The Beatles and MTV Games team up for a new game (not Rock Band!)

"This will not be a Rock Band game," a Harmonix rep clarified. Players will be able to see new kinds of gameplay unseen from Harmonix in this new game. There's no announcements on what kind of peripheral support the upcoming game will feature. There will be a strong focus on visual imagery -- we're expecting a "Yellow Submarine" type experience. It's planned for a holiday release ... next year.
"By presenting their music and artistry through the creative filter of a groundbreaking video game, we are giving legions of fans and music lovers all over the world a profound, new way to experience The Beatles," said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and Co-Founder, Harmonix. "This game will be a celebration of the Beatles undeniable legacy."

Lame...I was really hoping for some Beatles DLC for RB2. :(

The Beatles in "Running From Babes"

C'mon, if you think after a 17 month negotiation period that the only thing to come out of that is this stand alone game, you're kidding yourself.
It's more than reasonable to assume that Harmonix in addition to this game have signed a bunch of songs to be available through DLC.
davebo @ Oct 30th 2008 11:21AM
more than reasonable? More like wishful thinking, since it's pure speculation either way. It could be just as likely that Harmonix has wanted rb2 dlc for 17 months and all they could agree upon was a standalone game. I'm sure the property owners wanted to maximize profits, and if a standalone game nets them more than dlc then that's probably what they wanted.

And just a day ago I posted on PS3 Fanboy saying that The Beatles would never touch Rock Band material..
flarkle @ Oct 30th 2008 12:01PM
Personally, the only way I would touch this is if it were DLC as opposed to a stand-alone game. I think the stand-alone stuff is gimicky, and I am just not that into the Beatles to pay full price for another game that will most likely be just like Rock Band but trippier. I'm sure the $60 dollar price tag sounds great to them, but I highly highly doubt that they will see as much money from that as they would from a highly publicized batch of DLC. The economy situation is too messed up (and most likely still will be when this is released) to justify paying for yet another game just to play one band, at least in my opinion.

Maybe this will open the door for some rock bands to record incredible new cover versions of BEATLES songs just for ROCK BAND 2 !!!!
I nominate The FAB FAUX - the perfect band in 2008-2009 to re-record Beatles songs for Rock Band 2 because they always sound close to the original recording but always - always - go off on jams!
Either them, or get Aerosmith to do the new versions! Aerosmith does my favorite cover versions of Beatles songs like "Come Together", "Give Peace A Chance", "Helter Skelter" and "I'm Down"
edison234 @ Oct 30th 2008 10:46AM
Maybe it will include a sitar.
poprobot @ Oct 30th 2008 3:59PM
thanks for giving me a good lol chuckle today!
Beatles60-62 @ Nov 6th 2008 8:42PM
I thought it would be neat to have a plastic sitar, too.
How about a cowbell add-on for the song called "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey" ?
Brodie-san @ Oct 30th 2008 11:26AM
Hi Andrew. I was a little disappointed to see that you deleted my comment considering how much of a fan I (and everyone else at the site) are of PS3FB.
I just thought the readers here would have liked to find out some more information from someone who actually attended the press conference. Details such as mixing desk interactivity, Giles Martin's involvement, etc. etc.
Considering the site I am linked to is a charity site, where hits equal actual money going to worthy causes, I didn't think it would be an issue. Obviously not, so I won't post links in future.
(Feel free to delete this post as well of course).
poprobot @ Oct 30th 2008 3:59PM
I'd like to read about the press conference... any more info? feel free to send me the link Brodie-san!
Brodie-san @ Oct 30th 2008 7:27PM
Cool, I'm not going to pimp the site here though as I think it's bad form and, like I said, we're still big fans of PS3fanboy despite the decision to delete a comment that genuinely was for those who are interested in hearing a little more. Google "brodiesan" and "PS3" - we're pretty easy to find. Thanks
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 30th 2008 7:28PM
To me, it sounds like the posts you were trying to make shouldn't have been comments and maybe you should have talked directly to one of the submitters to see if they'd give it a mention themselves. Just like how, right now, you're making a comment that really needs to be done directly. This has absolutely no relevance to the subject at hand.
Brodie-san @ Oct 31st 2008 8:33AM
Very good point Linesbegintoblur.
I've never posted a link to the site before (as I've said, I personally dislike seeing people self-promoting on message-boards) but decided to do so due to the nature of the story. As we were updating every couple of minutes with new information as it was unveiled at the Press Conference I thought PS3Fanboys would like to find out more in real-time.
To close - it's no big deal. And, getting back on topic, here are a few points that were made at the conference for those who are interested and didn't bother to Google the site
;)
* Musical direction by Gilles Martin, George Martin's son.
* Full support by all surviving Beatles and the estates of those who have passed.
* The entire catalogue will be in the game and will include every album (and not the remixes, just the originals)
Looking forward to it myself and wondering how GH is going to respond.
Thanks!
Eliseo @ Oct 30th 2008 3:46PM
I am so getting this!
Jon Acheson @ Oct 30th 2008 12:26PM
Finally, the Beatles-centric fightin' game I've been waiting for!
Can't wait to unlock Yoko Ono's fatality (she sings).
poprobot @ Oct 30th 2008 3:58PM
thanks for the SECOND good lol chuckle I've had today!
Dr. Strangepork @ Oct 30th 2008 5:25PM
Could these be any *less* specifics in this announcement? Lame
linebeginstoblur @ Oct 30th 2008 6:20PM
Disappointed that it won't be Rock Band.
Happy that, regardless, it's still being done by Harmonix and that Activision won't get their dirty hands all over it.
Beatles60-62 @ Nov 6th 2008 8:47PM
I know this is wishful thinking (and there are so many fancy wishes that have never been fulfilled since the Beatles' break-up), but I think that the Beatles Live At The Star Club in Hamburg Germany would make better Rock Band material than their other albums!
(You gotta be an advanced level Beatles music aficionado to understand that one, btw, but maybe not.)
