Watch over 20 minutes of Heavy Rain
Gamekyo recently got a second helping of Heavy Rain at the Micromania Games Show 2008 in Paris. At the show, David Cage showed off the same level seen in the debut Leipzig trailer earlier this year. This time, Cage took the MGS crowd through the level, showing them Heavy Rain's Sixaxis controls, fully interactive environments, multiple story paths and no load screens.
Gamekyo recorded over 20 minutes of the demonstration, which you can watch right after the break. While Cage may be explaining everything in French in the video, it's not too difficult to figure out what's going on. Besides, the in-game dialogue is in English.
[Thanks Andy and SolidOtacon!]

Looks nice. When does this game come out?
doc j @ Nov 2nd 2008 6:22PM
No one knows. It is one of life's great mysteries.
Figboy @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:33AM
it comes out in fall 2009.
an October release seems appropriate, but more likely a November release.

Northwest Washington? Bellingham has got heavier rain than even Heavy Rain. Just sayin' but I heard the rain over the sound of an F2007 in GT5 Prologue, with a Bose system no less. Heavy Rain indeed.
hasiwana @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:00PM
You live in Bellingham? So do I.
Playing this game will probably be like looking out my window nine months out of the year. Heh.

I just wanted to point out that before showing the demo, the guy says that what we are seeing does not actually make part of the story of Heavy Rain. (he even says that all the characters might not even be the same, etc)
*In other words, they are showing the gameplay but they "dont wanna spoil any part of the story for the gamers".
Oh and I love the game menu ( it really looks like a real person and she is a real character.)
ldd @ Nov 2nd 2008 7:14PM
Oh and another interesting thing he says is that you can move the head independantly (with the other analog stick)
Deadpool @ Nov 2nd 2008 7:32PM
Wow, this game is really suspenseful! It got my heart pumping faster when the killer arrived. The developers are doing a good job getting that mood in this game.
HenryH @ Nov 2nd 2008 7:52PM
You might want to add that the demo shown is NOT part of the actual game.
HenryH @ Nov 2nd 2008 7:53PM
Ow, sorry, didn't read previous comment.
ldd @ Nov 2nd 2008 7:56PM
Did you see when the girl knocked the door?
well, you are allowed to have more freedom in this game, so as a player you could have technically knocked it after ringing if you wanted. Also, when she sees the window open, supposedly there is an option in the game that lets you know what your character is thinking (actually, what options you have) which doesnt mean that you have to do them but anyways...
Jake @ Nov 2nd 2008 8:14PM
annoying how the camera angle changes constantly
oglabogla @ Nov 2nd 2008 11:20PM
The camera angles enhance the gameplay, its supposed to play out like a movie, and they help you more then hurt you...
Martin hald @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:23AM
Great.. half the world speaks english - well.. we make a presentation in french then. WHAT a great idea! lol
RazLeBoL @ Nov 3rd 2008 6:30AM
It's in Paris. What are you expecting people to speak there?
r.crisp @ Nov 3rd 2008 6:38AM
Yeah, because the whole of leipzig was in german, right?
I have no problem with other languages and all, but there will obviously be a lot of interest in this game and if he does all of his presentations like this then the majority of gamers won't be able to understand any of it.
Whereas if it were to be done in English then a lot more would understand it.
I'm not trying to promote ignorance, but more readily available information to a wider audience is surely positive to them too?
Martin hald @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:30AM
@ r.crisp. That was what i meant!
Thanks for explaining so well.
Geoff @ Nov 3rd 2008 2:07AM
Wow! The second part of the demo where she gets caught and tries to escape is absolutely amazing. The whole idea of the man stuffing his victims and watching TV with them is nauseating yet brilliantly creepy. I am really looking forward to seeing how this game turns out!
Natan82 @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:39AM
Great Game!!!!
The release date is spring 2009. No Fall 2009.
bambino @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:49AM
:D I'm so glad I got a PS3.. Its exclusive line-up > 360's
Dan Rabot @ Nov 3rd 2008 7:20AM
Anyone play Farenheit? aka Indigo Prophecy? - This was by the same developers and was off the hook. A brilliant interactive movie type game, Heavy raion is like the Next gen Farenheit - it's going to rock so hard!
ModeMan101 @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:06AM
Omikron (The Nomad Soul), also by QD, was good too... The only letdown with Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy was the ending. It was like watching a film with the second-to-last reel missing!
Bucket @ Nov 3rd 2008 2:11PM
Time for some nitpicking. Just because this is being hailed as the watermark in gaming realism.
- Environments seem to be simply higher in polycount (at least, from what I can tell in a tiny video). I see no improvement in the rendering model like we saw with LittleBigPlanet or Gran Turismo 5.
- In fact, the sepia tone is getting REALLY tired. Let's see some blues and greens, please. You know, colors you find in nature.
- Body movements are still a bit stiff and don't indicate any improvement in scripting. Perhaps the big innovation is somewhere else I'm not seeing. Like their eyes, maybe.
Hyams @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:51PM
This is a build from the end of 2007. The game doesn't come out until sometime in 2009. Quite likely, the final game will look even better.
Sauvage @ Nov 3rd 2008 7:37PM
In terms of presenting a story, I think this will be very interesting indeed.
J.C. @ Nov 14th 2008 2:37PM
I bought a PS3 specifically for this game because I liked the gameplay of Indigo Prophecy so much. There needs to be more interactive suspense/thriller games like this for the PS3.
