Four more Burnout Paradise updates incoming
Checked out CriterionGames.com recently? You might have noticed that they've completely revamped the site. Not only does it look swish and sexy, but it harbors some interesting information about upcoming Burnout Paradise content. You know, that game which came out in January but which people are still playing today? The game that's had copious amounts of free downloadable expansions and which was the first third party disc-based title to patch in trophies?
Four new expansions are listed on the "coming soon" section of the new Criterion Games website. While at the moment they're simply numbered packs, they will be unveiled, one by one, over the next four fridays, starting on October 31st. The only other information we're given about these packs is that we expect to see them arrive in Spring 2009. So after all this year's great games are played and forgotten, we're convinced we'll still be playing Burnout Paradise well after a year since release.
We'll keep you informed as and when these expansion packs are unveiled.
[Thanks Andrew Gaspar]

Not expecting them to all be free but the support is A1...
Hey Capcom...THIS is how you do DLC.
Bob @ Oct 24th 2008 8:50PM
Capcom is full of shit to charge me 1$ for another mode. I know its not much to spend, but what the fuck?! Burnout can release these great things but other companies cant?!
Kattleox @ Oct 24th 2008 9:19PM
Nice avatar, Kspraydad!
Well, at this point, paying fifteen bucks for an expansion of a new island, which they have announced, would be great, but I bet that it won't be even that. It's funny to me that you can pick up a copy of Burnout for $20 and the Oblivion Shivering Isles expansion is $30. Criterion is called Criterion for a reason, apparently.

I would have no objections to paying for Burnout DLC at this point. They've already gone way, WAY beyond anything I would have expected.
Kspraydad @ Oct 24th 2008 10:40PM
Thanks Kattlekox...I use it everywhere! I'm hoping for a SackToro for LBP!

"I would have no objections to paying for Burnout DLC"
I would have paid right from the get-go, Criterion are simply just one of those sutdios. However I am happy to download these excellent updates. They really need to think of opening a donation option on their website, because I would seriously be giving them some coin.

Where are my Airplanes? haha
My friend still doesn't believe me..
Daniel @ Oct 24th 2008 9:00PM
Watch the CrashTV video on the Burnout Paradise page at the top. Near the end is some airplane footage.
lorddshadow @ Oct 24th 2008 8:29PM
wow. criterion...you have just become my favorite dev. i love you. if you guys read this blog, please listen to this itty bitty teeny weeny complaint: it's frustrating to have to drive all the way back to an event starting point to restart the event. can you include a quick event restart thing? that would be great! i'm just surprised at the amount of updates already. so that's not necessary. keep up the great work! i might have to buy a couple of copies for my friends... :)
sparc @ Oct 24th 2008 11:24PM
you think they haven't heard that before? if you didn't have to drive back or pick another event losing wouldn't hurt so much and thats why its perfect. you feel relieved and satisfied that you've won!
the only mistake crition made with this game was making the trophies too easy, I should get them for elite licence and completing all 490 challenges.
lorddshadow @ Oct 25th 2008 1:18AM
oh i know they've heard it. but that pain of being second by like a foot and having to drive all the way across paradise gets very annoying. and its a minor complain anyways so it doesn't matter too much to me.
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 25th 2008 6:32AM
If it was in from the start no-one would learn the city properly, driving back or somewhere else embeds that huge map in your brain eventually.
Maybe when you get your Burnout licence it would be good, especially as you get towards the end.
Gambit07 @ Oct 24th 2008 8:45PM
I was expecting Burnout to land me my 1st Platinum, but I got LBP and the rest is history channel 5 fingers of doom.
iamkid @ Oct 24th 2008 9:48PM
thats it, this game has offically won my 'buy' award. im going to get it for christmas. im kinda disappoited i didnt already, im a big fan of the series
il_duce620 @ Oct 24th 2008 10:20PM
I downloaded it via PSN when I got my PS3 a month ago and have enjoyed it immensely. It was "good enough" with the updates thus far, but the fact that they're doing four more updates...that's ridiculous...
Criterion...you...you complete me...
IHateBioshock @ Oct 25th 2008 12:46AM
Easily the most engrossing game on PS3 right now. I've spent many many hours online and off with this game and still not bored of it. Online (Free on ps3 I may add ;) ) has brought some of the funniest moments in my gaming history. There's a real sense of fun online and even co-operation. The updates just make it perfect. Everyone should own this game, esp PS3 owners!
Game_playa @ Oct 25th 2008 1:06AM
WHY? (Do you hate Bioshock)?
hpdedriver @ Oct 25th 2008 1:18AM
How about the option of turning off DJ Douche's voice? I hit the mute button when I hear that Seacrest wannabe.
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 25th 2008 6:33AM
Its right there in the options dude.
Tristan @ Oct 25th 2008 1:18AM
So when is Burnout Next going to coming out, this is insane if they are concentrating all their energy into this.
I need this BUrnout Next and the actual GT5 to complete my racing needs and neither of which have been talked about.
Pedro @ Oct 25th 2008 3:33AM
Split-screen for p1 vs p2 would be wonderful.
Think Adrian @ Oct 25th 2008 4:29AM
So they don't have play-with-your-real-friends mode yet... No buy points then. Sorry. I really like their dedication to release great DLCs though
Shinogu @ Oct 25th 2008 6:17AM
Split-screen with a circuit race track I can get, but what if one of you two got in a giant crash, or both of you crashed? There must be some logistics holding up Criterion in terms of rendering slow-motion in one side of the screen and keeping it real-time on the other. Plus, what would that mean for the person who didn't crash? Does he magically slow down too?
PSN ID -- TheUnforgivenII @ Oct 25th 2008 12:04PM
If they deserve, I'd pay for all of them.
Go Criterion Go!! :p
thomas pompeo @ Oct 26th 2008 10:19AM
On the new site there is no mention of the island pack. Any one know what is going on whit it?
Nate L. @ Oct 26th 2008 1:59PM
Island here:

When I was playing Burnout last night I finally realized how/why Criterion is making all these free updates - they're paid for by the in-game advertising. They've likely discovered that the updates 1) stop people from selling the game at stores 2) bring players back to the game. More players means more ad impressions from the various vans and billboards around the city, which brings them more money so they can fund the next update and start the cycle all over.
I think Burnout is probably one of the best examples of how in-game advertising can be beneficial to the player and publisher; I think the ads in the game make the city a lot more realistic.
