Unfortunately,
SOCOM Confrontation has been plagued with a number of game stability issues since release. The bugs have been significant, rendering the game unplayable in many situations. A patch tomorrow will fix a myriad of problems:
- Fixed many issues which would cause the game to crash, hang, disconnect and exit to the PS3 XMB.
- Fixed an issue which would cause large numbers of players in a high player count game to be simultaneously disconnected.
- Fixed an issue which would cause players to be invincible.
- Fixed a physics issue which would cause players to occasionally "warp" around on the map.
- Fixed an issue where a "corrupt save data" message would be incorrectly displayed after updating the game.
- Fixed some player model issues related to team swapping.
- Client/server optimization.
- Fixed an issue where the scope camera had an incorrect offset from the barrel of the gun while prone or leaning/peeking.

It was also plagued by players like me who bought the Headphone/SOCOM combo and then turned out to suck at SOCOM.

Keep at it. SOCOM is one of those games that will keep you coming back. I started in 2003 playing it and the first few games I would go 0-8 :D Trust me, practice, play unranked rooms so you don't loose rank and get crap stats, learn the maps, learn the guns. I personally love Confrontation. Amazing sequel. Server issues and game glitches happen in every game. Now, two first weeks done, the good stuff is coming.

Woot!! "Client/server optimization." That's the best one, plus all the other fixes mean that once my R2 Beta is done its back to the SOCOM baby, and if its still jacked up MGO I guess... not quite as quick and fast paced but still good (and better with a headset).

I didn't start out being great at SOCOM, but thanks to the beta I was ready at launch :D. Anyway, haven't run into many of these issues, just the last one. I hope the patch isn't that big of a d/l.

Why* the hell was it released with al those problems in the first place, it was like a bad beta rather than a quality release, I couldn't see how it was so crowded all day long, the game played like shit for me.

Sometimes companies are forced to rush an unfinished product out the door (generally by management). It happens. Do you think that Windows is complete when Microsoft releases it?
I was a beta tester and the product was not this buggy, but the key is that there were not as many beta tester as launch customers. There are bugs that sometimes you just cant account for until large quantities of people are playing your game. LOL, I remember the SW: Galaxies launch ... the game was practically unplayable for 2 weeks, as was WoW at launch.
Give it time, and you will be rewarded with a good gaming experience.

It's a shame that Slant Six and Sony allowed this game to come out with so many bugs. It is, however, an online only game so the argument about patches "not being an option" for some people is null. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the game, but I'm still having a great time playing it.

I've sold a game of 1 genre to buy a game of another genre many times, so not sure what your point is.
I'm just glad I decided to hold off on socom, I got LBP and Fallout 3 ( for the 360 ) and R2 is already paid for, those will keep me occupied for a while

My only problem was with freezing in 32plyr matches. this is a good step forward for slant six. assuming the patch actually works. the only problem is this should've been done during the beta phase, not 2 weeks after its retail release.

Invincible players, that's one of the reasons I stopped playing Socom on the ps2 and now on the ps3. Its ridiculous Socom are still plagued with that stupid glitch.

Its a shame, at core the game is amazingly good. And i'll say this now, if zipper were doing this i bet we wouldn't of had even a quarter of the problems slant six are having.
Oh well, its not out here till the 28th of november, lets hope its working fine by then.

Might actually play it now, but it's still in line behind fable 2, fallout 3, far cry 2 and midnight club. Too bad socom didn't evolve with the platform it's played on, it should have been a good game.

The sad thing 'bout it is how it got such bad reviews everywhere even though the issues with the game can and will be corrected. When this happens, we will still have an great game with horrible reviews everywhere - which will keep a lot of people from it.

Cool, I'm really interested in this game, and I'm looking to expand my PS3 game library, so it was a little disheartening to hear that this game shipped broken. Christmas is right around the corner, though, so this game still has a chance by me. :)

In my country the game istn't out yet, i dont even know when it comes. That sucks... So many people already playing the game and i dont even have it on my Playstation Store. (i dont have a credit card anyway).

Buy a gift card (VISA, AMEX, Mastercard etc.) and use them. They work just the same. Follow up by telling everyone who posts about this as I'm tired of hearing about this.
