Konami launches 'Commemorative Campaign' for MGO
In honor of reaching a count of one million members worldwide for Metal Gear Online, Konami plans to celebrate and treat MGO players to an early Thanksgiving. Starting November 25 and running until December 9, Konami is awarding all MGO players with 10,000 reward points which they can use in the in-game online shop. Just log into MGO during the redemption period, and you'll get the points.
Also, those who avail of the free 10,000 points may be one of the 30 lucky people to receive an additional 100,000 reward points. 10 people from each region (Japan, North America, Europe) will be selected on December 16, after the main Commemorative Campaign ends. If that's not enough, then there's always the special Gene/Meme bundle pack to grab at $14.99. This dual expansion bundle will be available sometime during the "holiday season."

I never really got into Metal Gear Online. I tried it out when I first got the game, but none since.
Aj_3 @ Nov 4th 2008 4:11AM
Still no trophies?
If they are still supporting it, then get it in.
CABALLOTE @ Nov 4th 2008 1:24PM
I was surprised too it still doesn't have trophies.
Tw3nty0ne @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:17PM
oooooooooo......
....Yeah, not the most interested, might start it up tomorrow though.
drdre74 @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:18PM
Sounds great to me
Deadpool @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:32PM
Cool news...but I've only played MGO once as well. I just hate remembering more than one password and constantly downloading updates. Not that it's a bad game, the game is fun, but the setup takes a long time to get through.
But I'll be there for the 'Commemorative Campaign'. I can't resist 10,000 points! :)
Jtenma @ Nov 4th 2008 7:44AM
I too have only gone on there a couple of times, even got the new maps (when they were new), but the hassle of getting online and....I don't know...MGO just gives me that "empty" feeling.
Game_playa @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:25PM
Are you still in the MGO bronze age?????
In the new Golden ages, NONE of those things are actually an issue. Well, they weren't an issue since the Game came out. Oh yeah, they invented a remember me button and auto log in so you don't have to remember them other than like 5 seconds since the server issues were fixed within a week of the BETA and since then have remained fixed. But I guess if your attention span is about 2 secs, then you may need to write them down ONCE. Just saying, but please don't diss MGO if you haven't even played it more than once
Deadpool @ Nov 4th 2008 12:15AM
First of all, my attention span is only 1 second! Second of all, I didn't diss the game I only dissed the setup! Second of all, I only played it once, so that was my first impression of it! Second of all why are you so defensive?! Second of all, my attention span is only 1 second!
Jay. @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:43PM
my friends never play anymore.. so i haven't in a while.
i'll be logging in to try this out.
maybe i can get some of my friends to play again..
hopefully they'll discount the gene expansion.
i don't think its worth another 11 bucks like the meme was.
H2Os @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:45PM
I like MGO quite a bit, but I haven't played it in some time. I've been meaning to come back to it.
AcidReaper @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:57PM
all i want 2 do is be snake then kik liquid ass
C.S @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:56PM
omgggg! i love you KONAMI!!!!!
kentuckyfried @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:11PM
Holy s***...10,000 pts? That's not that much in the MGO world overall, but it's at least enough to afford some ridiculous items like a red beret/red t-shirt. ;)
100,000 for the special winners is even more outrageous.
Albanian_Killa @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:29PM
MGO had the potential to be a great game. If they had the servers integrated with the PSN, and used the PS Store, they would have more than a petty 1 million worldwide players. These players from all regions could play against each other, all using a universal ID. The reward shop would still work, except instead of the MGO Shop, Konami, like all other publishers, would have to publish content on the better PlayStation Store. Not to mention their sales of the add-ons would rise.
It's nice to dream isn't it?
kentuckyfried @ Nov 3rd 2008 10:52PM
Yeah, it is a beautiful dream...a world with no lag, and exclusive use of the PSN instead of Konami's broken system.
If MGO numbers keep dropping, they may have no choice but to maybe adopt that and forego whatever extra profit they're getting from using their system. Let's hope that COD:WAW, Resistance 2, and Killzone 2 helps that along.
I don't know about being able to play against each other worldwide though...that's a bandwidth issue that every game suffers from (at least from what I've seen on the ps3). COD4 is unplayable against the Brits in the early morning.
James @ Nov 4th 2008 12:08AM
I disagree with you Kentucky, I play with Brits often and never really lag on a fairly mediocre connection.
Joe @ Nov 4th 2008 6:12AM
Same here. I'm a Brit, and I've never had problems playing against US players, and I don't have a great connection.
linton @ Nov 4th 2008 1:45AM
I've had the game since day 1, Completed it 9times(still missing a few items though!) but I have never played it online, I've no idea what the online mode is like whatsoever.
Seems when I do I'll just be vulture food for everyone......ha ha dont think I can take that kinda pain!
DeathroW @ Nov 4th 2008 2:27AM
Apart from the stupid konami ID stuff on MGO, i've never, ever had problems online with the game, updates downloaded very quick and never had trouble joining games or suffered any lag.
Gavin @ Nov 4th 2008 3:07AM
December 16th is my birthday. That would be a nice wee gift :P
Dan Rabot @ Nov 4th 2008 4:48AM
I've played many hours of MGO, love that game. It's the only game i refuse to trade in.
my only problem is that you need to keep the 5gig install even if you only play online. meh.
I've never had any netwrok problems, the log in is a pain but once it's done it's done and it just remembers it for you.
The reward shop is a winner, survival is hella good too! - i'm so gonna get myself on there once this offer starts, I'm saving RP's for a new outfit so 10,000 will be a real help.
sibbor @ Nov 4th 2008 7:44AM
Remove the damn Konami and Game ID and I'll try MGO for once... already done with MGS4, and still playing it some, but have never tested MGO out because of the hassle with the ID's... Screw Konami for that! :X
j.howlett @ Nov 4th 2008 7:47AM
i guess i can get killed while going for the catapult. i might try giving it another go
xJa13nx @ Nov 4th 2008 12:23PM
Red berets are 50,000 points...
Ja13n @ Nov 4th 2008 12:26PM
I play MGO a lot. I'm a level 7 FoxHound... I guess everyone is gonna have a beret now..
Woody @ Nov 4th 2008 11:55PM
nice
Liquidus Snake @ Dec 7th 2008 4:49AM
i never got my 10,000 reward points. It does give me 50 rp each day. Anyone know why? If it only gives you 50 a night untill it adds up to 10,000 then thats dumb. I guess it helps out but I want it all at once so I can go on a shopping spree and get some cool gear. Cant wait for the Eyepatch and Bandanna.
