Firmware 5.01 fixes your big memory stick woes
How's that direct-connect PSP Store working out for you? What's that? You have problems downloading stuff to your 8GB or 16GB memory stick? It says there's insufficient space? But that's preposterous, there's plenty of room. That's a bug, right there. Thankfully, it hasn't gone unnoticed at Sony HQ as they're issuing a new firmware revision to fix the problem. From the sounds of it that's pretty much all version 5.01 will do when it releases "soon." Everyone thank Uncle Sony for fixing the problem so speedily. We'll be sure to notify you once the firmware update is available.

i have 2 gig and i have 600mb left and it wont let me download the socom tatical strike demo witch is less than 500mb
lorddshadow @ Oct 21st 2008 10:42PM
yeah i had 350mb left on my 4 gb and it said there wasn't enough room for beats which is like 250mb.
Fane @ Oct 22nd 2008 1:26AM
You need 2x the space: for download and installation. At least that's how it works on PS3.
Paul @ Nov 29th 2008 6:29AM
I tried to use 1.5 firmware to launch a game it recognises the game and launch1.5 but then says the data is corruopt it that do to the firmware version i am using?
jason @ Oct 21st 2008 8:58PM
I was even getting that same error on my 1gb memory stick even though I easily had enough memory. I got around the error by downloading to my ps3 first.
pat1202003 @ Oct 21st 2008 8:59PM
I been getting weird errors like this too sometimes too. Sony just can seem to come out with a update without having to come out with another about less than a week later.

I have a 1GB stick with 850MB of space left on there and I can't download Jeane d'arc which is only 670 (or something close)
Is it possible to download the file to PC first and transfer to the PSP?
If not I hope this patch fixes this problem.
the_greatbur @ Oct 21st 2008 9:42PM
The PSP never read my 8gig card for anything but music and video's the only time i saw a firmware read it for games and saves and theams was 3.71 m33-1 (and -2 and -3) and i couldn't get the plug in to work for the 8 gig support so guess what firmware my PSP slim is running
kswitch265 @ Oct 26th 2008 6:53PM
after u bought the card did u format it on the psp b4 puttin stuff on cuz ur suposed to for it to make all the files
atastysammich @ Oct 21st 2008 10:11PM
Weird--I haven't had any problems with my shiny new 8GB stick. Clearly, I haven't been downloading enough.
Kspraydad @ Oct 21st 2008 10:20PM
Those of you having issues with the downloading...
You need DOUBLE the free space as compared to the DL size...
Why...
You have to DOWNLOAD it...then you need the space to actually INSTALL it...after installation the DL file is erased.
So...to DL Jeane D'Arc you NEED a 2GB stick (as an example).
At least...this makes 'sense' to me.
Brandon @ Oct 21st 2008 11:50PM
Thats how I understood it too. It worked once I roughly doubled the amount of space needed for the file.
JerJerBinks @ Oct 22nd 2008 9:55AM
The easiest way to get around this is to buy the games though the PS3 Store, install them to your PS3, and then just copy them over.
If you don't have a PS3, then you can ignore this message.

a 16 gig card? damn, thats alot of memory. Anyone notice the hidden features of 5.00 not mentioned here?
themizarkshow @ Oct 22nd 2008 5:22AM
huh... I have a 16gb memory card for my 2000 model psp and I haven't had a single problem downloading stuff. I do have like 10gb left though. Maybe it only affects you if you're below a certain point of memory.
meskibob @ Oct 22nd 2008 7:53AM
Firmware 5.01 is now available
TM @ Oct 22nd 2008 9:56AM
what's the link? I checked Sony's website and they still have 5.00 posted.
quikster @ Oct 22nd 2008 1:23PM
Yep, I went to update to v5.0 since it has the store and I was never able to get it to connect via my computer and it downloaded v5.01
LM2007 @ Oct 22nd 2008 9:22AM
I recently purchased a 8GB stick and used the store yesterday without problems, and btw, the store seems to load quicker than surfing with my pc so..why not to add other features or functions instead of a "fix" for something that seems is not broken.
hppypnts @ Oct 22nd 2008 9:39AM
Yup I was able to grab 5.01 last night =)
xgk3000 @ Oct 22nd 2008 12:40PM
yo 8gb is only 44.49 at frys.com and shipping only like 6.32 for and live all the across the us in ny so it should be less for u guys that in between since frys is base in cali here's the link but get it quick they go fast but save the link if u missed because they change the price alot http://shop1.frys.com/product/5560870?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Gurbinder @ Oct 22nd 2008 3:42PM
lol id rather wait for the 16 gig to drop. Better yet, wait for psp 2 and HOPEFULLY internal hard drive disk of atleast a few gigabytes would be enough. Plus that would increase sales for Sony alot. Just like the ps3 with the 40 gig and 80 gig, let the psp hdd change too with 8 gig hdd or 16 hdd giving you more options.
Now theres an idea i could live with
Mazrael @ Oct 22nd 2008 1:23PM
I have at least 3.5GB left on a 4GB..
maybe it's just the English store, but I can't find anything worth downloading.. and there's certainly no games worth my money either over here..
myuusmeow @ Oct 22nd 2008 7:31PM
I'd pay full price for either of the Syphon Filter games, let alone $16 and $25. Best PSP games IMO.
grace @ Oct 22nd 2008 6:36PM
Hi!
Is PSP3000 "scanlines" really annoying, too visible?
Is PSP3000 "scanlines" affect on all games installed?
Is PSP3000 are able to install games like on PSP2000?
Is PSP3000 are overheating?
Hoping for your kind reply.
PSP3000 could be my first PSP.
Thanks. (TSUPP!)

Annie @ Nov 2nd 2008 8:57AM
Ok I know this isn't the right subject. But I recently downloaded 5.01, and when I click on it with my psp I just get 3blank screens, and it doesn't want to update at all. Can someone just tell me what the prob might be, or where I can find some help?
meimei @ Nov 15th 2008 6:49PM
I have a brand new psp. I have the firmware update (5.01) and still have that problem it supposedly fixed. When I try to download a game I just get a message saying not enough free space... bla bla When it is a blank card and the game is only 525 mb. I did all they suggested on the support phone line. Formated the stick, restored psp default settings, etc. They told me to borrow someone's stick and see if it works or buy a new one and see if it is the stick (is that lame or what?) Then they told me to send the psp and memory sitck in to them to see if they can fix it(but didn't tell me where to send it before they hung up). When I asked if that doesn't fix the problem can I at least get a refund for the game (since the game would be the 'broken item' and not my psp or stick). They said no, they don't do refunds. So beware when buying any downloadable games from the psp store.
