More shmup action hits PSN: Astro Tripper
All of a sudden, it appears many independent studios are ready to show off their PSN exclusive goods. PomPom Games has revealed a PSN shoot-em-up called Astro Tripper. Once again, this is a retro-styled arcade game in the style of other horizontal side-scrolling shooters. According to the official site, the game will promise "UFOS. Fat Motherships. Tanks. Choppers. Slimy Slug creatures. Alien Insects. Aztec structures brimming with electricity. And of course, Big Bosses!"
This PSN release is scheduled to release "soon" (whatever that means), and will feature 1080p graphics, online leaderboards, and Trophy support.

I doubt this will even come close to Life Force.

Pom Pom Games are the guys who made the Mutant Storm games on XBLA. this game will probably be good as well
adolson @ Oct 17th 2008 9:37AM
They made Mutant Storm and Space Tripper way before XBLA came out.. I have them both for Linux from years ago.. Like 2001 or so. ;)
I'm buying this one, for sure. I like the shooters these guys do.

Image 2 looks like an exact replica of level one of Life Force...but a heck of a lot nicer.

Is easiest to develop a game for PSN that XBL/LIVE or Wiiware

So, whatever happened to Soldner-X? It was supposed to come out yesterday... before announcing new shmups, I'd like to hear about the ones already announced!

SAME HERE. Though, I am not really satisfied with 1942: Joint Strike, I am grateful we at least have that. I don't know about you, but I've written to Hudson a few times, asking for some kind of Star Soldier game for the PSN... We're finally getting Bomberman love, so maybe the vertical-scrolling shooter love is coming. We can hope.

Space Tripper (the original game) is actually much more like defender than life force. You can move back and forth on the levels, its not auto-scrolling. Similar to Adolson mentioned above, I also had both for linux - 2003 in my case. I played them both to death and beat them both. They were/are AMAZING games. Their mutant storm update is out for the 360.
