Two Sackboy costumes available next week, more later

Are you ready for some LittleBigPlanet downloadable content? The game is now officially out in the US so goodies are going start piling on to the PSN Store, starting next week. First up are two costumes for SackBoy which will be available for a limited time. The "Launch" costume (which you already know about) will be available for free between November 6th and November 19th. A Halloween mask will also be available for free during the same period.
The latest PlayStation Blog post also gives us an indication of more DLC to come in the future. Focusing on costumes for now, there are going to be several price tiers which content can fall into. Special occasion costumes will be free, but only available for a certain time, while community designed costumes will be free of charge and remain on the Store to be downloaded at any time. Paid-for content will be made available with full costumes at $0.99 and "premium" costumes (like the Solid Snake and Sephiroth ones) costing $1.99 each.
There will also be rare content, which could be available for any length of time and for any price, as well as bundles for the paid-for content. Phew. LittleBigPlanet's going to cost us a lot of money in the long run isn't it? Especially when you consider the closing line of the PlayStation Blog post, which states "Stay tuned in a few weeks when we introduce a few more types of LBP DLC that will not only enhance your SackBoy, but expand your Pop-it tool with more objects, materials, stickers, sounds, music and even gameplay enhancements to keep the community refreshed with more creative options." Yes please!
Check out the post for yourselves for examples of future DLC.

I know I'm gonna get yelled at and flamed for this, but this is exactly what SC4 is doing ATM. If this game wasn't so highly rated and loved already, the entire gaming community would be in an uproar. Is the only reason we're tolerating nickel and diming is because it's LBP or some other reason...?
Jonathan @ Oct 30th 2008 6:17PM
It is pretty much the same reason and yeah, probably the main reason it's okay is because it is LittleBigPlanet. But also, they are giving some costumes for free and I think most of them are cheaper than the SC4 costumes.
Nathanical @ Oct 30th 2008 6:21PM
also bare in mind, for chars like Sephiroth and Snake, they probably have to pay Konami and Square-Enix royalties. I think its worth it.
deathxrebirth @ Oct 30th 2008 6:25PM
Good point, but the bottom line is, people shouldn't be in an uproar about SC4 to begin with.
You got more than enough game (especially with LBP) for $60. It is your choice to pay for an extra costume (at whatever the price) or not.
You don't *have* to buy everything ;)
Lars @ Oct 30th 2008 7:06PM
I'm not upset at all about SC4's DLC. I do think it's overpriced though. Maybe the difference is that LBP is a huge game with tons of content, where SC4 isn't really that broad.
j.howlett @ Oct 30th 2008 7:45PM
i tried to comment earlier to say the SC4 stuff was on the disc and most of it can be unlocked by playing the game
Kspraydad @ Oct 30th 2008 8:12PM
SC is content that has an impact on the game itself and many would feel that if it comes out soon after launch it should have been included.
The LBP proposed content DLC has a: free/cheap/expensive tiers so that everyone gets something and b: is completly a vanity purchase. You can play and 'beat' the game without the costumes.
Moris @ Oct 31st 2008 12:41AM
Think of it this way... if they keep giving us free content, eventually they are going to run out of money, and not be able to even supply content anymore. I'd rather pay them to keep supplying us with better, higher quality dlc... rather than get free low-quality dlc. And if it helps to support them, so that they will want to make alot more things for us to enjoy, why not??? 99 cents, or 2 bucks isnt alot of money, especially if you have a job
Even if you have bills to pay, thats a very small amount of money.
Quinn @ Nov 5th 2008 5:14PM
Actually its not the same. The content being offered is not on the disc, but rather premium items made as an after thought and they are charging for them which is perfectly fine. What Soul Calibur 4 is doing is QUITE the opposite. Vader and Yoda respectively are on the disc already. This has been proven, and WAS proven immediately by the underground modding / hacking scene on the 360. What people are pissed about [and rightly so] is that in fact we're being asked to shell out yet another 5$ US funds to unlock something that is on the disc.., and NOT a premium item.
I also think its lame that the 'EARLY BIRD' DLC for LBP still isnt available. I hold that it was a market ploy to sell more copies opening day. Sucks for the consumers.
DeforMAKulizer @ Oct 30th 2008 6:05PM
Oh i was hoping that they would come out today!!!!!
Ill wait! =D Seems pretty cool!
Can't wait for whats more to come!
OneMale @ Oct 31st 2008 11:26PM
I don't consider it nickle and diming sheerly because the game was done. Any game makes a skin or two for it's chars, maybe lets you make them with a limited set.
As an added bonus they can release options to expand!
It may cost, but it cost them to develop it. Not only that, the more money we pump into developers, the more things developers are going to pump out. It may not be an even keel, but it's better than the current sluggish state.
flynn110 @ Oct 30th 2008 6:09PM
wow...awesome!!! costumes!!! (note sarcasm) wtf!! how about making the online system work!! i am not placated by costumes!! exclamation point!! what the hell is with these games coming out not ready to play out of the box. there is really no excuse, especially when you have a beta period. get with it mm/sony
Nathanical @ Oct 30th 2008 6:18PM
Dare i say that these costumes have probably been ready for a while, probably a good bit before the unforseen online issues. And theyre most likely made by a different group of people who arnt responsable for things like the servers. Just give them time and be patient. Its not uncommon for there to be online issues so close after launch. I for one am glad about all this DLC. Especially considdering some of its FREE. Role on the UK release!
Lionkun @ Oct 30th 2008 6:11PM
Hmm, so they are available next week. Yet they were available yesterday on the japanese psn.. thats kinda odd.
jimbo @ Oct 30th 2008 6:23PM
yeah, i was wondering that too.
deathxrebirth @ Oct 30th 2008 6:26PM
Even odder, Halloween is *tomorrow*...
Remix @ Oct 30th 2008 6:27PM
I assumed these were bein released 2day, kinda dumb to release a halloween themed costume AFTER halloween but... go figure. I'm so buyin these tho, and I usually HATE bein charged for stupid costumes and such.
Nathanical @ Oct 30th 2008 6:32PM
i believe those 2 will be free
John S @ Oct 30th 2008 6:33PM
Was there supposed to be an update today? They're lagging pretty bad.
orthonovum @ Oct 30th 2008 6:35PM
heh.. they are already out in japan PSN store.. but you cant share them with other accounts on your PS3, so if you DL it with your JPN account, you wont see it on any other account... *sigh*
NukeAssault @ Oct 30th 2008 6:46PM
Damn really? Cause i download them earlier today. I dont have they game yet though. so i wouldn't of known.
Beano @ Oct 30th 2008 6:38PM
No costumes in the EU update today. Europe get shafted again... and again... hopefully the European LBP servers will be online (and ready!) next week, but that's just a bit naive to expect I quess... :|
Roto13 @ Oct 30th 2008 6:46PM
I know I can't wait to dress up for Halloween next week.
Jerses @ Oct 30th 2008 8:02PM
but the release date is for november 6 to 19...isnt halloween October 31? like tomorrow? or did i read wrong? :S i hope not.
PSN: John-Paul-Jones @ Oct 31st 2008 12:13AM
Yeah, he's/she's being sarcastic. It's a bit weird that they would release content dedicated to a special event a week or even two weeks late. It's very stupid if you ask me, unless there's an unknown force/cause that's delaying these releases; although I did see someone I was playing with that rocked a spacesuit just like the one shown in the photos, and lo and behold the person had a Japanese PSN account and profile.
JAH75157 @ Oct 30th 2008 6:51PM
maybe we can get santa costumes after new year too, this is going to rock.
bish @ Oct 30th 2008 6:55PM
Loving the game, but someone please explain to me why the Halloween costume comes out after Halloween and the "Launch" (get it "Launch") Astronaut costume comes out two weeks after the official launch was supposed to be. Come on guys get your act together.
orthonovum @ Oct 30th 2008 7:04PM
ya know... I find it insulting that MM is even charging for these after the huge mess with pre-orders, ship dates, shelf dates, patches, and servers.....
don't get me wrong.. I love the game, but I'm starting to feel like Sony and or MM just took my money and ran away laughing.. I swear I heard them say "sucker" too
Nathanical @ Oct 30th 2008 7:15PM
those 2 costumes are FREE.........
orthonovum @ Oct 30th 2008 7:37PM
yeah dude im not talking about the free costumes that they already promised us for free.... >
Nathanical @ Oct 30th 2008 7:49PM
If you dont want it, dont buy it. On the most part DLC isnt free. As i said in a previous post, with outfits like snake and sephiroth, they'll have royalties to pay. Aside from that they actually have to make them, so its only fair that you have to pay that tiny amount for them. Hell its better than having 'VOTE OBAMA' or simelar things plastered over all you levels, which would be the alternative!
If you're so cheap that anything over FREE is too much, then dont buy it, nobody is forcing you!
j.howlett @ Oct 30th 2008 7:13PM
i just got my ninja costume and i have a bunch of others like lion zebra and pirate. i'll make a bunny and fairy later for my niece
DeathroW @ Oct 30th 2008 7:16PM
I wonder if littlebigplanet will get its own theme section like capcom are getting? Would be nice.
I just hope us europeans don't miss out on the ones released this week on the US store.
freeblue @ Oct 30th 2008 8:08PM
i thought they're coming out the 1st week. I gave up a cheap chinese/english version of this game for nothing.
Nick @ Oct 30th 2008 7:45PM
I think the whole reason everyone is waiting for the costumes is the fact that the game is not yet out in the uk even though it was developed here, we was pretty annoyed before that we was getting the game a few days behind everyone else which has now turned in to a 10 days or so after everyone else has the games.
I think if they started releasing download content for the game before we even had it then it would be adding insult to injury.
Sancho @ Oct 30th 2008 8:23PM
actually all three costumes were released to japan today, consider me insulted and injured
rgoff31 @ Oct 30th 2008 7:51PM
I don't see myself getting into costume buying. I'm still having lots of fun with the costumes I have and stickering and painting them. I think we all need a "I survived the first weeks of LBP Online" T-shirts.
morouxshi @ Oct 30th 2008 9:48PM
Well the costumes (and an extra Ape Escape costume) are available now in the JP PSN Store. Thanks for nothing SCEA!

There is an Ape Quest costume for free in the Japanese store.
freeblue @ Nov 1st 2008 12:42AM
they have spaceboy too..but it wont show up on my us account :(
konach @ Oct 30th 2008 11:47PM
I guess the "I was there week 1" T-shirt is now going to say "I was the.... #$%^ the server crashed"
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt the official release date for LBP in the US scheduled for this week? If thats the case then why are we being subjected to yet another delay now in regards to DLC which the news section in the game quite clearly states is supposed to be available? How about getting a response from MM or Sony in regards to that, although seeing how MM responds to comments on their site I dare say it would be easier to get blood from a stone. After all the Bruhahah about exclusive content only being available for the game in the first week of release this seems to be a pretty shoddy move on their part I could understand extending the download period due to a lack of discs for consumers from the first delay, however when customers in other countries already have the content it makes me question why I should allow my kids to purchase anything else for this game when so far all they seem to be doing is beta testing the server connection for them without so much as thankyou to show for it.
Norkiri @ Oct 31st 2008 4:03AM

I love this game. They're coming out with prices for some of them. I'm still getting them, the game is so fun with 4 people.
freeblue @ Nov 1st 2008 12:42AM
i have been busy playing fallout 3.. but also I can't make my level anymore cuz LBP always have my idea :( i was gonna do a smash a mole level like the one in the arcade..but LBP already have it :(
Mr. Joe @ Nov 1st 2008 2:16PM
i really don't understand why people complain about buying dlc. if you don't want it, don't buy it. i hear a lot of complaining when there is no download content , then when there is content, there's complaining if only some is free. many of you guys are greedy. the devs continue to work on these games after launch and that is awesome. support them by paying $.99 when a cool costume comes out. i've spent my pennies on worse.
ROYALWCHZ @ Nov 4th 2008 6:41PM
Disagree with me all you want, but i will would spend my whole paycheck on LBP d/l content, I just got the game yesterday, becasue of a huge runaround with walmart and all the electronic and game stores selling out, i was part of the beta, and Anything (Almost) they put online i will purchase, EXPECIALLY new Create tools, yes, it is true than in a year or 2's time, LBP will end up costing me about the same as rockband 2, or GHWT, but the fact of the matter is, i have payed for a game that will NEVER EVER RUN OUT OF LEVELS, and those ARE FREE< and always will be, User created levels, is so amazing, Playing Mario, I get 8 stages, where in LBP 8 new Stages are Published every Minute/second for that matter.... If anyone every wants to Hang out in the Little Big World, Hit me up on the PSN : ROYALWCHZ PEACE
