EA hints at Dead Space movie and sequel

Not only novels and toys, but Schofield is also "talking with movie studios right now. We have been all along. By doing this now, we could have a movie that bridges the gap between the two games." Hold on, did he say "two games"? It's obvious they're willing to franchise the hell out of this game, but it's also clear they're not willing to compromise on quality.
Schofield goes on to say that "the difference with this is we need to go in and say, "This is not a $10 million movie." Sure somebody could make it, but that's not what we are looking for. It's an expensive movie. What we're doing, say, with movie producers is handpicking our producer. We get approval on the scriptwriter, director and those sorts of things." We're really enjoying Dead Space and would love to see a live action feature film and a sequel, as long as they're not shameless cash ins. From the looks of it, that's the last thing the dev team wants. We look forward to further developments.
In the same article EA's president, Frank Gibeau, mentions sequels for both Battlefield: Bad Company and Army of Two. No specific details were given regarding the whats and whens.

Dead Space rocks! This is an excellent game and very well done. The level of detail is impressive. If you only play one game this year, other than LBP and R2 of course, this is the game.

A game novel? Ahn... no thanks.

I see this turning out like the Doom movie. Bad.
jarhead906 @ Oct 24th 2008 12:40PM
Doom the movie wasn't entirely bad. The FPS sequence was very well done and stands as a tribute to anyone who enjoyed growing up with the game.
Other than that, it was pretty lame in some parts. Another movie that screwed up common phrases that the Marine Corps use. It's not "Hoo-Hah". Its "Oorah!". Damn that pisses me off. Only 2/169 movies of late have actually been accurate.

I'm very glad they are making a second game. A movie I'd definitely see but who is involved in its production will make a big difference on if I like it or not.

Tim: spoilers, chief!
Not that it matters for me, but someone who hasn't complete the story might care.

i think with Doom it was crap cuz they took a game with one guy and added others,. plus they messed him up to start with they went weird with it.
This as alot of potential lets just hope it doesnt slip away to much. After all he said Fill a gap between games, so it can be a great movie without needing to copy a game, but yet lead into the next game.
See that's the problem with movies based on games they try to do whats in a game in a movie, but this would be different then that . Lets just hope the right people are at the helm.
the Movie Red Planet (the one with the mars mission) Val Kilmer I personally loved that movie and that comes to mind here.

the logs you get for chapter 12 after beating the game hint at what the sequel will be about.
Popfrogs @ Oct 24th 2008 12:38PM
As great as this game is, the storyline, setting, and everything about it is highly derivative of other best-selling films and games.
Take some Alien/Aliens, add a dash of The Thing, mix in some Half Life2, add a pinch of Doom3, bake at 375 for 12 minutes, done.
Therefore I don't think it'll make that great of a movie even though it is an excellent game. The story just isn't that interesting.

I just got this game yesterday and it is bad-ass. This is my first try at survival-horror and I love it. When I play it at night I'm on edge the entire time.

Lots of exciting news for just a small post. BF:BC 2, Army of 2 2 (lol), and Dead Space 2?! =D
I don't think DS itself though requires a movie. As Popfrogs said, it's highly derivative of several different movies that have already been made.
And about cheap cash-ins....ummm...what was Downfall supposed to be then?
