Sony needs to slow down on firmware updates. This is ridiculous.
ricky @ Nov 4th 2008 10:57PM
they might have taken your suggestion too seriously. this FW update takes foreeeeeverrrrrr to download. for me at least. and A LOT of other people.
Chainblast @ Nov 4th 2008 11:05PM
Me too dude. I've been "downloading" for about an hour now and I'm only at 23%; and it's not my connection. What's unbelievable is Sony decided to throw a rogue firmware update into the fold the day Resistance 2 launched. Seriously, my penis has more logic than this. Especially after the SOCOM and LBP incidents... Still on-going.
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 4th 2008 11:22PM
so yea thats why I dont download updates as SOON as they are released.........servers are being slammed......
I'll get it in the morning.....
cLanKin89 @ Nov 4th 2008 11:02PM
so in other words...we fixed a bunch of small stuff but we're not gonna tell ya what they are.
Lord_von_Punx @ Nov 4th 2008 11:05PM
you guys are a little slowwwww eh ???
thats ok probally busy playing Resist 2???
Andrew Yoon @ Nov 4th 2008 11:13PM
Actually, watching election results. =D
Kspraydad @ Nov 4th 2008 11:39PM

Weird, I got it the minute it appeared on the PS.blog and it only took about 10 minutes.
Connor @ Nov 5th 2008 7:59AM
Well Obama is now gonna be president.
Jon @ Nov 4th 2008 11:22PM
Yeah mine is downloading now probably be done in about 5 minutes. This is getting ridiculous though, it seems every time I turn on my console I have to wait 20+ minutes to let it update. I hate that it forces you to do that in order to play online. They should just save up for large updates every few months.
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 4th 2008 11:23PM
do you play once or twice a month??? the updates are NEARLY as often as they were last year......or the beginning of this year for that matter.....
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 4th 2008 11:28PM
I'll wait till the masses have got it........that way I can get it in under 5 minutes.....not to mention I will see if any major problems occur......
j.howlett @ Nov 4th 2008 11:27PM
done and done. got it in a couple minutes.
alisound @ Nov 4th 2008 11:36PM
never had a single issue with an update. always worked flawlessly on my launch 60gig ps3. what you guys have to remember though is that fixes are a good thing, you would all complain if we were stuck with small but very irritating issues for months on end.
Daniel @ Nov 4th 2008 11:42PM
I love the updates, glad Sony supports their machine and fans/users enough to actually fix issues promptly and not wait to "clump it into big updates" If you had an issue with a game you just bought would you really want to wait 6 months for the next .0 or .5 update? I highly doubt it. Be happy they support us. You guys act like downloading something for 10 or 20 minutes is going to kill you gees...go to the bathroom...have a sandwich and move on with life. Thanks Sony for the ongoing support!
Vannoy @ Nov 4th 2008 11:44PM
So I just downloaded and installed this on my 80gig MGS4 bundle system and now I have no video.. Audio is there, just no video. It was working before the update.
Popfrogs @ Nov 5th 2008 12:02AM
Try the 4 second button hold startup. It should erase your video settings and you can set them again when it reboots.
If not, call Sony. Real simple.
Vannoy @ Nov 5th 2008 12:27AM
I finally got it fixed, since I don't own an actual TV (I play PS3/360 through a Samsung computer display) I had to ask a neighbor if I could hook it up to their set while it was hooked up to my display thru HDMI..
Really strange that an update would pooch the video settings like that..
Sinistar @ Nov 4th 2008 11:44PM
My update is going slow as hell, too.. Looks like no LBP co-op for me tonight.
J @ Nov 4th 2008 11:49PM
Plus once the download gets to 60 percent it starts to speed up to twice the speed? Haha. I love the updates Sony. Keep them coming. Divx playback. Media file pause and resume, extra dts support. I cant wait for Home and maybe an even better browser.
Tim Parsons @ Nov 4th 2008 11:51PM
wow full of retards tonight.
took me 5mins to download and install and thats with a download program on my PC hogging nearly all my bandwidth
Mein Bratwurst @ Nov 5th 2008 1:53AM
What do flooded servers have to do with user intelligence? It took me 20 minutes to download it (very slow) and all of my PS3's ports are open. More traffic = slower speeds just like in real life roads! But you can put people down if you wish.
Woody @ Nov 4th 2008 11:52PM
Hmm, Sony doesn't even have this update listed on their system update page yet. So I'm not sure what this update does yet.

alisound @ Nov 4th 2008 11:52PM
@ vannoy press and hold the power button till it beeps twice. it will change video output .
@sinistar mine took 5 mins and all is good with it! the on screen keyboard is fast again in the ingame XMB whilst playing warhawk! good times.
Vannoy @ Nov 4th 2008 11:57PM
Yeah I did that, and it didn't work..
WNxThrax @ Nov 5th 2008 12:28AM
Taking about 5 minutes on Wireless to download
FeaturePreacher @ Nov 5th 2008 12:34AM
What do you think will appear in the next update coming around Nov. 30th? Also, is anyone else here being censured from commenting on playstation blog?
HikariMakozu @ Nov 5th 2008 12:35AM
I hope this update fixes a lot of the crashing my browser does when I'm watching flash 9 videos.
Same goes for Life with Playstation's dislike for music while surfing the news sites.
Daniel @ Nov 5th 2008 1:27AM
Mine updated pretty quick. Not as fast as ususal but definitely not slow. And I had the 360 downloading at the same time, plus a PC and a laptop turned on and connected to the net. I love how people blame Sony for their slow/laggy connections.
Dylan @ Nov 5th 2008 1:44AM
Small stuff??
I hope the message thing they fixed was the stupid freeze you get when you try to send a message. You guys know what I mean.
In the middle of COD4 w/my friends, try to send one a message and the damn controls freeze when I try to hit 'Subject'!!
Can only reset system. :\
Dahk @ Nov 5th 2008 2:28AM
Thought I should say something totally unrelated:
“This is our moment. This is our time. To put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth — that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes We Can!”
EPICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC. I got goosebumps from his speech.
nakedatthecomp @ Nov 5th 2008 8:48PM
ditto. and I'm not even American haha
Craig @ Nov 5th 2008 2:34AM
Just thought everyone might like to know the update seems to have fixed the saints row 2 game freezing on load issues, don't know about midnight club la yet. Now playing saints row 2 is actually fun again.
daki @ Nov 5th 2008 3:24AM
I just have to ask, anyone else than me that never gets above ~60% (download) before the PS3 restarts. I've checked it with my brothers and thay have it like that also. I just think it's strange that I never see 100% complete during a update (note the PS3 works just fine).
DigDug @ Nov 5th 2008 12:52PM
Because the flash is only 60% full, then last bit completes instantly.
That means there is still 40% of the flash free for improvements, and more features (plus of course HDD space..).
DigDug @ Nov 5th 2008 3:32AM
Man I hope PS3 owners don't flood Xbox forums and blogs with reports of NXE update causing their console to RROD (nudge nudge wink wink....)
Jovan @ Nov 5th 2008 4:20AM
Way too slow on my PS3 too, So I just downloaded via PC, 300 kbps = happy :D
Shame that it came up so quick from the 2.50 update
Ryan @ Nov 5th 2008 4:24AM
Sweet, it went at 13 kbps! Took like 2+ hours. My net gets pretty bogged down from like 6-11 or so, but I was able to download something else on my laptop at around 200 kbps, so it wasn't entirely my end. (I started the d/l just to test if the slow update was me or server-side)
Mikemyerz666 @ Nov 5th 2008 4:37AM
"The playback quality of some PS3 format software has been improved."
you think this means fallout 3 will not freeze up for a sec when somebody signs on and off from your friends list?
Dan Rabot @ Nov 5th 2008 6:05AM
Oh my GOD! - That is the bain of my life right now. Everytime it happens it pains me and I curse having forgotten to turn those bloody notifications off!
Please please have fixed this, fingers crossed.
Jeff @ Nov 6th 2008 1:28AM
Ever get those psn friends that log on and off, log on and off for 20 seconds in the middle of a cutscene?!
Holy fukin hell!!
Dan Rabot @ Nov 5th 2008 9:37AM
God i hate that! - Mine is just always connected, i don't get why people get logged on and off over and over.
C-Onor @ Nov 5th 2008 5:13AM
it downloaded for me in 2 mins, literally
adorna @ Nov 5th 2008 6:29AM
nice. my system kept freezing when i used a keyboard for input and I was secretly and not very enthusiastically hoping for a quick fix. so I'm happy :)
dmd @ Nov 5th 2008 6:49AM
Another one? But... already?? oO
Refath Imtiaz @ Nov 5th 2008 7:01AM

Strange thing happened. First my ps3 said that new update is there and didn't signed in. I restarted again and this time it didn't ask for update. It signed up just like that and still it is like that.
Comments plz.

did anyone else notice how everything dims when your viewing something dark?
