Capcom rewarded with first-ever branded PlayStation Store
Capcom is one of the most prolific PSN publishers out there, and Sony is rewarding their efforts with the first-ever branded PlayStation Store experience (see pic, above). "Out of all of the third-party companies making use of the digital space, [Sony] recognizes Capcom is one of the best partners for content," John Diamonon, product manager on all Capcom digital titles told Edge. "We're supporting PlayStation Network like no other company."
With releases like Mega Man 9 and Bionic Commando Rearmed, Capcom is one of the few publishers that has seen significant success in the digital realm. They want gamers to associate the Capcom brand with quality downloadable titles, and having a dedicated Capcom storefront within the PlayStation Store will only help their goal.
The Capcom-branded PlayStation Store should go live in November, and will be the first of a growing number of publisher portals. Obviously, this has Capcom quite excited, as this is something that Sony seems to be pursuing exclusively. "As far as Microsoft goes--how can I say this dimplomatically--there are things I think they'd like to do to promote content in multiple ways, and I think they'll get there eventually ... but they're not there yet."

Good news everyone, Sony's getting some exclusive content in '09 from Capcom.
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 17th 2008 5:49PM
Like Trophies for Devil May Cry 4, Super Puzzle Fighter II HD, Bionic Commando Rearmed, etc.? I know BCR will eventually have them, but... come on... Devil May Cry 4 could easily, EASILY, handle trophies. It's just like with Uncharted. All you need to do is take the in-game achievements and connect them to a Trophy system.
duckhunt8 @ Oct 17th 2008 5:57PM
Don't forget testing, and paying all of the people involved, and redistributing resources you're currently using, and all the reasons I don't know.
Trophies aren't just plug and play, they take time and money, and some companies just can't deal with past projects right now.
strike @ Oct 17th 2008 3:31PM
When they stop making us pay for each character (megaman), then i'll use their store
kidding, kidding, capcom are one of my favourite japanese developers
SolidOtacon @ Oct 17th 2008 3:41PM
What about Konami ?
strike @ Oct 17th 2008 4:03PM
Yes, konami are awesome to, ofcourse, but I like the way capcom is supporting sony, and no throwing ALL their resources at nintendo.
And they have some ass-kicking ideas, like monster hunter and devil may cry, etc
TinyTim121 @ Oct 17th 2008 3:46PM
Did they mention the store needs a mandatory 5GB install and that Capcom shall send a free sandwich cook book to the first 100 people who use the store?
Kidding, but on a more intelligent note i think its great that Sony's rewarding third party developers...maybe this will entice them to make exclusive games? *Crosses fingers*
Eggy @ Oct 17th 2008 4:43PM
sammiches yummy
Think85 @ Oct 17th 2008 3:47PM
I've seen the store branded for Burnout and a few other things, so this is not entirely new really.
deathxrebirth @ Oct 17th 2008 9:54PM
I've never seen the store branded for burnout. When was this?
I have seen Burnout plastered everywhere in the little ad boxes, but never an actual branding.
Also, this is not just a branding. This is more like a "portal" or a "channel".
alex @ Oct 17th 2008 3:49PM
sorry to change topic but mgs4 on 360 rumprs are back and they seem pretty real this time
TinyTim121 @ Oct 17th 2008 3:58PM
Not now alex...everyone seem's steamed about Little Big Planet...now is not the best time to bring this up lol
Gambit07 @ Oct 17th 2008 4:03PM
SCREW MGS4! SCREW SONY! SCREW 360! i NEED MY LBP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice avatar TinyTim121!
TinyTim121 @ Oct 17th 2008 5:03PM
Cheers Gambit07
Its my PSN one as well (PSN: TinyTim121)
And i think we all want LBP just as bad.
Actually just a thought off topic for Joystiq, if you can use AOL/AIM user-names, why not also allow PSN, 360 Gamercards hook-ups?
I mean Rockstar did it for the Rockstar social club. So yeah, why not? Probably due to terms agreements or some law.
Popfrogs @ Oct 17th 2008 5:27PM
Those rumors were retracted by Konami already. This "latest rumor" thing is 2 or 3 days old now.
Jake @ Oct 17th 2008 3:50PM
i thought capcom were the ones that screwed ps over by not making ports good and so on
Gambit07 @ Oct 17th 2008 4:06PM
I'm guessing this will coincide with the release of SSF2THD.
Evi1d33d @ Oct 17th 2008 8:50PM
And hopefully MvC2HD.
Jonathan @ Oct 17th 2008 4:06PM

Elliott @ Oct 17th 2008 4:32PM
Pixel Junk Monsters
Gambit07 @ Oct 17th 2008 4:54PM
the bowling is pretty good, also, Bionic Commando, mega man 9, Pixeljunk Eden, if you got mad dough , go for Burnout, Warhawk, Wipeout HD. Add if U want: Gambit07
1664 @ Oct 17th 2008 6:49PM
Super Stardust Hd is good if you like arcade shooters but you will need the expansions packs to get all the trophies & the extra modes :-| and the last guy is good along with 1942 (theres demos of them on the store) and wipeout is a must if you like raceing games. DONT be tempted by Geon or Lococ corioco or whatever its called as there crap, grab linger in the shadows with any extra change, would also grab warhawk and burnout on disc as i got both mine brand new and for cheaper in uk
deathxrebirth @ Oct 17th 2008 9:59PM
Ironically, you are asking in this topic. A lot of the Capcom games are sweet. I personally like Super Puzzle Fighter HD (one of the best puzzle games EVER) and 1942.
Wipeout HD is sweet and The Last Guy for some quirky fun.
tuaamin13 @ Oct 19th 2008 10:13AM
SuperStardust HD, Pixel Junk Monsters+Encore (supposedly free expansion now, idk if it's limited time only), Pixel Junk Eden, WipEout HD, and Calling all Cars is pretty good. I also have Novastrike.
CAC is free if you buy a year subscription to Qore ($25). Qore is Sony's online magazine, and as a promo you sometimes get into betas early without having to pre-order the game. So people who pre-ordered SOCOM got into the beta a month before the release, and then Qore people got into it a week later. Figure it's like OPM, but in HD video form, and then you get a quasi demo disc (1 or 2 exclusive downloads per episode).
Tom @ Oct 17th 2008 4:23PM
The reason they're the most prolific developers is because all their games run on the same bloody engine.
koehler83 @ Oct 17th 2008 4:39PM
Who wants to bet this launches either Japan or US exclusive?
Anyone?
Anyone at all?
nakedatthecomp @ Oct 17th 2008 5:26PM
DUKE NUKEM!!!!!!!
Aysir @ Oct 17th 2008 6:28PM
Ermm, I'm pretty sure the Playstation has already had a branded thing before. There was one for the launch of Burnout on the PSN and the Japanese had something else before too.
ZildjianKX @ Oct 17th 2008 6:32PM
How is Capcom is great?
No trophies or rumble for Puzzle Fighter...
Still no trophies patch for Bionic Commando Rearmed.
If they cared about the PS3, they would support their existing games.
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 17th 2008 5:50PM
I'm hoping maybe this positive treatment from Sony will encourage them to make the trophies after all.
At least I'm hoping...
Jonathan @ Oct 17th 2008 6:47PM
Good point, cause obviously the only way to support the PS3 is to have trophies in your games. Not to bring high quality games to the PSN, oh no, just trophies.
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 18th 2008 12:23AM
@Jonathan
Good point, cause obviously the only way to have trophies in your PS3 games is to abandon future games from being included on the PSN. Not to do both and take Sony up on the offer to help them with the trophy systems, oh no, just forget that entirely.
sinai @ Oct 17th 2008 6:34PM
MvC2! MvC2!!!!!!!!!!!!
OmegaSlayer @ Oct 17th 2008 6:43PM
Now, for the sake of God, please all you Sony fans, please hear what I say, and if you like my idea, try to do something to let it arrive to Sony ears.
We have this Trojan Horse named LBP, full of player created contents.
What about DLC from 3rd party like Capcom, Sega, Tecmo, Konami, EA, Ubisoft, ecc...
Just imagine...3 $ for 10 levels created by the guys of the 3rd party software house plus stuff like wears for the sackboys (Dante, Strider, Snake, Sonic, Ryu Hayabusa, Belmont...and other legendary characters) and other stuff for the game, like vehicles, backgrounds and other templates to use for the creation of the levels.
If Sony shares the money 50/50 or even 60 to the devs and 40 for Sony, it would mean a lot of moneysacks with not too much work.
Who wouldn't buy a DLC every 2 week, imagine a month with Konami and Capcom DLCs.
With relatively few time devs could make lots of money thanks to Sony, and have more love for the PS3.
Can you imagine a level directly from Kojima with a Raiden sackboy?
If you like my idea, it doesn't matter if you rip it from me, if you sell it, or whatever :), just try to share with Sony speaking of it in every forum or board you visit.
This could only bring awesomeness to our beloved console.
Thanks
Brett from Atlanta @ Oct 19th 2008 2:14AM
You know what would be even more awesome, if those levels were free, or if you got prize costumes for completing them online. Serious, they dont need to charge us. If they want to shamelessly promote a new game they have coming out or something, then throw us some free levels to play online and let us win costumes, etc. for completing them.
Oxy @ Oct 17th 2008 8:30PM
Just bring the Resident Evil-serie onto the PSN-store and I'll be a very happy guy! :)
Gedaman @ Oct 18th 2008 5:14PM
Good for Capcom. They're my favorite publisher of all time! Completing Mega Man 9 was the most satisfying accomplishment I have ever made, so hard! Can't wait for more new downloadable games like the rumored Marvel vs. Capcom 2 'HD Remix'...
CarBoyCam @ Oct 19th 2008 4:04AM
This NOT the first time the Store has been rebranded.
When Burnout Paradise was released on the Store in Europe, the 'Latest' section was completely rebranded with Burnout Graphics.

Alexander @ Oct 19th 2008 1:06PM
no man capcom will have their own section of store burnout was just a huge advertisement of the game eventually disappearing lol
kentawilson @ Oct 19th 2008 10:14AM
The execs noted how the New Xbox Live Experience is likely the Microsoft's first priority on the digital front, and will pave the way for Capcom-branded pages.
That was written right after the last paragraph Andrew quoted. But it's a fanboy site so I guess I should see it coming even though I frequent this site for full news and not half assed news.
thegreatcity @ Oct 19th 2008 4:18PM
Don't know if I am the only one who noticed this, but it appears the Game section will be getting a search function just as the Video section has.
