PlayStation Store for PC reopens with Media Manager 3
The new PlayStation Store for PC has opened, and it looks good. Once again, it's limited to Windows PCs. This time, it'll require the installation of the free Media Manager 3.0 software. After a brief installation and registration process, you'll be able to access the PlayStation Store directly from the interface. Anyone that has used the PS3 version of the PlayStation Store will be quite familiar with the layout of the Store.
Other features of the Media Manager include the ability to transfer music and photos to your system through a simple drag-and-drop interface. You'll even be able to rip music off of audio CDs directly onto your system. You'll also be able to back up for save and game data. Overall, we'll say the new Media Manager software is great -- especially with its current price tag.
Update: A new video walkthrough is available, after the cut.

both psp direct store and this look good. Now release games.
Kspraydad @ Oct 28th 2008 11:21AM
The image in this article indicates that videos will be part of the store for PSP now? Grace Chen said next year.
Can a US based user confirm...are videos now part of the PSP store?
Andrew Yoon @ Oct 28th 2008 11:46AM
You can access both videos and games from the PlayStation Store (US).
Kspraydad @ Oct 28th 2008 11:54AM
So isn't THAT the bigger story?
How about WiFi direct...did they add video to that too?
Andrew Yoon @ Oct 28th 2008 11:56AM
Videos have been a part of the PC Store since the feature was introduced. This is just restoring that service.
Wi-fi Store will most likely never have video (the files are simply too big).
Kspraydad @ Oct 28th 2008 12:00PM
Thanks Andrew...being IP blocked in Canada sucks when you are trying this stuff out. Cheers.
xtole @ Oct 28th 2008 2:23PM
Use a proxy server to bypass the IP block.
TM @ Oct 28th 2008 11:48AM
this is probably just for the pc store.
Kspraydad @ Oct 28th 2008 12:02PM
Likeing the software so far...runs slow just like iTunes :).
Wish is would indicate somewhere how far along it was in scanning your content...maybe it is slow due to that still going on.
Anyone know if this will convert my .divx to PSP format on the fly or do I still need Media Coder etc.
Andrew Yoon @ Oct 28th 2008 12:05PM
The free version of Media Manager doesn't include a video converter. Or at least I don't think it does.
Kspraydad @ Oct 28th 2008 12:08PM
So...basically I won't change any of my current habits if that is the case...looks pretty though.
I wonder how many people are thinking...Sony software = Sonicstage = oh damn, I HAVE to install this!
Noticed they didn't address Mac or X64 users with this either.
aeron @ Oct 28th 2008 12:12PM
I got suckered into buying the original psp media manager... does this mean I get a refund?
Andrew Yoon @ Oct 28th 2008 1:31PM
You'll get an upgrade to the Pro version for free.
aeron @ Oct 28th 2008 2:43PM
cool, thanks
atastysammich @ Oct 28th 2008 1:00PM
Bah, the thing wants me to download Quicktime! Nuts to that, I use the Alternative codecs for a reason!
Gurbinder @ Oct 28th 2008 3:32PM
Im not downloading quicktime. I have a thing against it. I can live without the store.
Don @ Oct 28th 2008 4:32PM
Download Quicktime??? Like the latest version or something? Why does it need that?????
I knew it would only take a quick scroll through the comments to find Sony's strings attached....
WolfBangaz888 @ Oct 28th 2008 10:33PM
obviously to play mp4 videos since windows media player can't.
Don @ Oct 29th 2008 1:48AM
But isn't it only Quicktime Pro (or whatever the PAID version is called) that can play AVC mp4 videos? Is that the version you have to buy?
I use the free VLC player to play my AVC mp4 videos... or my PSP of course...
Ed @ Oct 28th 2008 2:59PM
I hope RSS feeds between the PSP and the Media manager is better integrated.
Gurbinder @ Oct 28th 2008 3:28PM
they are still selling media manager in superstore... Damn it sucks being them
DarkAssaszin @ Oct 28th 2008 4:04PM
the media manager that they sell in stores has more features
DMeisterJ @ Oct 28th 2008 5:21PM
So how about updating the store once in a while Sony?
BurningChimaera @ Oct 28th 2008 7:38PM
Where is the OSX version?
So basically, if you have a Mac, no wifi, and no PS3, you have no way of accessing the store for the PSP.
That sucks, but I have a PS3 so I'm good.
But I'd still like to have the store on my Mac.
Chane.san @ Oct 28th 2008 7:39PM
It sucks that Sony hates Macs because I bought the Media Manager Pro Version last year to convert videos for my PSP but now that I have a Mac and my mom is always on the PC I never use it anymore. and I have a lot of anime I want to convert too.
andwhyisit @ Oct 29th 2008 3:32AM
"Hating" and "not caring" are two different things.
Chane.san @ Oct 29th 2008 4:29AM
Well whether they hate Macs or just don't care the point is there is no kind of support on Macs when it comes to PlayStation. I mean, I was able to go and log-in to the American website but then I couldn't go at all and now I can get on the website but I can't log-in. Can't go to the PlayStation Store Anymore> But can anyone now that they have they released Media Manager? I know I couldn't download anything from the store on my Mac but it was still nice to be able to quickly see whats new. Well I just think Sony needs to get its $hit together because PlayStation homepage on the PSP is never updated, they have RSS feeds on there blog but those are never updated or just don't on the PSP, there aren't many good games, no support for Mac users, nothing on the PS Store, no improved camera in the US like they said, still no GPS in the US, no 1seg in the US (and I think they could do it if they try because my brother's cellphone can), no Bleach, none of the original Talkman games, no PlayStation Spot (I heard this was coming to the US), 2 PSP hardware update and Still no second analog stick.
andwhyisit @ Oct 29th 2008 7:22PM
I understand where you are going with this. It is annoying that I can't see what's currently on the store without booting up my computer at home.
Daniel @ Oct 29th 2008 12:59AM
Wow, it's really nice, nice job Sony. Anyone can list me what you get with pro version?
Chane.san @ Oct 29th 2008 4:53AM
I believe its the same as the basic version, it just lets you convert more types of video formats because the basic version only lets you convert .wmv videos
Wayne @ Oct 29th 2008 4:59PM
The basic version won't let me convert wmv or avi. It's pretty useless. Sony should just release the whole program for free and be done with it.
Sony, stop F*^%ing around!
Lance @ Nov 5th 2008 8:39PM
Ok, how about Media Manager and Download Service sucks! Has anyone else contacted Sony about NOT being able to download stuff it gladly let's you pay for? I've tried two computers, multiple unloads and reloads, usb cables, etc. Finally someone from Sony says THEIR network is down for almost a week now. WTF?
Does anyone here have any knowledge as to this situation?
JCD3 @ Nov 7th 2008 11:02AM
