Bioshock 2 officially on PS3, goes multiplatform
By now, you must have seen the footage of that BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams teaser trailer. The trailer, which supposedly gets unlocked after beating the newly released PS3 title, led people to believe that the aquatic adventure's second voyage would also make a PS3-bound journey. Dispelling rumors, 2K Games confirmed to Gamespot that Sea of Dreams will be a multiplatform release "destined for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC platforms."
2K did not specify whether this multiplatform announcement meant a simultaneous release across all platforms. The PS3 version of the first BioShock launched exactly one year after its 360 counterpart. It wouldn't be surprising to see a similar case of timed-exclusivity happen again.

Actually I WOULD be surprised if it was timeds...I also hope they can manage to find an engine that uses the PS3 as the lead.

I think by now it's a little obvious 2K are looking to be neutral when it comes to the Bioshock franchise.
Just because they don't say something, doesn't mean it'll happen.
Why go through all the effort of announcing the sequel, and confirming it for the PS3 ... BEFORE the 360 version, when it's a timed release?
I don't get it. To me it just sounds a little silly to assume MS will bother a second time round.
Anyway, that's just my two cents.

Hold the phone. Why would they announce the game via a teaser trailer on the PS3 game, yet not launch the game on that platform? That sounds like a bad PR move. I'm predicting the same release date for all 3 versions.
Jacksons @ Oct 25th 2008 9:51AM
Yeah no kidding. That seems like the obvious choice here.
Kellian @ Oct 24th 2008 8:33AM
Even if there ends up being more timed exclusivity, I kind of hope that it won't take them a full year to bring it to the PS3.
Sauvage @ Oct 24th 2008 8:39AM
Isn't the original game already multi-platform considering that it is currently already out on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC?
Btw, it might take them less time to get it out on the PS3, but the Unreal Engine was never built from the ground up to work on on the PS3, so expect the same sub-par port.
Miguel @ Oct 24th 2008 8:52AM
Subpar port? I havent heard anything about it being a subpar port. IGN's review said it was pretty much technically identical.
Monkey Majiks @ Oct 24th 2008 8:57AM
It isnt a sub par port, its actually Better graphically in places, and otherwise the same.
And talk of "..Unreal Engine was never built from the ground up to work on on the PS3.." is just crazy when you look at how far back UT was being demoed for the PS3.
far too much negativity, without any point of reference.

Anyone else getting tired of hearing that it is too hard to develop for the PS3? I mean just because Microsoft releases the Xbox 360, which is no more "Special" than an average gaming desktop, nowadays. Not to mention the tool set allows them to click, Compile for PC or 360. I say if your gonna belly ache about having to intelligently code your software to run efficiently, in a multi-threaded environment. Then you haven't EARNED my money.

Also Bioshock is amazing!

Booya!

With a 5 GB installl it's basically just downloading the xbox game to the ps3 hard drive.
UT3 didn't have to install ... so maybe i the ps3 is the lead platform for Bioshock2 we won't have a install.
The1stMJC @ Oct 24th 2008 1:02PM
Yeah a timed exclusive for this seems dumb since it was announced on the PS3 version. Yes I know PS3 version was released later but why put it there at all if it just a year after 360 gets it. They could of easily have leaked the trailer on their site and than it wouldn't be a big deal but to release it on the PS3 version makes it appear that it will not be timed.
ps92117 @ Oct 24th 2008 2:46PM
i hear that it is easier to port from ps3 to 360 so would not be a bad idea to do it in ps3 than 360 port anyway i dont like bioschock but as long as it make 360 fan angry it makes me feel a bit more conftarble with ff13 oh and bungie is going platform and epic is being bought out which would mean they may also go multi with gears
IHateBioshock @ Oct 25th 2008 12:49AM
My Name says it all... though I will hold out a little hope that they actually completely revamp the game to address it's MANY shortcommings (esp on PC which is my prefered format for FPS games). Bioshock was flawed badly, let's hope they learned SOMETHING.. but I doubt it.
SytheMaster @ Oct 26th 2008 3:54PM
May I ask what was so flawed about it? It was my favourite shooter of '07
