Help SackBoy and LittleBigPlanet make Pluto a real planet again

This political season, take action for a cause you believe in. That's right: help Pluto become a planet again! You see, when we were your age, Pluto used to be a planet. But now, this little not-so-big planet has been downgraded to the status of a "dwarf planet." For denizens of other small-ish planets, this is an outrage. Discrimination!

Thankfully, you can take action. Visit Proposition Pluto to find out more about the cause. Do your part and spread the word!

Of course Pluto is a planet.. then it has a moon called Charon.. half it's size.. so whether it count's as a moon, or a twin planet I'm not sure.. but, they should just keep changing stuff.. those scientists come out with some crap... next thing you know, potatoes are bad for you, Dinosaurs were domesticated by man and had saddles & the year is only 5000 years old.. pft, idiots..

The fact that we know Pluto even exists is quite an impressive scientific feat, considering it's just a small dot in the sky. Deciding whether or not it's a planet isn't science, it's just stamp collecting.

now what is good.. they found planets in other star systems.. some which are much bigger than us.. now Earth should be re classified as a dwarf planet.., or should they be giant planet..

It IS involved with Sony. Read the website's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. If you're referring to how, other than that, there's no connection to the Sony or Mm websites, then you must not know how viral marketing works.

Yeah, this looks a bit dodgy. It links to the Sony PlayStation terms of service and privacy policy, but it is registered under Porter Novelli, some PR firm. Have Sony ever used them before? I would've thought that not only would there be the ESRB rating, but the Sony, PS3 and Mm logos along the bottom too if it was really official.

pluto shouldn't be a planet. it's not about size, it's about the eccentricity and plane of its orbit. it clearly was not formed at the same time as the other planets from the accretion disk. thus it is not a planet, but a captured rogue planetoid. science has got to have standards.

Yes, the site is official. As someone else pointed out, Porter Novelli (PR company) are behind it and do a whois DNS lookup to see that for yourself. It won't be on MM's site as I think it would have been commissioned solely by Sony. Pluto isn't considered a planet anymore because it doesn't have orbital dominance. In order to be considered a planet you need to follow 3 guidelines and Pluto lacks the 3rd. It lies in the Kuiper Belt along with 2 others. 1 lies beyond the Kuiper Belt and is actually bigger than Pluto. Another one lies in the Asteroid Belt in between Mars and Jupiter. So if you consider Pluto a planet you need to add the other ones as well.

That is why they are all not considered a planet anymore. And if you do consider it, then you need to add the other 4 or 5 along with it

Pluto does not meet the definition of a planet. It is not a planet. Give it up people. I'm tired of people who don't know shit about astronomy whining about Pluto not being a planet anymore.

To Llowell: There are many people who are very knowledgeable about astronomy, including over 300 professional astronomers who signed a formal petition, who believe Pluto IS a planet. The definition that requires orbital dominance was adopted by only four percent of the International Astronomical Union in a highly controversial vote that did not even follow the group's own bylaws. Most who voted are not planetary scientists. Many planetary scientists don't belong to the IAU and so had no say in this at all. Leading the petition rejecting the IAU definition is Dr. Alan Stern, Principal Investigator of NASA's New Horizons mission to Pluto and one of the world's top experts on Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. That third requirement of orbital dominance is highly problematic, as it defines objects solely by where they are rather than by what they are. Many planetary astronomers prefer a broader planet definition that states that any object in hydrostatic equilibrium--in other words, with enough self-gravity to pull itself into a round shape--that orbits a star is a planet. Dwarf planets should simply be considered a subclass of planets that do not gravitationally dominate their regions. Yes, that makes Ceres, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris planets too, for a current total of 13 planets in our solar system.
