PSP-3000 sold over 140K in first four days

PSP Brite is now out worldwide, so how's it doing everywhere else? In Japan (where the PSP is the sacred deity of 4-player co-op), it seems that not too many are catching on to the new hardware; only 141,270 units were sold in the first four days of sale (Oct. 16-19).

As PSPHyper points out, these numbers are not that impressive when compared to the PSP Slim's initial sales numbers which were 250,702 for the first week with 130K of that from the first day alone. With relatively slow sales figures and seemingly disastrous performance issues, it looks like the PSP Brite is getting off to a very rough start.

What did you expect? The PSP-2000 was a pretty significant change from the 1000 series, and since the 3000 is not that different aesthetically, I'm pretty sure no one even noticed that it's a new model.

I think many people bought the 2000 because it was the first slimmed down version of the PSP, as well as its advertised faster CPU (Which was always shown in dozens of comparison vids)...Now that it has nothing more to offer other than the bright screen to play better in sunlight (Which is not actually a problem to many people), people will wait for reviews or anything of the like..

I also think it's partially due to the fact that people just don't want to get newer PSP's anymore given the current trend. A hardware revision in a little over a year? (Or even under? I can't remember the 2000's original release date). With the way things are going, even a person like myself would not even come close to even wanting a 3000 due to the fact that a 4000 will be coming out next year, and maybe a 5000 the year after.

With the petty updates the 3000 brings, it's really a waste of time shelling any more money when most of the updates are purely cosmetic.

I see what you are saying and there is some truth in what you have said. Sony a few month back said they wanted to be the Apple of the Video game world.

In case you do not know what I mean Apple brings out a new ipod, iphone almost every year and that is what Sony wants to do to.

So Sony wants to bring out a new PSP and will still support your old PSP but a newer one will come out later and have newer features and still be a PSP without becoming a PSP2.

So the old PSP will still play games and the new one might have a new feature the old one does not have but when it comes down to it both PSPs will still play games no matter what new feature gets added.

Just like the ipod. The old ipods could listen to music and then a newer one came out that allowed you to play games. The older one could not do it but the thing the ipod was made for still worked. Then the ipod got a video feature the old one could still listen to music and if you wanted to watch a film you could buy a new one for that but if you only wanted to listen to music you could still do that and keep your old ipod.

I know that does not make it easy. But that is what I see Sony doing. These new features are nice but if you are fine with what you have you have no need to buy another PSP.
