normal."

[Update 2] The PSN Store and registration functions are now back online. Hooray!

I highly doubt it's due to Home coming out today. I have a feeling that will come out in Japan first anyways.

I suspect it's due to the PSP 5.0 update. Something unexpected with accessing the store and your account via PSP.

-Install 2.7 GB to play SOCOM

-Download 483 mb patch to play SOCOM

-After 45 mins finally ready to play and bam can't connect to the SOCOM servers.

Due to the tremendous launch of SOCOM Confrontation and large number of

simultaneous players connecting, we are experiencing some server load

issues. We are aware of the current server issues and we are actively

looking into them. We will have these issues resolved as soon as possible.

One of the MVP's on the official PlayStation forums just said it's not going to be back up until the early hours of the morning. I'm in the UK so hopefully we'll be seeing it updated in about 8 hours.

It's been said that it's emergency maintenance mate. I doubt it is the Resistance 2 beta. I'd imagine it was all set-up previously like the private beta was :)

(I'm personally hoping for some more Home invites. One can dream eh!?) :D

The PS Store is working now, I had to turnoff the PS3 and turn it back on. Account Management isn't working though..wait.. not the Store isn't working either..
Sigh, I'll just wait a few hours and check back later.

If it is "temporary unscheduled maintenance" I don't think they are adding new features or anything of the sort, just that something went wrong and they are trying to fix it.
