Red Alert 3 back on PS3, with 1080p and other 'really cool' PS3 features
While the system may deserve the "DelayStation" moniker that many give it, delays have had some genuinely good effects on games arriving on the challenging PS3. For example, Oblivion arrived on PS3 with extra content, and better stability. BioShock made the transition to PS3 with added content and exclusive DLC. Eternal Sonata also received additional content. The upcoming Alone in the Dark features an extra chapter and bonus PS3-exclusive features like "controls." The list goes on and on.
Red Alert 3 is now completed for Xbox 360 and PC. With these two projects out of the way, EA can now focus on a PS3 version, according to Videogamer.com. "If you're a PS3 owner and you don't own a PC and you don't have an Xbox 360 you don't have to write on your Christmas or Hanukkah list that you want to have an Xbox," David Silvermann said. "You can play Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, bide your time and you'll be very pleased. We're looking at doing some really cool things with the PS3 version. Since it is shipping later we're putting in a lot of cool content and really taking advantage of both the 1080p nature and the high-defness of Blu-Ray and also the fact that it can hold just so much more space."
It sounds like PS3 owners will get added content if they're truly taking advantage of Blu-ray. But let's hope that the devs at EA don't forget an oft-forgotten PS3 feature: the ability to plug in a mouse and keyboard.

oh you got to be kidding me the only reason i got this game for my pc was because it wasn't coming to the ps3 and it isn't really running well either dammit i guess i'll just sell it on ebay and buy this......well that is if they include keyboard and mouse support
Brodie-san @ Nov 4th 2008 11:31AM
They DID say it wasn't cancelled - just "delayed".
The_Punisher @ Nov 4th 2008 6:14PM
No, they delayed it indefinitely....or so they said...
XeroKool @ Nov 4th 2008 11:15AM
Seriously. Full mouse and keyboard support please.
Nate @ Nov 4th 2008 11:41AM
+100. FFS, devs. The PS3 is the only console you can actually just give KB&M support to. There's absolutely no excuse not to, especially for something like this.
bombos @ Nov 4th 2008 12:08PM
Seriously. Full mouse and keyboard support pretty pretty please.
Anything less would be... uncivilized.
Devin @ Nov 5th 2008 4:03PM
This is just one of the many features of the PS3 that I really really want to be utilized. Bioshock didn't, Fallout 3 didn't, FarCry2 didn't. Oblivion did though and I love Bethesda for doing it, but again they forgot about Fallout 3........Oh and UT3 supported M+K too....
flynn110 @ Nov 4th 2008 11:19AM
i really don't think that you should be defending late ps3 releases because they sometimes come with extra content. in many cases, as with the bioshock and oblivion extra content, you have to pay for it, and sometimes the extra content comes out on the xbox system as well, so it isn't exclusive.
more often than not the ports to the ps3 are sub-par when compared to their xbox counterparts. i love the ps3 but these delayed releases and ports often leave me feeling cheated or second rate when compared with the xbox offerings.
Dan Rabot @ Nov 4th 2008 11:31PM
Too right, there really is no need for us to feel 2nd rate, we own the superior console!!!
It really is a travesty that a cheap shoddy console can commend so much attention from developers and consumers simply by "being cheap" - It is well past the time for change.
The Xbox is the lower class of console, for the poor, the casual gamers and the uneducated.
The PS3 is the rifined "upper class" of consoles, for the real gamers, the people who understand the value of slipping a Laptop hard drive in there (rather than paying a silly amount for a "special" one), the people who understand the advantages of having a full blown media hub and the people who want to be ready for a time where games are bigger than a DVD.
It saddens me to think that we live in a time where saving a hundred quid or so will drive people to buy a sub par console, even though it is lower spec.
The two shouldn't be compared, the only similarity is that most games are available on both. They are two very different animals.
Popfrogs @ Nov 4th 2008 11:59AM
The extra Oblivion content didn't cost anything. IIRC it was the Knights of the Round quest or something that you could unlock by talking to some crazy dude in a town near the beginning of the game.
The DLC (Shivering Isles) DID cost money though, but that's how DLC goes.
BananaBoat @ Nov 4th 2008 12:46PM
On the PC, there are a few hundred (if not thousand) extra quests and maps etc for people to get for free. Until the PS3 or the 360 has that functionality, I'll be buying my RPG's/RTS's on the PC. It helps that you get 10 dollars off the price for buying on the PC as well.
vahdyx @ Nov 4th 2008 11:22AM
hahahahaha, who doesn't own a pc! I know I know, a pc capable of playing C&C:RA
JerJerBinks @ Nov 4th 2008 5:19PM
I don't own a PC, but this Mac would run Red Alert 3 pretty well.
vahdyx @ Nov 4th 2008 8:16PM
well mister jerjerbinks, here's what I have to say, "I'm a PC"
nakedatthecomp @ Nov 4th 2008 9:12PM
what about when you have to right click?!

Dan Rabot @ Nov 4th 2008 11:30AM
OH YES! Red Alert on PS3 is what we are talking about.
I can't wait for this game, but I am a little more excited about Endwar. Played a whole lot of C&C in the past, hopefully there'll be something new / interesting.
Let's just hope they really do take advantage of PS3's superior format, power, perhipheral support, etc.
It's time they started using the PS3 rather than just concentrating on it's sub-par competitor, the poor man's PlayStation.
helghast102 @ Nov 4th 2008 11:34AM
in other news, PSN is under maintenance :( well, i dont know if its global PSN, but its down in EU
Game_playa @ Nov 4th 2008 11:36AM

In the right hand middle it says PSN is down
Game_playa @ Nov 4th 2008 11:39AM
God dammit!!! i just got this for PC. And it barely runs at everything very low and resolution 800*640. I mean I thought the PS3 version was canceled. But it does give me a chance to buy it again, just like I "bought" it on PC. But then I can finally enjoy it HD!!!
brettjr @ Nov 4th 2008 11:58AM
Yeah but when games are brought to a system late instead of alongside the actual release date, the sales suffer and most people don't care about the game anymore. Which is why those games you listed all are mediocre sellers at best, including the great bioshock.

In the mirrors edge demo, try jumping off a building, then press R1, quickly, this will make Faith (main character) turn 180 degrees. you can now see her hands and legs. I recommend pressing square now, to slow things down. Now press R2 (combat button) quickly and Faith will swear (put her index and middle fingers up). Is that meant to happen, or did they *sneak* it in? remember who found it! lmao! you'll have to press all the buttons, pretty quicky, but it's easy to do and kinda easy to notice.
philderbyshire @ Nov 4th 2008 1:36PM
I got Red Alert 3 the day it came out on my PC, my PC is more powerful then the PS3 and a lot of money went into it, plus i bet there will be more support for PC users then console users, and didn't the Xbox version only get 4 players max online while the PC version gets 6 and soon to be 8 when the World Builder is released. I'm guessing it will be the same. Anyway I'm glad that they are announcing this soon, i wasn't expecting to hear anything for atleast a year :P
Lars @ Nov 4th 2008 2:37PM
I'll hold out until K&M support is confirmed. I'll definitely snag it if it is. I don't mind waiting since I've got so much other stuff to play.
Jared @ Nov 4th 2008 2:37PM
"But let's hope that the devs at EA don't forget an oft-forgotten PS3 feature: the ability to plug in a mouse and keyboard."
YES YES YES! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!
Rock @ Nov 4th 2008 5:46PM
If mouse and keyboard are supported, its a must buy for me.
More then a must but, its an I can't wait buy!
vanquish @ Nov 4th 2008 6:40PM
what are they talking about 1080p?
Blu ray isn't going to increase resolution anyway, and most 360 games run in higher resolution than their ps3 counterparts (eg GTA4).
If the PC version fits on a DVD, there is no reason why the PS3 version needs Blu Ray, (apart from having 1080p FMV's perhaps)
It's only a RTS, it's not going to have thousands of hi res textures or anything, that needs 50 GB of space.
Dan Rabot @ Nov 5th 2008 7:44AM
How do 360 games run at a higher res than PS3? They are both High def devices, which run at upto 1080 right?
Only difference is that PS3 comes high def ready, microshaft charges you extra for cables / adaptors or whatever.
This will be an area of change as games get too big for DVD's and are developed on PS3 for port to Xbox. Give it a year and they won't be able to fit the good games onto an Xbox disc.
gillyy0 @ Nov 4th 2008 7:57PM
Playing with mouse and keyboard would be sick on the PS3.
Also it's nice that they resumed this game, I was disappointed when they said they canceled it.
Barnolde @ Nov 4th 2008 8:37PM
1080p? Nice to see EA making an effort.
Now give us keyboard & mouse or I won't touch this game!
1664 @ Nov 5th 2008 7:50AM
Shame they couldnt have got a ps3 team together to make the game at same time as the other versions, but still, id rather wait a littlle longer if there gonna take a bit more time and effort on our version than they would have
