PSP is on top of its game in Japan
It was unlikely the PSP would trump its awesome sales of nearly 160,000 units last week. Nevertheless, the PSP is once again on top, selling 60,467 units. Unfortunately, Sony's high-def console the PlayStation 3 was dead last, selling an abysmal 3,931 units. Look on the bright side though: during this week, Sony's current-gen hardware outsold all its competitors current-gen hardware combined.

How come you guys only post the numbers, if the psp is on the top? you guys should post this every week =p
Also, what happened? the xbox sold more than 2 consoles this week? Pigs do fly!
BLee @ Oct 31st 2008 5:21PM
not more than 2 consoles.. almost double the ps3 figures.. what games are sparking this 360 sale rise in Japan? and why is PS3 struggling so much there?
justingallag @ Oct 31st 2008 9:47PM
I'm betting it's the price cut.

Sorry, I just thought this was funny and wanted to share. Target is asking 79.99 for a 4gb card and 69.99 for an 8gb card.
Dumb Deal of the Day?

$70 for an 8GB?.......damn I spent that much on a 4GB at Gamestop only 2 months ago :(
LokeSTL @ Oct 31st 2008 6:35PM
Yup...if they want the PS3 to sell, they need to bring back BC. Just a fact, the BC feature helps the transition, thus selling consoles. Wouldn't hurt if they would also quit pushing the PS2.
cafecito @ Oct 31st 2008 6:50PM
The 360 is off the bottom for a change! Amusing.
Jeremy @ Oct 31st 2008 10:52PM
The 360 has actually been off the bottom for quite some time (like a month?), the PS3 has owned that spot quite a bit.
Dr Haisook @ Oct 31st 2008 7:13PM
Wow. The PS3 is selling so low. Weird! If it's not going to sell in Japan, how would it elsewhere?
TM @ Oct 31st 2008 11:46PM
good to see the psp doing so well in Japan. If only it was the same in NA.
Ng Wei Hong @ Nov 1st 2008 12:41AM
Based on my understanding .... the PS3 games development it need take alot of time .... hence the game exist in the market it less (about 30 % games release per month)compare to other console or handheld evendo it PS3 sold almost 1 year ++ .... Other than that .... the only game which PS3 fan most like is MSG4 ... because this only Ultimate game only for PS3. Before that ... I already done a survey to serveral Console and game dealer store by asking "what is the best of PS3 evendo the blu-ray is expensive ?" .. most of them answer (overall) is .... "because of MSG4 only for PS3". That why .... other than that .... the Final Fantasy XII is also release for Xbox 360 + the Monster Hunter 3 tri~ also release for wii ... hence the % of sales will drop sharply .... as an extra .... The way to increase the sell % of PSP, SCEJ/SCEU/SCEHK must use alot of affort to gain more exclusive title game ..... "Only for PS3"

I assume english isn't your first language?
Everything is understandable though *thumbs up*
Exclusives aren't the only way to sell games, i mean advertising plays a huge role aswell, i see many xbox and wii/Ds ads these days, but i barely ever see any ps3 ads.
The wii/Ds ads don't come up much, but when they do, They last FOREVER. The xbox ads come up a lot more frequently, but are normal length ads.
And the ps3/psp ads? Well, they barely exist on t.v.................... Sony have done a good job, advertising some games, in america, for ps3 lately, tho.
lua @ Nov 1st 2008 2:08PM
makes me wonder what those freaking execs at sony are thinking with their shit-for-brains - why couldn't they make those gorgeous psn games (bionic commando rearm & prince of persia classic) play along on psp, when it is out-selling ps3 15 to 1 ???
Alien @ Nov 1st 2008 5:25PM
Great sales... I wonder how well will it stand te ground during the DSi launch...
Gurbinder @ Nov 1st 2008 5:45PM
doesent it release like today or something?
Alien @ Nov 1st 2008 8:34PM
Yep... it was released on Saturday ;)
TM @ Nov 1st 2008 11:24PM
based on what I've heard many people aren't interested in buying the dsi. The only good thing it seems to have is downloaded games
BigSlickChic @ Nov 2nd 2008 3:09AM
Just wondering.....
I want to purchase a PSP. Does anyone think it will be a hot item on Black Friday or where's the best deal on one now?
TM @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:44PM
If psp games are mostly mediocre than why is it so ahead of the ps3?
Nezrou @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:09AM
Because of Monster Hunter 2nd G? This game has downloadable content in Japan, so even for someone who bought it on launch day there is still something to do in it. Also don't forget that they have more titles being released for PSP than rest of the world.
Ves @ Nov 5th 2008 7:34PM
I actually have a feeling that the PSP is the PS2's follow up as for sales instead of the PS3. The reason why I think so, is that like with the PS2 it can be modded so people buy them more easily. The money that would usualy be ' invested' in games, can be invested in more PSP's and bigger memory sticks.
Nezrou @ Nov 6th 2008 9:25AM
Um, but PSP 3k haven't been hacked yet, so recent sales in Japan can't be so good because of that. Unless people are buying it assuming that it will eventually be hacked.
