Online co-op in Resistance 2 might be too big [Update]
Who doesn't like a lengthy game? Resistance 2 is trying to give gamers an unprecedented amount of gaming content on one disc. The single player campaign, according to Insomniac, should clock in at 9-11 hours. It will take 18-24 hours to unlock all the single player Trophies. However, the much-loved online co-op mode will add another 10-15 hours of gameplay. If you want to level up your favorite class, expect to take 50-60 hours on that. And then, for the completionist, you'll want 150-180 hours to get all the upgrades for all three classes in online co-op.
Thank goodness you don't have to pay for online access on PSN, as we're sure there are going to be quite a number of people ready to take this MMO-like challenge. Also, we're glad we don't have to level up every class to unlock a Trophy -- that would've been disastrous.
Update: Corrected single player time estimates.

Nice to see some real use coming out of the blu-ray disc.
This game can't come soon enough!!!
doc j @ Oct 17th 2008 1:40AM
Dunno if that has much to do with the size of the blu-ray. More to do with clever mechanics.
I could be wrong though.
parkd @ Oct 17th 2008 12:54AM
Epic.
SandSpiderII @ Oct 17th 2008 12:58AM
That sounds like a lot of work. I hope I'll still have fun while dedicating all that time into the game. But everything I've seen so far looks amazing! Just got my beta code today, just gotta get home and download it.
Jon @ Oct 17th 2008 12:57AM
Im still waiting for my beta code to show up in my e-mail and some people already have their's
nakedatthecomp @ Oct 17th 2008 8:41AM
ditto :( I did the EB Games thing and sent my code in at least 2 weeks ago... still got nothin!
hplcman @ Oct 17th 2008 11:45AM
I just got my code from having a Qore subscription last night. I'm going to give it a shot after work today!!!
DyingFetus @ Oct 17th 2008 12:58AM
Are you kidding me!!! Ofcourse its not too big. I wish all games were longer, expecally Gears of War. That was the shortest game ever I thought. Iam all for long games, bring them by the herds.
Brett @ Oct 17th 2008 11:59AM
My thoughts exactly!! Ps3fanboy take down this wall errr post! Games are getting shorter, the longer the game (as long as it's good ;) ) the better!
I can't freakin wait!
Kspraydad @ Oct 17th 2008 12:59AM
I prefer single player offline so good to hear it is a decent romp.
JerJerBinks @ Oct 17th 2008 9:30AM
Let me tell you one thing ... you are going to love the online co-op. It's pretty fracking awesome.
Hife @ Oct 17th 2008 1:46AM
Too big? I am disappointed in you Yoon. I doubt I will ever accomplish such a feat, but a game can never be too big.
Side note... I got my beta code tonight! It's just taking a looong freaking time to download. I will probably have to postpone actually playing until tomorrow.
Andrew Yoon @ Oct 17th 2008 8:37AM
We're not saying it's a bad thing. It's like a statement of amazement: this might be TOO big. That's a good thing.
SxYSpAz @ Oct 17th 2008 8:36AM
WTF? this is the kind of shit I hate to see. Journalists and gamer's bitching about a long game????!?!?!?!? fuck co-op whores. 1 player games are easily still the best. How can co-op be considered epic? I love you insomniac for realizing the importance of one player mode. I don't care how many bastards shoot me down, you got my vote
gg @ Oct 17th 2008 5:41AM
bigger games online, means longer loading, less graphical detail, more lag, potentialially more crashes. If insomniac can sort these out I'm sure the game would be excellent.
desertpyrate @ Oct 17th 2008 1:59AM
I'm playing the beta right now and just took a break, its frickin sweet! I'm glad to own a PS3 and this game is arguably the main reason why, this is in direct competition with Gears of War 2 and it stands to hold its own, I'm glad this hasnt been a SOCOMish beta experience and INSOMNIAC put a lotta work into it.
I own all current/next gen systems and have had many gripes about the PS3's online set up but this game has the potential to change that. I hope the trophies integrate nicely into the game, Resistance 2 is easily a system seller now I hope Gears of War 2 lives up to the hype because Resistance 2 has thus far. I just hope the story is as good as this beta's multiplayer
McDoobie @ Oct 17th 2008 2:18AM
Don't think it can compete with Gears of War 2 at all. The original won GOTY in 2006 and the sequel is hyped to be better in every way. Resistance 2 isn't even on the GOTY radar.
desertpyrate @ Oct 17th 2008 2:31AM
Well, we'll have to see, I agree Gears is GREAT but its gotta live up to the hype, I'm personally pleased with Resistance so far, I'm just gonna have to play both. GEAR's multiplayer wasnt as addictive as Halo it had to grow on me but thats just my take, what sold me on Gears is the campaign and the co-op. I do disagree that Resistance 2 is definitely on the GOTY radar, IMHO the games to keep an eye out for are:
Gears 2
Resistance 2
Fable 2
Fallout 3
Far Cry 2
This is the year of the sequel
McDoobie @ Oct 17th 2008 2:54AM
Year of the sequel indeed, friend. I'm hoping I get an e-mail for the Resistance beta.
francisco @ Oct 17th 2008 2:05AM
Co-Op is so damn fun. It's a whole new experience. It's far way too different from any other FPS's Co-Op mode. This Co-Op is as if you were playing an MMO FPS. It has nothing to do with the story mode at all. It's tactical and challenging. Really fun when you have 8 people in the room with mic screaming HEAL HEAL! AMMO AMMO! REVIVE REVIVE! AAAAH! lol i played for 3 hours Co-Op mode. It's just something NEW
hmmmmmm mmmm beyotch @ Oct 17th 2008 3:36AM
Im in the beta and The co-op mode is the best I have seen from any game hands down.
AltCtrlPwn @ Oct 17th 2008 3:37AM
DAMN IF ONLY I HAD WOW ON MY PS3
Devil240Z @ Oct 17th 2008 4:24AM

I was about to upvote him because I thought he was making a joke, but then I looked at his history. It's not a joke...
Snarky @ Oct 17th 2008 8:26AM
I'm so glad this game is gonna be huge. Theres lots of quality games on both the PS3 and 360 that only last for about 15-20 hours, so its nice to hear of a game that takes a bit longer. Insomniac are definately a developer that look to the long term when it comes to online play. Just look at Warhawk.
Vcize @ Oct 17th 2008 9:54AM
Most shooters really start to drag after that 8-10 hour mark, even something as unique as Bioshock.
Hopefully they've got some amazing stuff in store to keep that 18-24 hour single player campaign interesting, or else there's no way I'll ever make it all the way through it.
kiljoy @ Oct 17th 2008 10:21AM
the co-op is amazing
8 players have to work as a team and need a balance of the 3 classes or your not moving past the first corner
this is what Co-op is mean to be
cant even see how the single player game will be better than the online co-op
the competive game is a lot of fun too
kinda what UT3 should have been deathmatch wise
great game in beta so far
blackbeard_ @ Oct 17th 2008 10:57AM
This looks like it is going to be crazy awesome. I think it is certainly a GOTY contender for sure. Can't wait to play!
I am really looking forward to it's integration with Resistance Retribution when that comes out too. Sicne I am hopefully going to get a PSP soon... finally :-/
money_mike_preme @ Oct 17th 2008 11:31AM
@snarky
you said to look at insominac in the long term and to look at warhawk but warhawk was made by incognito...i almost went to incog's building here in downtown slc with the problems that warhawk had...but they fixed every thing (i think and eventually) =)
damightyanteater @ Oct 17th 2008 11:47AM
Anyone who pre-ordered the game not get their d/l voucher via email yet?
I'm still waiting over here.
shawn @ Oct 17th 2008 12:02PM
Awaits somebody to figure out a boosting method and everybody calls everyone cheaters.
Paul @ Oct 17th 2008 12:48PM
Just a tip. For those that pre ordered through Gamestop.
You must go to the actual website for resistance beta. i think its something like register.myresistance.net - its on the card with the scratch off code . I was confused and tried to register the scratch off code with the official gamesite and that wont work. As soon as I entered my information on the correct website, it processed my information and the next screen gave me my R2 beta code to input and download from the PSN. hope this clears things up.
gillyy0 @ Oct 17th 2008 8:06PM
Looking forward to the co-op mode. Single player is good enough but now I can do it with a friend? Amazing. Even better now that I got my bluetooth headset ;]
