epic commercial for a not epic game. The commercial is great but the game doesn't deserve it. You can tell, when it cuts to scenes of the gameplay it's like wtf this doesnt really fit. the game looks "fun", but definitely not as incredimazing as the ad treats it to be.
i can almost agree, but then I think back to the halo3 ads.... wow those were so pretentious... the old guy talkin about master chief saving them or what not while in the museum. although i liked the music in them.
That was cool... It sparked some intrest for me... but unfortunately I am broke... and after spending $60 on the Socom "beta" its no games for me until after christmas
I agree that this was a little over-the-top for a game like Resistance 2. Sure, its got an "epic" story, but its not on the same level of hype that justifies this stuff, that games like Halo 3 get (the figurine display commercial that ended simply in the word "Believe.").
It looks like they're trying to artificially splice on some sort of religious/spiritual theme like the Halo advert had. Problem is, whilst thar fit with Halo's story, it doesn't fit with Resistance's.
It just fills tacked on and completely out of place.
And that's without even mentioning the awful over-acting...
Halo 3's ads weren't the religion angle though; they were pulling the war veteran angle with people in awe at their retrospectives with fighting alongside Master Chief and so on.
This may sound a bit like rationalization, but people commonly turn to faith in the face of obliteration, which is all the Chimera bring. Didn't see too many doomsday prophets or priests running around in Halo, unless you count the Covenant who were very much NOT on the side of man. It certainly doesn't seem to fit what we've seen so far, but you never know. Insomniac may have some tricks up their sleeves for R2.
I don't like that one as much as the Motorstorm one. The quick and sparse showing of footage doesn't portray confidence in the game. Its like in movies when they move the camera and change views frequently so you can't see the lacklustre acting or the stunt doubles.
I know thats not the reasoning behind them barely showing footage but thats what people might perceive.
Agree.. that motorstorm ad have cars jumping out of an airplane!!? where in the game can you do that!! and thats they whole point in the ad...just showing cars flying in the air..thats cool...but motorstorm not.
R2 comercial feels out of place too. Why are does people not like...in war? they are just sitting or walking in a desert. If they wanted to make this more R2 they should have made like a set where the city is destroyed and more adoc to the era R2 is portraying.
And how do you think those cars got to that Island? Good thing guys like you are not in advertisement, you don't know jack about what is a good commercial.
Honestly, they should be spamming on t.v., the one where the radio guy is doing a voiceover and you get to see all the game action shots. That ad was amazing. It's not really necessary to get live actors involved.
Yeah, it was an OK ad, but I personally hate the use of real actors in a video game ad. Not just here either but in general, I watched a Fable 2 ad the other day that contained nearly no in-game footage, and it makes me wonder why they even bother.
OK, first off, idiots that say this game isn't epic are just flamers, because the game isn't out yet, the games features alone make it about 2 times bigger then halo 3. The multiplayer is insane 30 on 30 allyway firefights are intense to be in, and 2 campains. This ad sucks and resistance 2 deserves better.
Soo... This game doesn't deserve the "Hype" but Halo3 did? ...give me a break, halo 3 sucked and is wayyyy over-rated. It didn't deserve the hype it recieved. It was still fun while it lasted though.
ad is awsome....i have the beta but ehhh. its cool i guess. i just bought the $12.99 darksector at newegg and feel more excited to play that....my bro cant get enough of R2 thought.
They're simply showing that prophet-types forsee the coming desecration and are warning us, as all prophets do. Would have liked a better visual of the giant boss.
I've got all three consoles and tend to give my PS3 the most love but son'y marketing strategy for this generation has been abysmal. This commercial for one doesn't show enough gameplay and onto of that there's nothing compelling about the actors or the message they're trying to convey. The game takes place in 1945 overrun by aliens, nothing other than the short gameplay sequences even hint at that. If i were to go into this commercial knwoing nothing about R2 i'd think it had some sort of mythological context to it.
One thing that MS has does right this gen has been spamming their big games and coming up with poignant commercials for them. Honestly i'd rather have the creepy baby than this, or the crows, at least those were visually arresting and while htey might not have been great commercials the fact that they've stayed with us means that at least they struck a chord...albeit a creepy one. The commericals for MGS4 for that matter also sucked. There was no sense of drama, nor did it live up to that "summer blockbuster" movie tralier they were going for. The game did live up to that expectation but you wouldn't have known it from the commercial. I'd rather they had shown the trailer with old snake about to kill himself.
They just Played this During Fringe on FOX......12 Million Viewers of this show........Thats good Product placement......not to mention that Fringe only has like 4 minutes of commercials so Sony had to pay a pretty penny for that ad space.....lol
I do think Resistance warrants that "epic" feel, but these actors just make it seem so hokey.
And I agree w/ the guy that preferred the R2 radio trailer. Considering the setting of this game, I was hoping they'd play up the whole 50s sci-fi movie angle.

Actually I think this ad does a better job at scaring me than the "Creepy Baby Doll" commercials.

That is amazing, I never thought that this game would give us so much to desire for!
Can't wait to put my hands on it!

This's the kind of thing that would make people who don't play games at all think that gamers are weird and crazy.
The game footage doesn't to the game justice. And why is Resistance 2 not epic? Halo wasn't epic.
*throws up flame wall*
Dehshizknight @ Oct 21st 2008 7:18PM
That ad was freaken EPIC! I saw some LittleBigPlanet ads on NBC and ABC already and I hope to see this one along with (possibly) some more SOCOM love.

I rate this commercial slightly above the very first Tomb Raider commercial. Tho it still made me cringe.
I wouldn't put it in the same league as the MGS4 and Halo 3 ads tho.
